This add-on was added sometime ago with a Thunderbird update, without prompting me to approve. I mostly ignored it because I have a better calendar that I use. With the latest update of Thunderbird, 45.2b (a beta that installed automatically) the whole thing has gone to crap, and the only solution I could find was to restore TB from a backup from last week and remove Lightning.
Stop giving me crap I didn't ask for without prompting me whether I actually want it.
This only gets one star because there is no option to rate it as zero stars

I have used the software for a while now and I am very happy with it. Please provide an option to store the calendar data in a location selected by user (Thunderbird already has that facility). This will enable the users to save it regularly with other data. C drive is saved infrequently by most people and moving the Tbird profile to another location is too complicated.
This is already possible, although maybe not as easy as it could be. There are two options, one would be to move your whole profile to a different drive, the other would be to use an .ics file instead of the local storage backend. The former would be preferable. Ask in support for details if you need help.

"Show Calendar Week" is no more nessesary with Lightning 4.7 and causes much trouble. E.g. the grid is empty, the menu is disabled (greyed out), etc.
If its possible, the author should deactivate "Show Calendar Week" automaticly, or at least give a warning.

I love TB and Lightning is just perfect. However, now, we are getting into trouble: Lightning 4.7 is working (calendar on the side works and shows the entries, and all calendars are named on the left), but the main window with calendar grid is and stays empty. All buttons on top are grey, so no way to synchronize or do anything else. I de-installed Lightning and re-installed it. But no help even after restart of Thunderbird. This must be urgently taken care of as it is vital for using Thunderbird. Thanks for it!
Thanks to "testbutton", this issue is solved: Unselect "show Calendar Week" in the Calendar menu. It makes the calendars appear.

. update to 45 went ok but I now cannot accept invitations directly from the email. I keep getting "No writable calendars are configured for invitations, please check the calendar properties."
I guess this is in combination with the Provider for Google Calendar? I don't think we changed anything specific in Lightning related to writable calendars and invitations, but we are happy to help out in the support section.

Was an early adopter during the beta-testing years where it was rather flakey and have been very happy with it for years now, especially with the google calendar add-on.
Fedora 23 just automatically updated to thunderbird 45.0 + lightning 4.7 and the calendar tab came up completely broken. Mad panic / googling. Just did a manual install of the lightning 4.7 .xpi and after a restart seems to be back to working aok.

I've relied on Lightning for many years, since it gave me an alternative to Outlook when added to Thunderbird, and I no longer had to parallel my email gathering and calendar maintenance between Seamonkey or the two-window Thunderbird/Sunbird combo (and still have to use Outlook for some endeavours).
With today's update of both Thunderbird and Lightning, that ease (and trust) ended, since Lightning only gives me a grid. Worse, in going back (yes, that's how important my calendar is) to the previous versions of the client and calendar (where both worked together), Lightning does nothing. It won't load. Its button has disappeared, as has its integration into Thunderbird ("settings" gives me only the client's settings, with no Lightning options).
Now I'm left wondering if my calendar database(s) are okay and still usable, should I manager to get a working version of Lightning installed. I may very well go back to paper for time management. It may be old tech, but it has proved consistent and reliable.
This is not a bug report. This is a review of the latest iteration of the extension as I've experienced it. Since I use the app for time management, there is a high lever of trust that it will be there, functional and unglitched.
That trust was broken today. (Even worse, reviews of the newest version posted here were met with admonishments that they were glitch reports. The disappointed user shouldn't be made to feel guilty for posting a bad review of something that doesn't work, based on their honest experience.)

Thanks, this is the kind of review I can understand. What I was trying to say in previous answers is that I believe this isn't at all an issue with Lightning itself, but rather with the Thunderbird update process, and also something that can easily be remedied through support. As you can see, others have posted that the update worked for them without any problems at all.
I am certain your calendar database is still intact and I am sorry the update process is such a pain for you, I am glad we only do major updates every 42 weeks now. Just imagine this kind of thing happening every 6 weeks following the Firefox cycle.
When using Thunderbird 38, make sure you are using Lightning 4.0.x, when using Thunderbird 45 make sure you are using Lightning 4.7. That's about all I can say here, I am happy to help further in the support section.

Updated Thunderbird to 45.0, Updated Lightning to 4.7 even tried 4.7b3 still unable to view events on the calendar, unable to enter new events or new Calendar, totally unusable!!!!!

after having upgraded to TB-45, calendar and tasks are no more visible ; neither in preferences.
What is wrong in the profile, knowing that on the same computer, i have created a new profile where calendar and tasks are OK ?
Please check with support for this issue, or try re-installing Lightning from this site.

The developers reply to "Dumb Thunderbird Update" is, at best, not accurate as of 4-25-16. Thunderbird updated via the automated update apparently does not come with an updated version of Lightning. Nor does the lightning update from here function (it's not allowed - not signed). In order to get a copy of Lightning that functions with Thunderbird 45.0 you apparently have to download the Thunderbird installer and reinstall Thunderbird. IMHO, just plain sloppy!
Update: It is possible that today I did get confused by the similarity in appearance between the add-on pages for Firefox and Thunderbird and attempted to install Lightning in Fiirefox as a response from the developer suggested. But the bottom line still is that it appears automatic updates to Thunderbird are resulting in Lightning disappearing until one or the other is reinstalled. I'm apparently not the only one seeing this phenomenon judging from the reviews I'm seeing. Nor is this the first time Lightning has disappeared on me.
FTR: Ligtning would get a considerably better rating from me if it weren't periodically disappearing.
If you are getting a message that the Lightning update is not allowed because it isn't signed, then you are likely attempting to install Lightning into Firefox. Thunderbird does not require extension signing.
I've checked the Thunderbird update files and they contain Lightning, so it must be something else. I would love to help and fix any potential issues, but I really don't want to spark any discussion here as the reviews are not meant for support issues nor bug reports.

Luckily, a compatible Lightning version is actually shipped with Thunderbird and therefore there should be no compatibility issues at all. Anyway, if you need to reinstall, you can now get the latest version also from addons.mozilla.org

I updated Thunderbird a day or so ago, and now my Lightning Calendar(which is critical to my life) is gone! And there is no new version that will work with T-Bird?? Please help! Was soll ich sagen... die Extension ist ja ganz gut an sich... nur was nutzt das wenn es Erinnerungen verliert? Zum Glück verliert es keine Termine aber das Erinnerungsfenster enthält nicht mehr alle Termine wenn man TB neu startet. Was vielleicht ok wäre wenn es Duplikate wären, obwohl ich auch das nicht haben wöllte, aber es fehlen auch ganz normale Erinnerungen. Termine mit den gleichen Einstellen sind weg, andere sind noch da. Das ist total unbrauchbar damit. Ein Termin bzw seine Erinnerung darf erst verschwinden wenn man ihn erledigt hat. Lightning sollte nicht einfach für mich entscheiden.
Damit hat die Extension einen üblen Nachteil gegenüber anderen Kalenderverwaltungen.

Seit einiger Zeit habe ich Lightning in meinem Linux-Thunderbird installiert. Es erinnert mich an meine Termine und /oder Aufgaben. Aber es ist nicht möglich diese Termine und Aufgaben im Überblick anzusehen. Das war bei meinem TheBat! besser.
Aber hier kann man einstellen, was man will - es geht nicht.
Wirksamen Support gibt es auch nicht außer diesem thunderbird-mail-Forum, wo mein Thread aber immer gelöscht wurde (kaputt?!)
Kennt jemand ein besseres Forum - auch in englischer Sprache kein Problem.

Es gliedert sich gut in Thunderbird ein und ist meiner Meinung nach gut zu bedienen.
Was nervt sind die Fehler wie "Erinnerungen schließen" oder dass Passwörter vom Kalender nicht gespeichert werden. Letzteres hat mich auch zum Downgrade auf Version 18.104.22.168 bewegt. Mit der gibt es keine Probleme beim Syncen der Kalender.
Das tagelange Termine nicht in einem Balken angezeigt werden, ist auch nicht verständlich. Ansonsten eine feine Sache.
EDIT: Passwörter der Kalender werden nicht gespeichert, Weder in Version 22.214.171.124 noch in 4.0.6.
