Please change the name of the default Files or put all together in a unique folder named "firefile", because i replaced my config.php by your config.php. Thats not professional!:
config.php -> config_firefile.php
style1.php -> style1_firefile.php
Are there more files?
Hi copic210, firefile.php is meant to be placed in a subfolder "firefile". But thanks for the feedback, i'll add it to the documentation.
Conflicts with Firebug 1.8 (no css-values)
Great Plugin! Yeah! ... but ...
What's the right mode of preserve the comments?
* If Filefire -> Display CSS comments is disabled, they disappear.
* Is is enabled, the file is duplicate. The first part whithout comments and next the correct text append.
(in joomla ... template.css
Original -> 39.476 bytes,
corrected - No Display CSS comments -> 35.674 bytes,
corrected - Yes Display CSS comments -> 74.953 bytes )
The special tags disappear too.
I write sone CSS3 tags like:
border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
-ms-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
-moz-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
-webkit-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
-khtml-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
When I save only appear the firefox's tag:
-moz-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
I think that do not understand it (Commnets, tags unknows, ..) should be left 'as is', Not? ;-)
Very, very good plugin! ... but ... take with care!
Hello, i´m working with drupal,
and the firelife can´t change the css files, because it says like "cant save file (permission?)"
What does et mean?
Does not save comments and replaces @font-face rule with 'undefined'.
But otherwise great!
Great plugin! It works perfect! I was wishing for this plugin long time and when I found that it really works I automatically go to donate author. You should too guys!
I have been using Firefile for a few days now and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite Firefox extension.
It is still a little rough around the edges and could do with a number of important features but it has loads of potential. I really hope development continues on this extension.
By the way I made a $5 contribution in the hope that you continue to develop this plugin.
This may be the single most important add on for firefox after firebug.
Only that it is not ready yet, it totally broke my css.
What I would love to see is a merge of this and firediff (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firediff/) - firediff is great because it track specific line changes to your css and gives you a diff format output, the only thing it misses is the apply button which this add-ons perfectly provides.
I don't know how realistic is that but what I'm saying is don't try to reformat the whole style sheet and just apply the changes to the changed lines.
Good luck anyway.
FireFile is a great plugin which will certainly make me save lots of time in the near future.
However I have a few suggestions in order to enhance the "Compress CSS" options :
- strip the quotation marks in the background-image declarations. They're useless, yet FireFile adds some even when there were none before the CSS get compressed ;
- create an option to preserve line-breaks after the closing curly braces ;
- create an option to preserve CSS comments : in a team of a dozen front-end developers, using comments in CSS are really helpful.
Many thanks for your work, Tobias !
Firefile has lots of potential but I don't think it's currently a fully working solution. Especially if you want to edit the CSS file of a WordPress site.
The main issue with using it on a WordPress site is it's going to strip your stylesheet header and your theme isn't goiing to work after that.
For any site there is a good chance it's going to strip all your comments.
Another thing it's going to do which can really mess with your stylesheet is strip all your !important declarations.
So use with care!
You can set an option to make FireFile keep css comments.
The !important issue is fixed in version 0.8.6 (firefile.strebitzer.at)
What a beautifull stuff. You can not open a webpage in your desktop editor, because it is created in the server. But now. You can customise, and live preview your CSS and upload it instantly to your server, and changes became live inmediatelly. Love it!!! Thanks guys, one of the best web editing experience. Editing Joomla or Wordpress is a pice of cake. Config was a little unusal but thats acceptable.
After a long term of trying, uninstalling and installing again I found a combination, which works well:
For me it works only with Firebug (V 1.5.4) and FireFile (V 0.8.2).
Latest Versions of both didn't work.
Thanks for this great tool.
Doesn't work for me, although not for lack of attempting to figure out why.
Please provide more information on what is not working (email to email@example.com)
It's a damn nice try, but unfortenately it doesn't work too well in a real-life enviroment. It works on computed CSS, which means it strips your CSS-file for comments, and non-Firefox spesific CSS (-webkit-prefixed rules etc). If there had been a way to have it return the altered original CSS-file (like webdeveloper-toolbar does) the result would've been completely different. I'm hoping for an update! :)
There were some updates already addressing these things, please update to firefile 0.8.6 (firefile.strebitzer.at)
Nice try but makes too many CSS changes, I only want it to change the line of CSS I specify.
This Firebug extension has immense potential. I just wonder: Is it possible to make a button that discharges any changes you have done? The current situation is that it's very easy to upload changes that you didn't intend to upload. To reset you'll have to restart your browser, which is very inconvenient. Also a solution to the missing green arrow problem would be much appreciated.
Version 0.8.6 re-enables the "cancel changes" feature. When reloading a page, firefile will dismiss the changes made.
Thank you for this awesome app - found it very useful when working on any php based site.
It could be that I missed a setting somewhere, but when this updates CSS, any references to non-Firefox code are stripped from the file. In fact, it looks like the entire code for any particular element/selector that is modified with this plugin completely overwrites what was previously there. The issue is that for those of us who code with -webkit and CSS3 standardized (hopefully) code, end up losing all of the code not recognized (rendered) by Firefox. If I'm missing something in configurtion, please let me know. If this issue can be addressed, this would indeed be a spectacular plugin.
Any plans to make this work with a local dev environment? All my stuff I could simply define a local path to save instead of worrying about installing server side stuff.
I make a simple .net implementation of firefile.php you can find it here :http://www.yilmazyavuz.com/yyblog/wp-content/uploads/FireFileAspx.rar
Also many thanks for author, very nice job.
same problem , i am able to save changes, no Firefile settings window, no green down arrow, pls. HELP!!!!
Followed screenshot guide exactly, but on page 6 it shows a window coming up called "firefile settings" this does not come up for me. Has anyone else experienced this? I have adjusted firefox settings to allow pop ups, but still doesnt appear.
I also do not seem to be able to download changes to another site, but this may require that settings window. I have no green down arrow. I am able to save changes to the css on my server, however.
Bimf I sent you an email about this issue yesterday, in case you need my email address. thanks.
