  • I am so sorry this is not compatible with the latest version of Firefox. It would be great if you would update it! It's so useful!
  • Still functional in MFF 42.0b9"Still funcionality!

  • OK, the old version on this page don't work any more on FF4. But don't be sad.
Here is a link to a new version which I installed on FireFox 4.0 final release and it seems to be working perfectly. I love it. I've been saved!

  • Tab history is one of my mission-critical add-ons.

    A must have !

Does not work with Firefox 4 RC
  • I also cannot install the beta with FF 3.6.13.
    I get:
Firefox could not install the file at

  • This is a very useful addon, that should blatantly be firefox's default behaviour.
  • This is possibly one of the most useful, undiscovered extension for any tabaholic!

Ever been clicking through tabs, then wanted to go back a page only to find you've opened a new tab and doesn't have any back history? This addon solves this problem! Try it out!
  • this plugin doesn't work when I middle click on the back button. A new tab opens with the previous page, but no history.

I used this so much on Epiphany...Is someone able to implement it?
  • I've uploaded a version that works with Firefox 4, and you don't even have to restart after you install it:

  • eyaler, thank you very much!
Complete instructions to duplicate the functionality:
    1. Install userChromeJS v. 1.2 extension from userchromejs.mozdev.org, changing it to work on FF 4.
    2. Put the code from the link pointed by eyaler in /chrome/userChrome.js & delete the line "LOG ("copyHistory");"
    3. Restart FF & enjoy

  • It absolutely does not work with ff 4 beta 5

    any alternatives?
  • I can't wait for this to be available for the latest build. Tab History is a Must Have extention for me!
  • How to make it work with newer Firefox (UPDATED)

    1. Download the addon as a normal file (don't install it)
    2. Change its extension from xpi to zip.
    3. Unpack the archive to a folder
    4. Browse the folder and look for install.rdf
    5. Edit the file with notepad
    6. Change the line where you see "maxVersion" from:
    3.5.*
    to
    3.6.*
    7. Save the file
    8. Repack the folder with zip archiver or winrar
    9. Change its extension back to .xpi
    10. Drag & drop the addon on firefox window to install it
OR (if your browser won't let you do this)
    11. From the menubar select File > Open file and select the addon
  • I Really Miss It ! This is the addon I miss the most after updating to 3.6.3. I wish the developer would consider updating it! It WAS a 5 star addon.
  • Bug 18808 says this works with FF 3.6, but the addons page refuses to install it. Please change the version limit in the add-on to allow the installation.
  • Love it!
Could be better if it worked when ctrl+clicking the "previous" and "next" buttons (opening previous page in new tab)
  • I second Dawudd's review. One problem caused by the "bug" is that when using with Tab Mix Plus, if I replace the last closed tab with blank tab, then open a new tab, it does not replace the blank tab. After reverting to 1.0.6, the problem goes away.
  • Very good addon, but update it and correct it for FF3.6 to make it great.
  • The version beta does not work in Firefox 3.6.4? Windows 7? Help!
  • Using 1.0.7 in Firefox 3.6, history is cloned even for fresh tabs: if I click on the New Tab button, the history of whatever tab I was viewing at the time will follow me to this new tab. Similarly, if I close all tabs, instead of being left with a completely-fresh tab, the history of the last tab viewed simply does not go away. Perhaps this was considered a feature, but to me it’s a bug. I just don’t see any use case where this is advantageous. It actually breaks my mental model of my browsing session.

Regarding that last feature/bug, it actually has its own bug: the cloned history does not contain the currently-viewed page but only the Back history. In other words, the current page in the history is replaced by about:blank.

I hope this issue is fixed. More importantly, I hope this extension is finally incorporated in Firefox proper soon!
  • 1.0.7 beta works fine in Windows and Linux (Arch Linux), why not make it official? is very good, can not miss this addon in Firefox :)
