TooManyTabs - Saves Your Memory

Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

TMT is not fully working with Firefox 30. When clicking on the TMT symbol, or whatever it's called, on the left-hand-side of a tab, nothing happens. Neither single nor double-clicking works anymore, to send a Web page to the TMT bookmarks folder.

This stopped working with Firefox 30 for me. No extensions were added and no add-on configuration changes were made after installation of Firefox 30. So the problem shouldn't be a conflict with other add-ons, for TMT worked, thoroughly, until Firefox 30.

I just created an account in the support forums and posted a more extensive comment about this sudden problem with TMT.

I'll select a 4-star rating, but once this problem is resolved, then consider it a 5-star rating. It's a very handy extension that always previously worked for me. This is the very first time that I've had a problem with TMT.

SmartVideo For YouTube

Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

I installed this add-on over the past couple of hours, let Windows Update perform 12 updates, did a few other things before closing Firefox, restarted Windows, ..., and now I'm back to Firefox. That being done I then wanted to see how playing a YouTube video would be, but first looked over the settings for this SmartVideo For YouTube (SVFY). The settings seem okay, based on what their names are, but the add-on has a problem.

I get a normal YouTube page, except the video player area is completely black and I don't see any control thing, tool or whatever you call it, for this add-on. So I figured it may be necessary to disable the add-on but first went back to the settings and wanted to test only one change at a time. I began by disabling or unselecting the very first option, "Control Videos on YouTube". Then I went back to the YouTube page and reloaded it.

The video automatically begins to play, but I can at least stop it and the video, which is 5:12 for duration, stopped buffering at 0:47. This is something I can put up with, but I'll leave the add-on installed and enabled, simply keeping the "Control Videos on YouTube" option unselected.

That will permit being notified when a corrected version of the add-on is made available and when that notice arrives, then I'll do the update and will test the add-on again with "Control Videos on YouTube" re-enabled.

Given the very nice interface for the settings and the fact that this video has received an average of 4/5 ratings, so far, I'll also give 4.

Lastly, Bang Nguyen, posted a review comment on February 7, 2013, saying that he or she also got only a black area where the YouTube video is supposed to appear. And Bang said that this was with Firefox 18. I have 18.0.2 presently installed.

YouTube Enhancer Plus

Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

Given Maxime RF's very prompt reply and the promising note that it bears, I'll say Thank You to Maxime and will increase my rating to 4.

Regarding what I previously said about the additional features of this add-on, they'll remain of no interest to me, but if this add-on's present problem with continuing to buffer videos when I've selected the option for stopping autoplay gets corrected in the next version of this add-on, then I'll have the add-on still installed and it'll be updated. At that time the add-on will be re-enabled to give it the "stop autoplay" test again.

On a last note, why not change the options. F.e., there could be two options and the second would possibly be activated only if the first one is selected. The first would be for a user to select whether he/she wants to prevent videos from autoplaying. If the person sets the option for stopping autoplay, then the additional option would be to have the user indicate whether or not videos should be buffered. This would permit users to use both of these options according to whatever combination a person prefers. F.e., I'd choose to stop autoplay as well as for there to be NO buffering.

That would leave far more complete control in the hands of each user; for some, perhaps many, users would prefer no autoplaying as well as no buffering when a video isn't playing. This way, people with slow and others with sufficiently fast connections would both be able to benefit.

Oh, and why can't HD videos be prevented from buffering when the videos aren't being played?

YouTube Enhancer Plus

Stopping autoplay of videos is the most essential thing to provide Ohodnoceno 3 z 5 hvězdiček

There's a problem with this add-on and it's that when I want an add-on to prevent YouTube videos or videos at any other website from playing, it doesn't mean that I want there to be any buffering. I have no need for the buffering. Instead, I need for videos to simply not automatically play. I have a monthly 35GB of Internet usage at no additional cost, but will have to pay for all additional usage and buffering videos increases this usage. Having many tabs open while using both Tab Mix Plus and Session Manager add-ons, plenty of the tabs can be for YouTube video pages, so imagine if everyone of those pages buffers the videos, then I'll exceed my monthly 35GB fairly quickly; given the number of videos that I watch nearly every month.

To prevent autoplay is the sole functionality I really wanted to try out Tube Enhancer Plus, while also being willing to check out the other features the add-on provides. Having done that, I have absolutely no need for those additional features. If I want them, then I can just download a video and watch it in a good and free video or media player.

Stopping autoplay is all I'm seeking and, yes, I had read about Tube Enhancer Plus's buffering even when a video isn't being played but also hoped that this wouldn't be too bad. It is. It's buffering entire videos before I click Play.

I uninstalled Stop Autoplay due to thinking that it wasn't helping with the current version of Firefox, but it wasn't. So videos would begin to autoplay. But, if I clicked to pause, then a little buffering continued to happen. It wasn't much though; far from complete videos, even short videos.

This add-on is of very little practical usefulness for anyone who has an Internet speed of 500Kpbs or faster, and probably even lower than 500Kbps. Mine is 5Mbps, and my limitation without needing to pay more is 35GB data transfer (up and down), so a true autoplay stopper is what's needed. Sorry, but the other "bells and whistles" of this add-on aren't of sufficient practical value.

Tab Mix Lite

Ohodnoceno 3 z 5 hvězdiček

What do I think? I think it'd be great if the home and support pages linked in the main page for downloading this add-on were in either English or French, for since that isn't the case and it'd take a long time to translate the contents, this add-on isn't really usable. And the first three reviews I see at addons.mozilla.org for this add-on seem to be in the same languge, which I guess may be Chinese or Japanese; completely incomprehensible to me anyway.

Hence, and since Firefox is a western product but TMP Lite support doesn't provide information in a western language, I have to give this add-on no better than a 3/5 rating, after which I'll stick with the original TMP. So it'll be 3/5, since the add-on seems to merit at least this much, based on average user ratings.

Stop YouTube Autoplay

Stop YouTube Autoplay doesn't work with Ffx 17.0.1 Ohodnoceno 2 z 5 hvězdiček

I see that my post was deleted and guess it must be due to having included a url for a YouTube video page, so I won't repeat the whole post from memory and will just say that the add-on isn't working with Flash videos at YouTube. I right-clicked on the video to see if HTML5 is listed anywhere in it and it isn't. It seems to be a Flash video sort of menu, just that I think that it also has more options than what I've normally seen when right-clicking on YouTube videos. Maybe not. Perhaps I'm just not recalling the menu entirely enough.Anyway, the add-on isn't working with these videos and I'm presently using Firefox 17.0.1.And until the problem is corrected I'll give the add-on 2 stars, though have been using it for a long time now and it formerly always worked for me. I might be mistaken but think that YouTube should stop "messing around" with the videos. It and other video Web sites should also stop auto-playing of videos, for it should be entirely up to users when to start playing these. Unfortunately, the providers seem to be of a different opinion; but the concept is very simple and these providers surely wouldn't appreciate it if their radios, TVs, computers, cars, electrical tools, et cetera, began to auto-play just because they're present. It's not a novel idea that users be required to turn these things on themselves. And empowering users also isn't a novel idea, either. It's usually essential in software engineering or development and surely also is in engineering fields in general.

ProxMate - unblock the Internet!

How to use Proxmate? Ohodnoceno 3 z 5 hvězdiček

I'll give a 3 of 5 review rating for now, for I just installed Proxmate, the installer page, here, says "No restart", so we don't need to restart Firefox for the add-on to be usable, and I don't see any way of being able to run it. No toolbar icon button was added and nothing was added to the Tools menu of Ffx. I also checked the linked support website, but found nothing there for support.
Similarly, I don't see how to toggle ProxTube on and off. There's apparently no Toolbar icon or button for the add-on, or if there is and I have it, then it must be the little square button with a sad expression for face, but passing the mouse pointer over the button gives no indicate of what the button is for. All Toolbar buttons should give some indicate of what they're for when either clicking on them, or just passing the mouse pointer over them.
In any case, I'm not finding any way to toggle ProxMate. If there's no need to toggle it and it just becomes automatically enabled when a video is from or directly at Hulu, then this isn't working.
Maybe it'll work after restarting Firefox, but in that case, "No restart" should be removed from the installer page for ProxMate.

ProxMate - unblock the Internet!

Patrick Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

Patrick posted on May 4th saying that the following video couldn't be unblocked by ProxMate.

I don't know if was the same thing on May 4th, but when I try to load that video in Ffx, then I get the YouTube message saying that the video's been removed by the user. In that case, nothing is going to be able to play that specific video at YouTube.

I'll give a 4-star rating due to not having tried ProxMate yet and the average user rating is 4 stars. It would be wrong for me to give less, but I also can't give 5 stars since I haven't tried the add-on yet. This post was only to give an explanation for why the video Patrick provided a link for can't currently play.

Not compatible? Update Firefox then Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

I haven't tried this extension yet so can't comment on it or really rate it, but will give 4 stars since that's what the average is so far.

A couple of people, maybe more, complained that v0.7.1 of this add-on couldn't be installed because of incompatibility with Firefox 3.6.20 and 3.6.22, so they ask for the developer to correct this problem. Instead, they should update Firefox! Why always put all of the responsibility on developers to endlessly support very old versions of other software? Does Microsoft continuously supports its op. systems? Definitely not. Do Linux distribution makers? No.

If the add-on doesn't install due to Ffx version compatibility problems, then update to a more recent version of Ffx. Or download the .xpi file for installing the add-on, unpackage the file with an archiveal/unarchival app. like 7-Zip, IZarc, ..., f.e., open the .rdf file that's obtained, look for "version" and modify either the Min or Max version number, whichever evidently needs to be changed. Then save the .rdf file with this change, close the text editor, recreate the .xpi file using an archiver and giving .xpi for filename extension, and then use Firefox's Tools | Add-ons manager to install this modified .xpi file. That might not always work, but often does.

If people don't want to update Ffx due to using an OLD Windows system or other OS, or due to using OLD hardware they think is too limited for current or newer versions of software, but use Ffx 3.6.x and that works okay, then download the .xpi file and check what the Min version number is in the .rdf file. Otoh, if Ffx 3.6.x works okay, then v4 should also work fine. Install that and then this add-on might install without any problems.

People who aren't resourceful need to become that and the Web provides a lot of info. Too many people complain, instead of trying to be resourceful, first. When we've tried everything we can think of to try to resolve problems and nothing has worked, then it's time to ask questions or for help. Complaining should be the very last thing we do. Taking the resourceful route doesn't always work, but it's to be done before complaining.

The add-on is free and the .rdf file is editable, so take the resourceful approaches. And maybe the problem is something other than the .xpi provided. In that case, check the Mozilla.org and Mozillazine.org forums to see if there're answers for the experienced problems.

I regularly update Ffx and Thunderbird when notified about new releases, and a reason that I've read that this is very recommended is because many updates provide security fixes, instead of only feature or functionality differences. Security bugs need to be corrected, so I keep these apps up to date.

Mozilla indicates that this add-on is installable with my Windows system and Ffx version, and the install button is green, which means that Mozilla has fully verified this extension. So I'll install it now.

NetVideoHunter Downloader

The project hasn't died Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

Project's dead?

KaaMoS posted on May 22nd asking if this Firefox extension project has died and also said that the project's website was dead.

The website is presently "alive". I used the link provided in the download page here and the website loads just fine. The four main pages in it are all accessible and everything seems to be working there.

I haven't tried this add-on so can't comment on it, but will give a 4-star rating since that's the average with 241 user reviews that've been posted so far. It would be unethical to give less and I can't say 5 since I haven't tried this extension. So I'll give 4.

This add-on is also the second of three recommendations in a how-to article at CNET.com.

"How to download videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and more"
by Sharon Vaknin on March 28, 2012

I won't provide the url since that might not be accepted in comments here. People reading this and wanting to read the above article can use Google for a site-specific search of CNET, f.e.

Flashget and DownloadHelper are two Firefox add-ons that I have installed and they're useful, but I never do large downloads using the Web browser, because if it crashes or hangs while a download is executing, then I have to restart the browser (when the situation is a hang), and the download will have to be restarted from scratch. So I only use Flashget to redirect downloads to an external application that's only for downloads and the ones I have installed are all much faster than downloads with Firefox. But I'll install and try out the NetVideoHunter add-on. It probably doesn't allow automatic redirection of downloads to a separate application, but maybe it's better than DownloadHelper, and maybe it will work at some websites where these other two add-ons don't.

One immediately appealing feature of NetVideoHunter is that it permits downloading videos in different quality formats when there's more than one available. I don't think the other two add-ons mentioned above provide this functionality, or if they do, they don't prompt the user to make the selection. For that reason, I assume that they don't provide this and it's a great option to have. We may want normal quality, possibly even less when a video file is actually just audio with an image that doesn't change. And we can want highest or next-to-highest quality available.

For that reason alone it'll now be installed. Actually, for that reason and also because this add-on has received plenty of good reviews, as well as having been evaluated by the Mozilla or Firefox developer or QA team.

It must surely deserve at least 4-star ratings.

Google certificates are changing every few minutes, if not less, so I'm repeatedly bombarbared with Google certificate approvals. "So what" if the prior ones become outdated. It's a damn annoyance to be prompted every FEW minutes for approving updates to the certificates.
What's the solution, to disable Certificate Patrol, or something else? I'll totally disable and possibly uninstall it, unless a helpful reply is provided, for I'm not going to put up with these continuous prompts for approviiing, or not, Google certs.

Some users complain Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

I've also complained, starting last evening, but only due to now trying to do much the same work I've been doing in WinXP, this time in Linux. In WinXP, TMT has been certainly useful for me.

Very little, if any, documentation is needed for using this Firefox extension. I've never made use of any, or if I initially did, then it was extremely little. TMT is rather straightforward to use. It isn't difficult at all; not in MS Windows anyway.

TMT, which I've been using for some years now, over two anyway, has never caused any menus to flicker for me. Maybe this flickering problem that NelsonBig has experienced isn't due to TMT, but something else, instead; or maybe a conflict between Firefox extensions he or she has installed. I've never had any flickering due to any Firefox extensions at all.

If TMT is useless for your particular needs, then that's not a reason, in itself, to give the extension a low rating. Reviews should always be critically objective, rather than subjective. We can give our subjective views, but shouldn't do that without also being critically objective. F.e., I don't like some movies or books that are rated highly and which are actually well made or written, but to be able to rate it, I have to abstract myself, say, so I'ld just state my dislike, while also adding that the quality of the work is good, great, or whatever I critically think of it in objective terms.

You could say that you hate your "disgusting" neighbour because he grows marijuana. Which of the two of you would be right in critically objective terms? Your neighbour, of course!

These are my comments on the three negative or unfavourable posts in the first page of reviews, presently.

These people who complained didn't provide critically objective reports and ratings. TMT is useful.

TMT problems with Firefox in Linux persist Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

Quote: "by Visibo (Developer) on March 7, 2012 · permalink

Thanks for the report. For create TMT rows, you may right click a tab and "Send this tab to TMT" and choose "Send to new row". Hope it helps."

The tip you give is good to learn. It wasn't necessary and doesn't resolve the problems I described, but is nevertheless good to know about. It'll be useful.

However, it doesn't cause rows or names of rows to appear in the TMT Options popup (the Row or Rows tab), and doesn't correct the other problems I mentioned. F.e., I can neither save TMT rows to file, nor import from a saved file. And the other problems remain also unresolved, for me anyway.

If we can't save and import saved TMT rows (using external files), and can't see the rows in the Rows tab of TMT Options, plus the bug reporting button also has no effect, then there're several deficiencies with this Firefox extension for Linux; Fedora and Kororaa anyway.

I can still create rows, but the aforementioned deficiencies are very considerable for this extension. It merits a 4-star rating for MS Windows, but if these deficiencies in Linux persist, then the rating will need to be very low for use or usage of this add-on in Linux. (That's something that might not particularly matter to you, but Linux users might care about this and it's better to not provide a very defective add-on than it is to provide them when ratings here are high for this extension and maybe only because of MS Windows users; maybe.)

If the extension fully works correctly in other Linux distros, like Debian-based ones, f.e., then the question that remains is "why not with Fedora-based distros?". I don't think there should be a real difference between the different Linux distros, but maybe there is also for TMT.

addons.mozilla.org says this extension is suitable for Firefox in Linux, but your extension info. (obtained by clicking on the Info. link in the download or install page) doesn't specify any OS'es and versions thereof, at all. So, what are your intentions for use with Ffx in Linux? Maybe you didn't really intend this extension to be used with Ffx in Linux, but Mozilla's verification (if there is any) determined that this would be fully usable in this manner without you being informed of this. (I don't know what the extensions verification process involves.)

Anyway, the problems I first posted about, all of them, persist.

TMT problems in Linux Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

I'm actually using Kororaa 16 (K16), which is based on Fedora 16 (FC16), and added the TooManyTabs extension to Firefox, but there're a number of problems with TMT. This is with Firefox (Ffx) 10.0.1, which TMT supports, or which supports TMT (whichever), including in or with Linux.

1) Creating TMT rows :

I can create TMT subfolders or rows (being called rows in TMT but are subfolders in the Firefox bookmarks manager), but this has to be done by opening the bookmarks manager, going to the TMT subfolder that's in the main unclassified bookmarks folder, and then creating the TMT subfolders myself using the right-click menu. When doing it in Windows XP I can just click on the TMT down-arrow and subfolder list (the TMT menu, I guess it's called) on the left-hand-side of the Ffx browser, open the TMT Options, go to the Rows tab and add (delete or modify the names of) subfolders/rows. To place newly created rows where I want them, then I have to go through the Firefox bookmarks manager whether thiss done in XP or K16, but can perform the other operations using the TMT Options popup in XP.

2) Rows don't show up in TMT Options :

Going to the Rows tab in the TMT options popup window (or whatever it's called) shows all of the names of the rows in WinXP, but shows absolutely nothing in K16, so surely also shows nothing in FC16. In KC16 I can see and select the rows using the TMT menu in the Firefox browser, but see nothing for rows in the TMT Options popup tool.

3) Saving TMT rows to file :

I'm unable to save TMT rows to file using the Advanced tab of the TMT Options popup ... in K16, while this works in XP.

4) Clicking on the bug reporting button fails in TMT Options :

In the Advanced tab of TMT Options, where we can save and load TMT rows to and from a file, there's a third button for using to report bugs and this button is supposed to copy the profile data or information to the clipboard, but the clipboard in K16 is Klipper and nothing from gets written to it by clicking on this TMT Options button.

Rating :

I selected 4 of 5 stars due to only beginning to use TMT with Ffx in Linux, as of very recently; while having used TMT for some years with Ffx in WinXP.

I'm not an expert and don't know anything about the latter problem, but if a user is behind a router, then the user is basically connecting through a LAN's device interface and when connecting to the Internet, then it's always connecting to the external world. Based on information recently read about this, the user's personal IP address will be his or her local address within the domestic or ... whatever LAN being used, while ISPs assign different external IP addresses every time a user reconnects to the ISP's server or servers. The local IP address remains constant, until manually changed, while the external IP address changes dynamically at the ISP end of the connection.

If, however, the person doesn't connect and reconnect to the Internet inbetween restarts of Firefox or any other Web app, then I guess the external IP address doesn't, or at least might not, change until the person reboots his or her PC, or, possibly, also when logging out of the OS account and logging back in without rebooting the PC.

Anyway, I thought that some of what I just wrote might possibly be the reason why megabob6666 kept being notified that his external IP address kept changing everytime he restarted Ffx.

I haven't yet tried this Ffx extension and am reading about it right now, but will rate it 4 of 5 stars since that's what the average user rating is so far with 42 reviews that were posted before this post was submitted.

I've been using TubeStop for at least a year now and it works at Youtube for me, but not when going to channel pages. Every time, or very nearly, I go to someone's channel page, the main video the person presents at the top of the page automatically plays.

So, I'll give a 4-star rating.

It would be great to have a similar add-on for doing the same thing TubeStop does, but for other video websites. Videos at Dailymotion, f.e., always automatically play, and the same thing also happens at ustream.tv.

Damn, Mozilla did it again. Damn Mozilla for making the default rating 1. There should be no default rating and we should be prompted for what we wish to say for rating. My second post in which it was said that I don't give a 1-star rating, but rather a temporary 4-star rating shows up as another 1-star and that's Mozilla bs because I didn't notice their stupid little Rating gadget above the "Submit review" button.
