Howto: Fixing NewTabURL
by GGITech on September 23, 2012

Remove NewTabURL
If you have done any of the about:config / browser.newtaburl changes, then undo them.
browser.newtab.url - should be blank
browser.newtabpage.enabled - should be true
Add NewTabURL.
Now the Add-On works as expected, including the "URL from Clipboard"

Thanks for all the kind words. I just installed a fresh copy of FF15 and NewTabURL and it still is not fixed. Funny, I searched, found this thread, and to my amazement, I had already figured it out...glad I posted it as I forgot I fixed it. The best part of this add-on compared to all other solutions is "Open URL from Clipboard, Load only once"

The issue is not with the author, it is with Firefox. They change the about:config code and that is the key piece that broke the add-on. If you perform the simple above steps, it works fine.
I am not sure if the Author could hack the add-on to change those about:config entries on install, probably so, I just have never written an add-on for FF. No matter, it works, and thanks to all of you for the thanks, and even for the translation!

How to Get it Working Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

Like others have said, I use it for a new tab, with Google, and like to start typing in the search box. Now, 5 days after upgrading, I realize that there is a function that has no other solution.
*** URL Copied to the Clipboard ***
I use that maybe 30-40 times a day, copying data from a text only email, or a forum that does not post links, et al.
...Mind you all the above hacks will work to get a new tab to go to a specific site, but none grab a URL that is in Memory on the Clipboard and open it. The option to "only open copied url once" is invaluable also, so I can open the URL then open a new tab and search about that site or information on Google.
.....
I am crippled (well kinda). Truth is, if you take all the Add-On's away from me in Firefox, I'd just move to Chrome.
This is the *only* reason I have stayed with Firefox, the few add-on's that I use on a daily, if not an hourly basis.
