Excellent add on but I keep getting the following prompt:Sorry, Switchy is not able to detech the path for the firefox executable file.If you know it, please, write it here:What should I write? Anyway I've switched an older version and it works. Windows Xp and I had trouble with 0.8.
EDIT: with the new FF, there is 0 solution to manage profiles!
Good. But the ability to change the profile icon, I don't like the way it is shown, (with only the first letters and the same default icon) and to change the profile path (very important because I use portable software) is lacking in comparaison with other profiles related addons..
I like what I see with the addon, but as already reported, it presently (2015.02.14) messes with the Menu in Firefox 36. Instead of the Menu dropping down fully, only a minor part of it displays. Quick as I disabled Switchy (thanks for making it restartless!), the Menu displayed normally again. *apologies if i overlooked a report location preference other than here*
Switchy works like a charm on Mac OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion. I use it mostly to quickly switch to one of my many profiles and then go back to the main profile. No need to quit Firefox.
Unlike MultiFox, Switchy works great with my existing profiles. No need for numbered profiles in MultiFox.
On a Mac, you get an icon on a dock for every profile you open simultaneously. I consider this as an added bonus. In order to get out of the profile, you simply switch to the appropriate window and use the Exit command either from the menu or with the Command-Q. The extra dock icons will disappear. Each profile is a completely separate process. I am assuming, that in case of a crash of a single profile, others will continue running. I have not tested it yet.
The autodetection of the Firefox binary did not work for me so I just typed the usual place where Firefox sticks its binary: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox
I especially appreciate the fact that it works with nonstandard firefox variants like Pale Moon because it doesn't assume the executable is called "firefox.exe" the way ProfileSwitcher does.
But now every time I run with my default profile (whether I run it via Switchy or not), it opens a particular banking site that I've used in the past! This is not my home page or anything like that. The only way to prevent this behavior is to disable Switchy (which wouldn't be so bad if it were restartless).
Aside from that, I wish Switchy had the same feature as ProfileSwitcher where it can optionally leave the existing profile open and *simultaneously* run a second profile in a separate window. I believe in effect this is like using the -no-remote flag which enables one to do the same manually.
I'd give it a another star if it weren't for the strange site opening behavior, and a full 5 stars if it could also open multiple profiles at once like ProfileSwitcher.
(BTW, Suggestion: provide a way to submit bug reports outside of these reviews; then people can add a review *after* you've addressed their bug report and they're more likely to give you a better rating.)
BTW, this add-on is in my collection "recommended security & privacy add-ons that are minimally-invasive" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collections/dabruro/security/
Perfectly easy profile managing in tab. Makes profilecreation/managing quite relaxing. Design somehow extraordinary...not bad at all though+ soft on ones eyes. One of my favorite extension ever! THX Baku
Well, not so bad, the description is of little help about the "exclusive" features (assigning websites... that is it? bookmarking? give me some technical bg *before* install it). It have some problems: the default profile is mislabel as the current profile in the toolbar button, and the UI definitely needs tuning yet: In "Profiles", listing 4 profiles use the whole screen for me, needing to scroll for to see the button on bottom.
It sure sounded like a good idea so I gave it a try. Anything that would improve profile management and make it easier sure would help. However, when I start it up it appears to be utterly broken. Here is an exact screenshot of what appears: http://limepic.com/?v=switchy.png If the developer can fix it who knows? Maybe it can become a valuable tool.
It is great that a developer finally brought some type of profile manager extension back to Firefox, but this one needs A LOT of work. For example, there are weird symbols in the toolbar icon options, that look really bad. The icon itself is too big and terrible looking. There is no option to remove or rename a profile, but rather just to add one. There are many other things missing. In general, the profile synchronization extension from years ago set the bar high in terms of profile managers and this one isn't even in the ballpark yet.
Hi Zen. Thanks for your review. I agree with you. For this reason I have worked for a new version: 0.3 (soon online). In these review you can find a lot of your suggestions: a better icon, rename/delete of profiles and a better UI.
