Painfully Slow Bewertet mit 2 von 5 Sternen

I have to agree with gringinho. Attempting to use Firebug 1.4.2 with Firefox 3.5.2 is a truly awful experience. Page loading is extremely slow and oftentimes causes my entire machine to lock up for 10 to 15 seconds. I'm not sure whether to blame this on Firefox 3.5, Firebug 1.4 or a combination of the two but with older versions of the both you could leave Firebug open while surfing from page to page and not even notice a performance hit.

I love Firebug but as gringinho said, it's almost unusable as things stand.

Very useful tool for the advanced developer, if you are willing to take the time to learn how to use it fully.
For my own needs I required something simpler, but there is no doubt that those developers who make the effort will find this tool invaluable in the longer term.

This is an amazing add-on. This really helped me quickly test out new CSS styles without the hassle of editing, uploading and reloading my pages.

I would recommend this to anyone who runs a website.

This has to be my favorite add-on. Honestly, I like it more than Firefox itself (sorry Mozilla). Firebug is a very detailed add-on. It has everything you need... well, almost. It could definitely use a one-line statement evaluator, similar to what Execute JS does (except in a single line on the status bar), but you can easily supplement Firebug with Execute JS until the developer figures out how great that would be.

Every update gets better, and I don't think there's another add-on in all of the add-ons arsenal that receives as much detail oriented attention as Firebug. One of the best features is the Inspect Elements Overlay, that is perfectly integrated into the HTML console. You can easily find an item in the code by clicking the inspect element button, and then hovering over then element.

As you become more an more familiar with Firebug, you begin to see that this add-on is far more powerful than you first imagine. Edit live HTML. Edit CSS on the sideline like in Dreamweaver or as a stylesheet. View the DOM as an actual tree. Pause and break script or watch expressions to see their output. Measure network data. Find script as it fires. Toggle viewing of Whitespace, comments, full text, and more. The list goes on and on.

I couldn't do without this add-on. Supplement it with Execute JS and Console² (Console Squared if that didn't come out) and the Web Developer Toolbar, and you'll have everything you need to develop, test, and modify with ease.

Absolutely the most indispensable add-on if you're doing web development. I require this for debugging my JavaScript and monitor AJAX calls as well as inspecting the DOM.

My newest best friend Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Firebug was recommended to me for its strengths as a Javascript debugger. As it turns out it has an awesome (!!!) CSS/DOM inspector/debugger/editor: For any given DOM element (and you can select DOM elements by clicking on them), I can see which styles are being applied, which styles are overridden, and then edit and/or disable/enable them all in real-time.

Not only that, but it also has an incredibly useful network connection profiler: how long it takes to connect and download all the content in a page.

I still haven't touched the Javascript debugger and I'm already in love with it!

I think the version 1.3.3 is better, the new version 1.4.2 uses a lot of memory, run quite slow and appears to have a lot of bugs. And I see that there is a lot of people got the same problems like me. Just need to make a stress out

I'm waiting for the new version 1.5, can't live without Firebug....

Es una de las extensiones más útiles para los desarrolladores que pretenden hacer las cosas bien, y aún más útil para los consultores y auditores en la tarea de revisión de los sitios web.

Using Firebug 1.4.2 with Firefox 3.5.2 on Linux Debian with 2.6.30 kernel ...

When starting up Firefox with this extension, the pages take quite a bit longer to load, and the memory usage goes up through the roof - not to mention the CPU usage - and then it settles down to one third (!!!!) of the memory usage.

This is the best web-development debugger out there ... but it's not usable to have it enabled in daily browsing any longer ... and that is a damn shame.

Of course I will be using it still, but only enable it when it's actually needed - and doing that by running it with another user for any specific page I will be working on. That way it won't hamper my daily usage with Firefox.

The Web Developer 1.1.8 extension works just fine, and does not add more than roughly 20MB of extra memory usage when starting up roughly 100 tabs spread on 4 windows. Firebug adds roughly 100MB when enabled. The Firefox instance runs at around 610MB with Firebug enabled ...

However - when starting up Firefox with Firebug enabled - it goes up to 1200-1500MB - then settles down to 610MB. That is just sick - and the CPU usage is just as awful during startup and page loading ...

Ironically some addons.mozilla.org pages time out when loading because of the extra strain that Firebug causes during startup. I thought that Firebug was disabled by default on all pages ... but there is definitely something very fishy with the way Firebug works nowadays.

Hope they fix this issue soon, as it is seriously undermining the usage of Firefox as it stands now.

What happened? Bewertet mit 2 von 5 Sternen

The Firefox 3.1 compatible version of Firebug was brilliant, 5 stars definitely.
But this latest version for FF 3.5 is rubbish!
Why?
Because you can't edit live any more.
Want to change 10px to 20px in the CSS panel and watch it happen live? well now you can't!
Want to adjust margin, padding or anything in CSS and see it instantly? sorry , not happening.

Firebug was arguably the best add on but now it is completely useless!
Please sort this out I beg of you.

Regards,
John

Didn't like this release. Too buggy. Doesn't do what I expect it to do.
I'll stay with firebug 1.3.3
