  • Great! Can you update for FF22 please?
  • Long time I have been looking for such a function. Installed it on FF16 and it runs with endless other add-ons without any problems. Of course you have to increase the allowed FF version. But just look in other comments how to do it.

Hope the developers will come back and activate this add-on again by changing the allowed FF version. But until then it is easy to do it yourself.
  • ..if it:
    - searches in all windows
    - searchers in titles
  • Five stars it would definitely be, if only it didn't waste so much space without recovery. Don't even think to make the result list longer. It will stay to that length for ever and ever, and you'll have to live with it until you create a new profile!
  • I was heartbroken when this stopped working in Firefox 3.6 or 4 (don't remember). As the previous reviewer said, it's now just a matter of updating the max version in the install.rdf file. I have uploaded a new version here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/371872/find_in_tabs-
This is identical with except the max number is set to 20.*.*
If you don't trust xpi files from a stranger ;) here's how to do it yourself:
    1) Unzip the .xpi file with a file compression software. Don't know how? Just rename the extension to .zip and click on it.
    2) Open install.rdf in a text editor (like Notepad). If you don't know how to do it, change the extension .xpi to .txt and double-click on the renamed file.
    3) Go to the line that says "3.5.*" and change it to a higher version as needed (my version is 20.*.*, but of course it must at least be the version you're currently using). Close and don't forget to save. If you renamed the file to install.txt, change it back to install.rdf.
    4) Re-zip all unzipped files and save as .xpi (or rename from .zip to .xpi after saving, if you changed the extension).
    5) In Add-ons manager, click on the "cogwheel" icon next to the search field and select "install from file".

I wonder why Mozilla continues to treat this wonderful add-on as "dead." To anyone who can, feel free to upload my unofficial update to addons.mozilla.org.
  • There is no updated version of this addon at the web address the previous reviewer listed. I unzipped the XPI package and updated the max version to 13.0.1 in the install.rdf text file and it is working great for me.
  • Спасибо большое NC, который выложил ссылку на Find In Tabs комментарием ниже! Скачал, установил - всё работает.
Внимание, кто будет качать - загрузку можно произвести только в определённое время - с 7 до 9 утра по среднеевропейскому.
  • This extension is really great, please update it for Firefox 13!
  • Neither any other browser functions this. This is really great. My problem is I am not updating firefox from 3.5 version.
  • I scrolled the 'find' up by half a page, Now it isnt going Down!!
    What to do??

So now, when I click Find on tabs, the addon bar moves up taking 70% of the page
  • Nice! I always needed something like this.
  • Nice and speedy addon and does work on FF6 if you have addon compatibility addon installed.

But surprisingly it sometimes misses some matches - try searching for 'manual' on the all-in-one Emacs manual page (html_mono), FIT reports 121 matches while there should be 140.

There are other less critical issues too, but overall it's well designed.
  • I'm using firefox 6.0 and this add-on is marked as incompatible. Any update soon ?
  • If this addon dead? Can you update it to Fx 8.0?
  • Please update it for firefox 4!!
  • I absolutely love this add-on but as it is on the site now, it will not work with Firefox 3.6.

However, I've found a way to get it to work (I'm using Firefox 3.6.15).

First, have the MR Tech Toolkit extension installed. Then you'll need 7-zip.

Save the XPI file from here to your computer. Open the XPI file in 7-zip (right click, 7-zip, open archive). Navigate into the directories defaults, preferences, find prefs.js, right click, edit (mine opens up in Notepad).

Find "checkcompatability" and change the "true" after it to "false." Then File, Save, File, Exit.

7-zip will say a file was modified and ask you "Do you want to update it in the archive". Click OK. Close 7-zip. Then open the XPI file in Firefox (File, Open file is one way) and click override maxcompatibility checking. Then install.

(Although I still get blank space if I try to drag the top window of the find results down.)
  • Great, useful functionality. Works as intended.

I'm surprised Firefox doesn't support this capability natively.
  • It does what it promises ;) It saves my time also
  • Wawuschel version works fine!
@Svobodniy: Plz tell what's wrong with Wawuschel's version! Why is it a fake?

  • I love this addon. I had to revert to Firefox 3.5 just to get it. I re-installed over my newer version and it works great!
  • I love/need this, but it needs to be updated for 3.6.9 already, Please!
  • Please up to 3.6.8 !
    @smayer97 thx!
  • This add-on is very useful to find information on web sites that are too often changed to be reliably searched using google or yahoo. Or you can open search results in tabs and then close all the tabs with wrong words (starting with the highest tab number).
Find in Tabs is the reason why I now switched back to Firefox 3.5.11, because as smayer97 and petrus3 pointed out, it is useable in 3.6.x (3.6.7), but one thing did not work correctly:
When Find in Tabs results were open, they always used at least half of my screen (1400 x 1050), moving down the split line just gave a gray area instead of the web site. It would be great if this small error could be resolved by the developers.
