It is disabled by default by Firefox in nightly builds as it is not multiprocess compatible. Please consider upgrading it.
I was very excited to try Change Search Shortcut as a new replacement for my trusty and well used SearchHotKeys add-on (which works perfect;y, but is old and therefore not signed or verified).
However, no matter what I tried, I could not get Change Search Shortcut to work. I've tried setting various different key combinations (restarting the browser each time) but nothing happens when I press my chosen hotkey. The default hotkey combination still works fine.
It's a shame, because I don't know how much longer unsigned add-on will be permitted in Firefox, so I'm looking for a functional replacement for SearchHotKeys.
Shifting from CTRL+F to something more convenient for me, like CTRL+G is truly groundbreaking.
A useful little plugin. Thanks!
Works perfectly for me. Gets the job done with no configuration needed, though configuration is available if you want to change Ctrl-E to something else. Latest version keeps Ctrl-K in place while adding Ctrl-E as an additional option. Ctrl-E can be configured to anything you want using the well-written instructions provided. No, I don't work for the provider, just a pleased user. Thank you.
thank you for this addon. hope, mozilla developers fix this issue in the future releases...
Simple but awesome addon. I hate when new versions of a software change/remove shortcuts, it made me hate IE4-7 (at least the German version changed the address bar shortcut in every version)
Very helpful so far.
Thanks for making this extension. I've always thought that it was an oversight that Ctrl+E didn't work on Mac or Linux, but now Ctrl+E doesn't even work on Windows. I've been using Firefox since it was called Phoenix, but this might be the breaking point. I have no idea how Ctrl+E has come to be removed despite being the standard on Windows and being supported by every other browser. I seriously have no idea what are the benefits of removing it. It's just mind boggling.
Hopefully the Mozilla developers will make this add-on unnecessary by fixing the Ctrl+E search shortcut key to function as documented in the Firefox shortcut key list. Until then, thanks for providing this fix!
I hated Panorama from the moment it appeared, thanks for the fix.
THANK YOU! Seriously! Thank you so much for making this! I registered today just so I could say that!! I can't believe Mozilla would eliminate the ctrl + E shortcut after so many years of it being the standard way to access the search bar!!!
Thank you for creating this!
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
Why did Mozilla remove this long-standing shortcut? Who the hell knows. Thank god for this plugin.
Thanks for this! Extension works in the final release of FF4 as well.
Thank GOD for this add-on! Installed on Firefox 4 RC2, I have been waiting a long time for this. Mozilla you guys are idiots for not giving us this shortcut back.
Thanks very much!!
It works on my firefox 4 RC1 ~~
It's really quite silly that the Firefox team decided to allow Panorama to steal the Ctrl+E hotkey. At least they finally did unbind it from Panorama for Firefox 4 RC1. But now that it's unbound, why not set it back to search? Why did they let Panorama have it in the first place :(
Oh well, looks like I'll be using your extension on all my Firefox installations. Thanks for making it!
Thanks for bringing sanity back to my life so I can use Ctrl-E for searches once again.
