  • Useless

  • and clearly not being maintained

  • Works like a champ on OS X Firefox v36.0. Cheers for sharing Tibor.

  • not working with firefox 19

  • Completely useless. No bulp or other button or option after right-clicking appears. Can't get it to work. Uninstalled immediately.

  • Installed this because I have trouble seeing webpages even with the brightness of my computer down at the absolute minimum level. Installed fine, but can't get it to work at all.
Yeah, can't find any "bulb" icon, and since apparently it'll only work if there actually is one, there's no point in me keeping this installed.
Great idea, and I'm sure in previous versions it worked really well - but the fact is that it hasn't been updated in a while and that seems to be a big issue here, as it's not compatible with the most recent version of firefox.
If updated, I may try it again.

  • I haven't updated to the latest version of Firefox and still using 3.6.x just because of this add-on! Could someone help update it? I think it is no longer maintained.

  • Fantastic add-on. Please add support for newer FF versions!

  • I'm a next one to beg you to make it work with new Firefox :)

  • yes...make it for Firefox 5.0.i like black color:-)

  • Please modify this for 5.0, ...I have been looking for something like this FOREVER - my eyes are far too light-sensitive to be looking at a glaring white screen with little squiggly black-lines pretending to be a legible font.

  • Very impressive!
This is easily the best add-on available.
    5 star ..all the way.
The only thing that could improve it, would be to have an exclusion list as some of the other users have already stated.

  • Great addon. Only problem can't move the toolbar button. Please make it moveable. thank you

  • By far, one of the most useful add-ons I've downloaded. Been looking everywhere for a add-on that functions like "Blackout" but couldnt find one. It makes reading and viewing videos a lot easier when eyes begin to get tired. Great job!

  • Update?

  • Thats what i need! Thank you!

Small bug - colors are not overrided if marked in css as !important.

Also it would be great to
    - override border-color
    - option to apply Blackout not to current page only, but to entire tab (apply Blackout to navigated pages too)

    And absolutely fantastic if
    - make all images grayscale (or optionally show/hide) - i dont know whether its possible
    - checkbox near each color 'make grayscale' - to make color not fixed, but gray(originalColor)

    And, maeby, multiple custom presets.

  • Blackout RULES! No more white google searches, no more white facebook. Works great. I love the colors. Thank you tibor.

  • I LOVE THIS!
I usually browse the internet at night time, in a low light room, and this is EXACTLY what I was looking for.
It's already had a noticeable effect on how irritated my eyes feel. (even though it's still good to take breaks.lol)

A suggestion though: For the "Stay in the dark" mode, it might be nice to add an "exclusion list" somewhere in the options. This is because the same people who are likely to use Blackout, are also likely to use Greasemonkey/Stylish scripts, on their favorite webpages, to darken them or otherwise alter the themes/layouts. And pages altered by those addons, look horrible with Blackout. A simple exclusion list for the "Stay in the dark" mode would solve this. That way people can keep their favorite themes on their preferred sites, but STILL default to a generic dark Blackout theme, everywhere else.
Of course, I might be thinking redundantly, and others might not need this at all. lol

Still very AWESOME addon! Thanks for it! Keep up the good work!

  • Great idea
Questa estensione è favolosa! spero che lo sviluppatore riesca a valicare i limiti del cambio di layout :)

  • Very nice program! I've been using Stylish, but Blackout is much more streamlined, plus I don't have to mess around with coding every time I want to change how a page renders.

I do have 3 suggestions to improve what's already pretty good:
    1) Give us 2 custom settings, not just one, for quick switching between our preferred setups
    2) Allow the Blackout button to be moved to the status bar or be kept by the address bar
    3) Allow us to pick different colors for already-clicked-on links versus not-yet-clicked-on links. (Ideally I'd also like to be able to make clicked links italicized or bold)

    Thanks again for Blackout!

  • Great little program. I've been using Stylish, but Blackout is more streamlined and lighter so I'm switching. In Blackout its easier to switch schemes or disable the scheme if a particular page is being difficult. And you don't have to open up the addon menu every time you want to change schemes!

    3) Give us the option to have one color for un-clicked links and another color for clicked links. (Ideally I'd also like to be able to make clicked links italicized or bold)

Thanks a lot, and thanks for Blackout!

  • This really is a great addon, as an across-the-board solution for any site you visit has been (sorely) needed for some time. It surprised me how well it worked, really. For working anywhere it is effective without breaking too much on most sites I visit. Some elements of some sites will stubbornly have odd color schemes that might clash with your picked theme now and then.

So it's 90% good for most applications*, minus the occasional missed button or whatever. Easy to disable for a moment, though.

Overall, excited that I can read without my eyes burning. Many thanks.

*This comment kept being rejected as having errors in the form. As it turned out, my blackout setting of #000000 background made the rating markers invisible. Guess that's why it isn't in the default color themes as a choice.

  • I've been waiting for something like this! Thanks for the wonderful addon!
