This is an interesting idea but it could have been easier to use. There should have been an input box that could be triggered by a button instead of requiring the user to highlight and the right click.
This add-on makes it much easier to look up potential professors when choosing classes for college. It allows users to right click on a professor's name in the class catalog without having to copy and paste it and then alt + tab to a professor ratings search site. The time saved, athough little, adds up a lot through extended use. The only downside I can see with it is that many professor names are universal across campuses throughout the United States--though this isn't a problem for the Bruinwalk option and UCLA. It might be nice to add an extension to specify your current campus for sites like www.ratemyprofessors.com, if that were possible. That way, you would only get results for your campus, and not have to sift through extra, useless results.
All in all, a very useful tool. Thumbs up!
I love this add-on. It saved me a lot of repetitive key strokes when I tried to look for ratings for professor. However, it would be better if this add-on searches more websites.
Hi, thanks for review! By default when you install the add-on, it only searches at one website. However, you can search up to 3 websites with Professor Ratings. To do this, simply go to Tools-->Add-ons-->Professor Ratings Options. From the options page, you can select all the different settings, such as searching for different websites and determining how you want to open the search page (new tab, new window, etc.)
Super easy to use!
I tried this add-on using Firefox 3.0b3 on WinXP-SP2. It is a good add-on and I find it to be quite useful. The only problem I have with it is that I can only search by one word. For instance, if I highlight "lastname, firstname" my search returns "lastname". Doing a manual search for "lastname, firstname" returns much more accurate results. I suggest implementing the ability to search for strings instead of words. This would yield much more accurate search results and make this add-on far more useful.
Keep up the good work.
