This is a useful tool--although I also recommend max cookie manager. http://www.maxa-tools.com/cookiedown.php?lang=en between this tool plus maxa I was able to delete all cookies (at least maxa made it appear that there were some cookies which this plugin did not get). The maxa lite is free--

Anyway, I'm giving 5 stars, this is a useful tool--kudos for taking notice of super-cookies and flash cookies and helping the public do something about it!

Version 1.44 Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Version 1.44 is very stable on FF 3.54 & Windows XP SP3.
For the developer : Could you consider to delete also the AssetCache folder in ?
Great addon.

1.23 experimental Bewertet mit 2 von 5 Sternen

v1.23 immediately deleted many stored objects when installed. I expected it to ask first, and maybe even show them.

Then once auto-delete is disabled, it warns about new objects on every new window and when bp options opened. This happens even when there are no new objects since the last warning. And I couldn't find an option to disable the warnings.

Nice effort, but should be marked "experimental" here until user feedback is inorporated.

v1.24 may be better, but I was put off by the netticat home page's "noscript" comments.

You obviously confuse BP with another addon

because BP intentionally is not programmed to warn about every new object. So your review does not match BetterPrivacy. However, you can get the latest version of my addon on my homepage (which asks once to configure deletion). Required are only an up-to-date browser with default settings, of course with the standard javascript supported (e.g. Firefox).

I think I get it Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

It took a while to understand exactly what was being deleted by this addon and what privacy issues were being addressed. Then I had an "Oh Yeah!" moment. I, too, delete my Internet Tracks from within the browser and from within products that help me maintain my system; then I go back to the places (the ones I know of anyway) where things are stored and never deleted. (i.e. flash objects, temporary data)

If I am mistaken I believe this module makes it easy to clean up those areas where those flash objects and global settings are stored. And that is a good thing. There are objects from sites we visited and from sites I assume simply collect data.

I can only thank those people who take there time to make a tool that makes a hard job easier... namely preserving what little privacy we have left.

With version 1.24 from Netticats homepage the previous lacks of the addon seem to be fixed.
Thanks for the update, please make it available here too.

I have a useful flash cookie needed to store some game information. There does not seem to be a way to keep that cookie always or did I miss something?

Works good for me. I love to view YouTube videos, but I hate to be tracked by this evil sort of cookies. Now YouTube makes even more fun.

Could you make it behave like a ordinary cookie add-on, like a icon in the statusbar where you can choose per site if you want BetterPrivacy to delete the sites supercookies on start

To the developer:
Of course everyone should read what he installs, but you claim your add-on is targeted at unexperienced users. So you chose extremely lame line of defense against my accusation of preparing add-on that could easily break things for the said unexperienced user. That's one thing. And the second issue is you didn't address my main objection - that LSOs are sometimes useful and should be kept. Not for some delayed period managed globally, but on per-site basis. Your statement about "delayed deletion" feature shows you completely miss the point here and you don't even understand why your plugin is bad. And your "crime" is much bigger, because of your target, because the said unexperienced user is not warned he may lose valuable data by installing your plugin and that he will also lose some funcionalities on flash pages he will visit later on. Experienced user knows what he do and how to deal with such issues, but your "helpful" plugin may terribly mess up things for beginners you claim you care of.

Dangerous for unexperienced users Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

Very bad plugin. First of all, some flash cookies are good, exactly as regular cookies. E.g. flash games often store settings, saved games and high scores in flash cookies. So using this plugin means you will never again be able to save current game. Threfore, such plugin should include a mechanism to permit cookies by site (just like no-script does, for example).

But what is even worse, this add-on deletes all your flash cookies on first start, without asking! And that is totally wrong. So if you thought you will be able to use reject/permit system you will be double dissapointed, because when you notice you were wrong, you also already lost all your cookies. I would suggest the developer to carefully rethinh his idea.

Nonsense,

because if you could read, you would have known how the addon behaves: "...by silently removing those cookies on every browser start".
Also it was clearly said that "Better Privacy serves to protect against undeletable long-term cookies", meaning that it does not allow any storage over longer periods.
However, advanced delayed deletion can be configured as exclusive method.
Installing addons without carefully reading the description can be disappointing in any case.

Prevent autostart Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

There is a way to prevent the "delete on first start". It is a crude fix, but it worked for me...
1. Right click the download button
2. Save "betterprivacy-1.23-fx.xpi.
3. Rename the file (change extension) from "xpi" to "rar"
4. extract the file "bpprefs.js" from "defaults\preferences"
5. Replace the "true" with a "false" on line 3 (the "AutoDelLSO" setting)
6. Replace the old file in the rar with the new one.
7. Rename the archive from "rar" to "xpi"
8. Drag and drop the file to the address bar in firefox (where you normally type www.....)
9. press [Enter]
10. Firefox will ask you if you want to install

Would be better if the author correct this and update...
Other than this minor mistake, this add-on is excellent!

Default start after install Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

Installed and restarted to find it already had deleted 2 items and no description of what exactly was deleted.... this strikes me as non-user friendly. It appears the default settings assume that you want to lose your ability to recover if the default settings find anything.

I would prefer an alternate method that scans, presents items and lets you choose the items to deleted. Frankly there is no possibility to recover unless you have a directory backup. Other than that it seems to address the flashcookie tracking loophole as intended.

Thanks to the Author. This is a great Add-On and it is at the time the easiest way to handle Flash-Cookies and the DOM-Storage. Please continue developing - the free world needs tools like this!

Eats bookmarks. Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

If you value your bookmarks, don't let this thing near your computer. It simply gobbles them after a few uses, and like the other reviewer said, you can't delete the empty shells. You have to re install Firefox! It's more cumbersome, but you can find these cookies with the windows search. Just plug in *.sol, then you can delete them yourself. At least you'll keep your bookmarks.

Once again I rechecked the code but

there is nothing that could cause such a desaster.
This addon does not even touch the bookmark-system. Whatever caused your troubles, you should try to find out - but you'll find also that BetterPrivacy was not involved.

Good, but troublesome Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternen

BetterPrivacy found those super cookies OK, but I tried to use it after I had it awhile and it froze my system. I had to shut off the power, and when I restarted FireFox, all my long collected bookmarks were gone, just empty folders which I could not even delete. I had to reinstall FireFox to get rid of them! I'll try this extension again, but if that happens again, I'll be quite unhappy.

Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (1.22) abgegeben.

Not caused by this extension!

Please make sure you checked out the real reason for incidents like this. Writing reviews that are based just on assumptions is a bad thing!

For example undeletable folders can be caused by open handles (e.g. running invisible Firefox instance), corrupted data on harddisk or Virus/Rootkit. None of those reasons do apply to BetterPrivacy. Also BetterPrivacy never accesses bookmarks in any way.

When writing reviews you should have a minimum knowledege, meaning you should know how things work in Firefox.

I'm using a Mac and the add-on works great but, now my Youtube account wont recognize me when I log in.What can I do to fix this?

With the latest version

you can protect LSO's or Cookie folders from automatic deletion. See BP's options.
