Its a good plugin, but using the newest firefox, we can't use it anymore. what's a secondary option? this plugin came in handy for disable flash on the fly.
still very helpful on hundreds of sites using older webtechnologies.
Are you planning to port to web extensions?
(i won't use FF57 due tue very usefel addons who won't be compatibe for now)
Directly porting the addon to a web extension is impossible, because there is no api for managing plugin states, which kind of makes sense if you consider that flash will be the only remaining plugin.
I wrote down some thoughts on how this might work as a web extension , but I currently don't have any time to implement them.
I don't know if Yahoo does something different or not, but the add on does nothing to stop their auto-playing videos. check https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/carolina-panthers-jacksonville-jaguars-20170824030/ or https://www.yahoo.com/gma/know-hurricane-harvey-nears-landfall-111123905--abc-news-topstories.html
The prupose of this add-on is to disable flash, not block any videos.
The videos on the site you liked aren't even flash videos, but normal html5 videos.
I've read something like from Firefox 55 on, Flash is disabled by default anyway for any website and if possible, HTML5 is used for videos. Is this add-on obsolete now? It was really helpful until now, but I'd be happy too if I can spare an add-on.
Flash will always be in "Ask to activate" mode soon, while you will be able to enable flash permanently for a specific site until the end of 2018.
If this is enough for you, then you don't need this addon. The main purpose of this addon is to hide the fact that you have flash installed from websites, which is not the case with "Ask to activate".
See https://github.com/klemens/ff-flashdisable/issues/12 for a discussion about the future of this addon regarding the move to WebExtensions.
Since Flash is still around and not easy to completely get rid of, this extension is very well though-out and quick to use. Now compatible with Pale Moon, it's an easy 5-star.
Просьба разработчику, было бы хорошо, если бы в плагин можно было бы вносить адреса сайтов, на которых бы Flash автоматически отключался, для анонимности серфинга.
Thank you for your review. Unfortunately I don't speak Russian and the result of a automatic translation wasn't very helpful.
Could you try to translate your suggestion into English, German or Spanish or provide more details, so that the automatic translation becomes clearer?
Automatic translation of the last paragraph:
Не могли бы вы попытаться перевести ваше предложение на английском, немецком или испанском или предоставить более подробную информацию, так что автоматический перевод становится яснее?
your addon is fucking cool and i love it ......sorry dude!!!
5 big stars for flashdisable and for master klemens schölhorn ;)
Thanks for the clarification, as I was rather confused by that review. ;-)
Then this project and others like it could continue being developed!
Perfect solution to my need to be able to turn Flash on and off.
Thank you very much!
i think the best one! thx
add rule persite ( auto disable flash when i visit certain website , auto enable flash again if i visit another website)
You can disable flash for certain websites while keeping it enabled for all others by disabling flash explicitly in the permission settings of this site: Right click the website -> "View Page Info" -> tab "Permissions" under "Activate Plugins".
The other way round is unfortunately not possible. A similar setting that might get close to what you want is to set flash into the "Always ask" mode in about:addons -> "Plugins" and then permanently allow (or disallow) flash for certain websites like described above.
Disabled flash, then deleted the add-on. Flash was still disabled. This one seems to leave a permanent trace on the browser settings even if you delete it.
You are right, the addon does not remember the state of flash when it was installed.
However, the only thing the addon does is use the functions build into firefox to enable and disable plugins. Therefore you can simply reenable flash in the Add-ons-Manager (about:addons) in the Plugins tab.
Despite html5 being the default, when websites embed many common flash players they will load flash by default. When flash is disabled, they do html5 (and consume *significantly* fewer resources).
Exactly what I needed and functions perfectly.
FEATURE REQUEST - A way to allow flash on a list of websites, even when the "flash disable" button is enabled. Naturally, I keep flash disabled by default. But a handful of websites (e.g. Hulu) require flash and I would always want it enabled.
That said, I could see this "white-list" undermining the add-ons simplicity.
Thanks for your review!
Unfortunately there is no simple way to implement a globally disabled flash with exceptions for a few websites. (The other way would work, but is of course not very useful)
But you can disable flash right away when the page with the flash content has loaded (and maybe use the option of the add-on to reload the current page when enabling flash). This does not kill the already loaded flash content.
As someone who hates flash, but has to use it occasion, THANKS. this works 100% as expected, and makes it a snap to turn flash on and off at will. I'd give you 6 stars if I could.
good job!!! thanks
I use it for html5 video sites which wrong detect Flash. Just disable Flash with the button then site uses html5 video without a problem. It automatically reloads page on button click for "enable" flash, when configured in addon settings. Just one wish: Also reload page on button click for "disable" flash.
Very well done, flash will slowly fade away no doubt about that, but until then addons like these are a Godsend. As HTML 5 gets more and more popular, I'm sure that we will see similar problems.
It would be nice if you could create an addon which disables the autoplay crap in HTML 5.
Is excelent the unique thing i felt need this FlashDisable , is disable flash per sites
like in Dailymotion when you have HTML5 Player , and if you have FlashPlayer installed , the site try to load the Flash Player version and not the HTML5 Player version ( GNU/Linux )
The rest is excelent and simple .
Just to note all. If you're experiencing any errors or unable to install or update Flash in Firefox, ensure that the FlashDisable is set to the "off" position before attempting to install/update Flash. Or the installer/updater will not install the needed plug in. At least on my setup. This add on has worked very well on my Firefox 39.
Great addon, but could you add an alternative icon? I'm colour blind and it's hard to tell if the icon is activated or not.
Sure, that should be no problem. Do you have any suggestions for alternative icons? Should I use different colors or totally different symbols?
You can also contact me via e-mail if you want.
Can you please reduce the size of the toolbar icon? On FF 37.0.2, it seems to increase the height of the toolbar.
Edit: Thanks for the quick fix. 1.1.1 seems to have fixed the issue.
You are right, this is a bug in firefox versions below 40. I didn't notice this before, because I use my own theme which does not have this problem.
I just uploaded a new version which includes a workaround for this issue: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/flashdisable/versions/1.1.1
I just wanted something to set "ask" and "off" without me going the the motions of the normal way.
At first it seemed like no-one made it! However reading the comments its in his beta! :) yessssssss
I thought I would have to learn how to toggle the about:config "plugin.state.flash" somehow (I suck at coding!)
Can I ask what part of your code actually sets these values? is it the simplePrefs.prefs.xxxxx
Thanks for your review! ;-)
SimplePrefs are the settings of the addon itself, i.e. the three checkboxes in this case. The flash plugin is managed through the PluginStateManager class, see https://github.com/klemens/ff-flashdisable/blob/master/lib/PluginStateManager.js.
If you have any feedback regarding the beta, don't hesitate to write me an email!
Simple and effective, but here's another one who thinks that switching to "ask to activate" instead of "always activate" would be much better. This add-on combined with the "clicktoplay per-element" would be MUST HAVE.
I just released a new beta that supports the 'Ask to Activate' feature. You can install it by switching to the 'Development Channel' on the bottom of the addon page.
If you have any feedback of find some bugs, please open in issue at the github repo or contact me via email. Thanks!
