The Rt click to open very useful indeed! but just that 1-single page link does not open. Intended? Do not see the opt out of private option tho. None the less its a definite 5 for me, myself and I. That's 3 big 5's right?
I just tried Firefox 36 - I don't know how prior versions performed, BUT: I have a non-private window opened with a few tabs already open. I right-clicked my mouse on a link in one of the tabs. On the Firefox context menu that appeared, (second item down,) is a menu item labeled "Open link in new private window".
I clicked on that context menu item, and a new private window was immediately opened. And BONUS! The existing non-private window I already had open (with a few tabs open), remained on my screen. So, I could move from one window to the other without losing any information. What more could I ask for? By the way, I'm on a Windows 7 PC, 32-bit.
Respectfully, perhaps this extension isn't needed to accomplish at least my own objective, which is to have my existing window remain open while I right-click a link and open the clicked link in a new Private window. And I understand from Mozilla blogs that actually having separate tabs (some private and some not) within the same window is not available.
This is my first review. Perhaps I didn't clearly understand this developer's description - English being my second language. For that, I apologize in advance.
If I had the time, I wish I could learn to create Extensions and Add-Ons.
You're right; since the add-on was developed, Firefox gained the right-click option to open a link in a private window. That didn't exist at the time. The add-on was most useful when Firefox did not yet have the ability to run private and non-private windows alongside each other.
One of the few remaining things this add-on does is "open this page in private browsing mode" in the right-click menu.
If you don't need that, you don't need this add-on. That's why it's an add-on ;)
I'm sure the Open in Private Browsing Mode does what it says - but there is an alternative - Private Tab - with this you can set your home page to private: http://...... and same thing for settings with Custom New Tab - so a new page and a new tab will always open in private mode with purple mask. I am surprised however that the firefox community hasn't invented a way of timed signing out of gmail and other google products - this would avoid a whole lot of grief !! Many thanks for everyone's efforts.
hoping private browsing mode can be opened in new tab and instead of new window, great add on ^_^ a 4stars for me
I use it together with Open in Private Window.
Excellent add-on but does not work with saved o bar bookmarks! :(
Good, but the addons stop working in version FF 21.0 . Please update to support it! Many thanks!
I updated the add-on for the latest versions of Firefox and am now adding a "open this page in private browsing" item to the right click menu when you right-click on any page.
Dev has fixed non-function in FF20b1 - many thanks for prompt response and solution
This addon is almost perfect. The only thing I can think of that would make it even better is a button to switch to private browsing mode that could be placed in the addon bar or nagivation bar.
Good suggestion! Keep in mind that soon, Firefox will have per-window private browsing, so that button may not be as useful anymore.
Great plugin, hope to see per-window private mode implemented soon in firefox.
Thank you! Per-window private browsing mode is coming to Firefox very soon (it is already available in test versions)! I'm going to add support for it to this add-on very soon. Thanks for your patience :)
wanted open new tab in private mode.
sorry for one star. I bad know english and I lost my temper
Please, PLEASE read the description next time. I cannot change the way Firefox does Private Browsing. This is a restriction by Firefox and this add-on is unable to change it. Giving the add-on one star is like giving a car one star because it can't fly :(
It useless. Instead of opening new Firefox instance in private browsing mode, this add-on closes your current Firefox window with all opened tabs and opens a new window in private browsing mode with the only tab containing link. I wish it would not close the existing window.
That's a Firefox thing, not caused by this add-on. When you close private browsing mode again, all your tabs will come back.
On the upside, there is per-window private browing coming to Firefox very soon! I will happily use that capability in this add-on when it's available to me.
This addon would save you the trouble of copying the link address, starting Private Mode, then copy pasting manually. :) Now it's not too much of a pain to go into Private Mode! Thanks!
Could the possibility exist whereby a link you want to view in Private browsing mode (when u right click) would open in a new window instead of a tab, thereby preserving existing tab? (for test purposes and future update to this great add-on) I dunno if 2 firefox browsers open: one in normal mode and the other in private mode or that such thing can be possible, do you know?
Like this add-on, great for those unusual times lol
Sad you think that. Unfortunately, your comment is "not useful" as well, because you don't say why you think that, and what could be done to make it more useful in your eyes.
very good idea
new feature: open a bookmark in private mode (right click)
Does what is says. Much more convenient.
This program opens a blank Private Browsing page, not the page I was on. Not useful.
Did you read the description?
Pretty good. It does exactly what it says.
I was hoping I could open a link in private while keeping my other tabs open. But it doesn't. You have to switch back and forth every time which is annoying.
Sad you feel that way, but this add-on can not fix the way Firefox's private browsing mode works. You are kind of shooting the messenger here ;) There is no way for me to run private browsing alongside regular browsing if Firefox does not support it.
Works great! I have one suggestion. It would be better if it did not hide your other tabs when you switch to private browsing. It would be better if you could have regular and private browsing tabs open at once. I didn't want to get this add-on at first because it is version 0.1.
"It would be better if it did not hide your other tabs when you switch to private browsing."
I agree, but that's nothing that I can control: Firefox's private browsing mode works that way currently and my add-on only uses it, it does not replace the way Firefox works. Sorry! :-/
Does exactly what it says it does. Only annoying thing, and this is a Firefox issue not the extension, is that you cannot have just a private tab or say a new instance of Firefox running in private browsing so you can keep your other tabs open at the same time. Could do with explaining this behaviour in the description so people don't wonder what is happening when they first use it.
Thanks! I'll see if I can point this caveat out in the description!
Does what it says.. If it doesn't, your rig is wrong!
If you consider it simple and effective, any reason you only rated it three stars? Just curious. If you have any suggestions for improvements, I am happy to consider them! Thanks!
OK. Works fine.
