Bookmarks Favicon Images

Follow-up on previously reported problems Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

The author suggested posting these follow-up comments as a new "review" so that he could comment on them.

1: There remains a problem selecting image names from the Pick New Bookmarks Favicon Image window. Some names can be selected while others cannot. Further investigation revealed that when the menu is initially displayed, you can select any of the visible names, but if you display the window and immediately scroll down (I have a lot of images in my directory) then you cannot select any image. However, scroll the window a second time -- even just one line -- and you can then select these images. Also, once you select any image on the initial display, you can scroll and select any other image.

Also, when I do select an image name, all the other names on that line disappear. The names are still there and can be selected, so I'm thinking that they turn white and disappear into the background. There is something strange going on with this menu. If it's a Firefox problem, it's like nothing I've seen before.

2: I still have a problem with icons reverting to the default when certain sites are visited. This add-on seems to remember the newly assigned icons and will display them when Firefox is restarted, but not during the remainder of the session . All the Google sites (search, images, contacts, calendar, groups, etc.) as well as Amazon are examples of this. I followed the suggested procedures and tried many variations (e.g., exiting and restarting Firefox between deleting and remaking the links, etc.) but was not able to improve the situation. I'm using the stock Bookmark Toolbar.

The only other thought I have is that i;m using the Nautipolis 3.12 theme. I wonder if this could be playing any sort of role, although it's not obvious what that might be.

------------------------------------
Additional comments:

The problem is NOT the Nautipolis theme. I tried two other themes including the default and the icons continue to change when visiting these sites. I have no other extensions that affect icons that I know of. The old Bookmark Favicon Changer was removed before installing this extension. I tried deactivating Classic Theme restorer with no improvement.

Solving the underlying problem would certainly be best, but maybe you could put a button on your Set Images menu to force a reset of the custom icons, and then allow it to be assigned to a keyboard shortcut so that the icons could be manually reset quickly without having to restart the browser.

Bookmarks Favicon Images

A good start with a few problems Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

Thanks for making a replacement for the defunct Bookmark Favicon Changer. I just installed it on Firefox 55.0.2 on an Xubuntu 17.04 system and have found a few problems.

[** Wizardgoat replied below and all comments in brackets are my follow-up edits, place here to hopefully help others. **]

1: I populated the chrome/BookmarksFolderImages file with my icon repository. When I open the "Open User Images File in Profile" window, all the files are shown. However, when I try "Set Bookmarks Favicon Images" and then "Pick New Favicon Image," the image selection window does not show certain files. I've even tried renaming them and then restarting Firefox, but these particular simple jpeg files refuse to display.

[** Thanks. You were correct, it was the jpg files that were the problem. I used ImageMagick's convert utility to batch process all the jpgs to png format and that solved the problem. **]

2: I find that there is some problem selecting icons from the selection window. The name is displayed, but cannot be selected regardless of how many times I click it. Sometimes if I scroll the list up/down, it becomes possible to then select these names, but not always.

[** My system is pretty powerful with lots of memory, so that isn't the issue. I played around with this quite a bit and what I discovered is that Pick New Bookmarks Favicon Image window is displayed, you can select any of the displayed names, but if you display the window and immediately scroll down (I have a lot of images in my directory) then you cannot select any image.

3: I have assigned icons (including the built-in icons) to various links on my Bookmarks Toolbar. Everything is fine until I visit the linked site where the icons are then replaced by the site's default icon. (Examples: Amazon, Google Calender) Even when you exit and restart Firefox, the site icon remains displayed even though the Bookmark Favicon Images assignment window still shows the desired local icon assignment for that link. After the new session of Firefox is running for a couple of minutes, the desired icons are finally restored until the next time the link is visited and the undesirable icons then appear to remain displayed for the remainder of the session.

[** I followed the suggested procedures and tried many variations (e.g., exiting and restarting Firefox between deleting and remaking the links, etc.) but was not able to improve the situation. I'm using the stock Bookmark Toolbar. Maybe the Nautipolis 3.12 theme I'm using might be having some effect. I'll investigate that later. **]

I hope some of these issues can be addressed.

[** Thanks for the very quick and detailed response. I really appreciate that. I upped the rating to 4 stars based upon that alone. I'll repost some of these comments as separate "reviews" as you suggested. **]

Nautipolis for Firefox

Broken in Firefox 51 Ohodnoceno 3 z 5 hvězdiček

Nautipolis is my favorite theme which has been in use for many years now. However, on my Ubuntu system, starting with Firefox 51, it is badly broken. You cannot customize toolbars while it is enabled and I just discovered that it is also prohibiting the Google User Account pop-up bubble from displaying. it looks like the theme works with Firefox on Windows systems, but displays these problems under Linux. I hope the developer reads this and can fix the problem.

All-in-One Gestures

Excellent -- with one small exception Ohodnoceno 5 z 5 hvězdiček

This add-on works perfectly, with one exception.

With browser.tabs.autoHide set to false, the tab bar is always displayed, even if there is only a single tab open. If the "Close current Tab" action accidentally gets executed in the last remaining tab, then the entire browser window is dismissed. It would be good to add a modified action that would close the current tab -- unless this were the last remaining tab open, in which case the action would be ignored. This would solve the problem of having browser sessions terminated unexpectedly due to losing track of the number of tabs opened.

Other than this small nit, the gestures work reliably. This is a great productivity improvement to the browsing experience.

Nightly Tester Tools

Broken Ohodnoceno 2 z 5 hvězdiček

Firefox 3.6.23 on Solaris 10 SPARC system

I agree with QueenOfStars writing on August 24, 2011

"the version numbering is off; you went from 3.1.7 back to 3.1.5.1 and it doesn't auto-update anymore."

The "make compatible" button no longer displays on the Add-ons menu and Force Addon Compatibility option from the Tools->Nightly Tester Tools menu does nothing.

Is there a plan to fix this and when will this be updated for Firefox 7?

Favicon Picker 3

Ohodnoceno 4 z 5 hvězdiček

A good tool. A couple of suggestions for improvements:

1: You cannot currently assign icons to folders in your bookmarks.

2: It would be nice to add a "Save" button on the properties menu so that the favicon for an existing bookmark could be copied to disk and then assigned to another bookmark.
