  • Hi. Great addon, but the addressBarBlur function is wrong. She show me default title when I just switch the keyboard layout ("Search Google or History and Bookmarksmy_search_request") or when I try to enter Cyrillic text ("Search Google or History and Bookmarksмой_поисковый_запрос").

    So, after every update I have edit it manually. Glad to announce, that better variant of this function is — addressBarBlur: function(e) {}
  • Hi, this is one great extension but it adds alt+e keyboard shortcut which interferes with Polish keyboard layout (alt+e = ę). It would be awsome if I could change or disable it. Thanks!
I'm glad you like Foobar, and I'm sorry to hear you're having some trouble with your alt+e key combination.

I was able, thanks to a combination of your review and someone else's email to find and fix the problem, and the fix will be in the next release.

    Thanks for using Foobar!

    Firefox 3.7a4pre don't work extention v 1.2
    Thanks Gest -

I may try to set up a virtual machine where I work so I can test Foobar in future versions of Firefox. Until then, I may be a little behind the curve on upcoming FF releases.
  • Good!
but lots of similar add on already existed

To further improve or make differentiation, here's the suggestion

    1) combine with addon "scroll search engine", and let it more user friendly
    https://addons.mozilla.org/zh-TW/firefox/addon/3696

    2) make an option between default search (google) and the search engine used last time

    Thanks and Good job !
Thanks - I'm always willing to hear out and consider suggestions. I've made note of these and will do what I can to include them in my development.

edit: I do support Firefox's build in scrollwheel/keystroke engine changing functionality. It's almost exactly like the plugin you mention, only you hold the control key down when you scroll and you hold the control key down and press the up or down arrows.

Also, don't forget about per-search engine selection. If the last engine you used was Yahoo! but you've currently got Google selected, all you have to do for your next search is "/y search string" where "/y" is the keyword for the engine (or just the first letters) and "search string" is your search phrase.

    Good Luck!

  • Great!
I love it. I was ready to disable it, given that keywords weren't working, but realized I had version 1.0, and that the problem might have been fixed by reading a comment below by the developer switching to 1.1. And it worked perfect! Now no need to uninstall since keywords are working as they should be. Everything else has been great
That's perfect - I'm glad it's working well for you!
  • Does what it's supposed to do. I've spotted an annoying bug - sometimes the address bar font becomes grey when it shouldn't be. Also sometimes when i click on the address bar the link disappears and i have to switch tabs for it to appear again. http://img243.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=78553_Clipboard01_122_416lo.jpg
    Thank you Nikola -

I have noted the problems and I know exactly what to do to fix them (they're actually related) - and the fix will surely be in the next release, whenever Mozilla gets back to me about Public approval.
  • In version 1.1 stopped working suggestion firefox 3.7a3pre. In previous versions all worked well.
  • Do it is possible to add compatibility for "Organize Search Engines" addon?
I have added it to my list of enhancements - but since I don't know quite how that add-on works, I don't know how long it'll be before I can make Foobar compatible with it.
  • The current functionality is great, and I like it over Omnibar because if there are a lot of awesomebar suggestions from history/bookmarks it only puts a few up and shows search engine suggestions as the rest. A few suggestions/improvements:

    1) This addon kills support for firefox keyword searching (i.e. I had gg as a google keyword, and "gg foobar" now googles gg foobar rather than googling foobar). There should be some way to leave these intact.

    2) The autocomplete menu shows at random times. You mentioned earlier that this was a non-windows issue, but I use windows and I'm seeing it too.
    Thanks Arupman -

I actually finally started seeing the autocomplete menu problems myself on Windows - which allowed me to work what I believe is a fix into the new version, v1.1.

If you don't have that version, please install it. Either way, if it's happening in v1.1, please let me know. You can use the 'E-mail your question' link on Mozilla's Foobar page to email me.

As for the 'keymarks', one other person said they are not working for him anymore - but they work for me! I have code in place that should fix this, if I can manage to reproduce it. Please also let me know if these continue not to work in v1.1 as well.

    Thanks again!
  • Suggestion:

Could you implement a way to scroll through the different search-engines with mousewheel while in adressbar?
Would be a great feature to simplify the searchmethod even more.
    Hi Krolli -

Foobar does that! Just like the old search bar used to, you can hold the control key (probably command key for a Mac) and either press the up and down arrows to scroll through them or you can use the mouse wheel.

    Thanks for using Foobar!
  • Great addon. Brilliant. Just a couple issues, which I hope to see fixed soon.

Previously mentioned, the ctrl+enter, shift+enter, etc. commands do not function correctly now.

Also, to get to the search bar previously, you can do the command ctrl+e. Well, when do this now, it opens new search page in current tab. I had my settings to open results in a new tab. This does not do that anymore, well, correctly.

I hope to see these issues fixed. Otherwise, as said earlier, brilliant.
  • foobar is already an sound-program
  • Excellent work!

    How i can donate iit?
  • This extension is awesome. I've wanted this for ages. Thanks a lot :)
  • I tried one other combo-bar extension before this but abandoned it because it was so slow. In my experience, foobar actually speeds up firefox response to my typing in the url bar. Great job
  • Simple and useful!
  • as long as it keeps working, it's fantastic.
i thought about this for a long time, so i'm glad someone made it.
  • A very good addon. Since it helps me from switching between address bar and search by using tab. works well!
  • love it .. many thanks
  • Nice improvement over the default two tools, address bar and search bar. I intend to use it on all my Firefox installations, which is myriad.
  • Great!
I've tried lots of add-ons trying to combine the search and adress bar, without fuss.
    This one really does it.
