Zásady ochrany osobních údajů pro doplněk EndNote Click
EndNote Click od EndNote click - formerly Kopernio
The EndNote Click add-on is developed and managed by Clarivate Analytics (or ‘Clarivate’). Our mission is to help you obtain legitimate access to the research you need in the fastest way possible. This document sets out the privacy implications of using the EndNote Click add-on, including what personal information is made available to Clarivate, why we require this information and what we do with the information you provide.
In order to use the EndNote Click add-on, you’ll need to create a EndNote Click account. This is done via click.endnote.com and is facilitated by Clarivate. As part of this process, we require certain personal details which are collected for specific purposes (i.e. account creation and management, support, product personalisation and development as well as other product administrative tasks) and which we store securely on our servers. Clarivate collects personal data about you directly from you. This includes:
Your name - e.g. to communicate with you and provide personalisations.
Your email address – e.g.to communicate with you and in some cases to verify your affiliation to a specific institution.
Your institutional affiliation (optional) - e.g. to help us determine where you should be directed for authentication purposes and to help aggregate your anonymised usage.
A password - to keep your account secure. We recommend you use a strong, unique password for your account.
Besides the data you disclose to Clarivate during account creation, the EndNote Click add-on also collects and uses other data to facilitate the download of journal article PDFs on relevant academic and scientific platforms:
The add-on enables you to securely store your institutional credentials within in your local browser storage to help you get rapid access to PDFs. Clarivate does not use or have access to these credentials – they are only used by the EndNote Click add-on on your computer.
When you access papers, a copy of the PDF along with information on how and when the document was downloaded, is stored in your private cloud storage called your ‘EndNote Click Locker’, which is hosted by Clarivate. This handy feature allows the EndNote Click add-on (i) to try and find updates that may have been published to previously accessed articles and (ii) to sync PDFs across different devices. The EndNote Click add-on also keeps a record of the articles you’ve previously viewed in your ‘EndNote Click History’, which helps you to quickly find articles you have previously accessed. We do however use this information in the aggregate without identifying you as an individual (please see below for more information). We understand that the data you share with us contains private and confidential information, and we pledge to be respectful of your privacy and deserving of your trust in how we handle this data.
When Clarivate handles your personal data, we follow three core principles:
- We do not access or use your institutional login credentials.
The EndNote Click add-on does, however, allow you to store this information in an encrypted format in your browser. - We do not share data with third-parties that would allow you to be individually identified.
Specifically, Clarivate does not share the contents of your EndNote Click Locker, or information on what you are downloading or reading. You may of course explicitly decide to share this data with other researchers, e.g. when you invite other users to use the EndNote Click add-on. Full disclosure: we rely on third-parties for the hosting of EndNote Click's technical infrastructure including servers and databases. - Your data and your content are owned by you.
Whatever data and content you upload to your EndNote Click add-on account is owned by you. We do not claim any ownership rights. You can delete your data at any time by sending us an account deletion request to help@kopernio.com. Aggregated Statistics
From all users' individual accounts, Clarivate anonymously aggregates metadata and statistics, some of which may be made available to the EndNote Click community. Nothing about you personally can be inferred from the aggregated statistics.
One example: the EndNote Click community will be able to see that a certain journal article had 5,713 downloads and was the most popular journal article in biology last week. However, nobody except you will know whether you were one of these 5,713 readers.
We believe that aggregating the data in this way benefits both you and the research community at large, because it:
improves the speed by which we can help other researchers to access this and similar papers,
yields insights into research trends in different academic disciplines,
lays the foundation for new journal article recommendation engines,
enables you to discover the most interesting people in your academic discipline, and
helps to build the fastest and most convenient network for research paper access, free to use for everyone. Interacting With Websites You Visit
The EndNote Click add-on requires the permission to view and modify all web traffic as there is no built-in way to configure Firefox to only “activate” the add-on on scholarly pages (such as those on journal or publisher sites). Article discovery can take place on tens of thousands of sites, and not all of these conform to common standards or practices. Therefore, the EndNote Click add-on needs to determine whether to engage on each page you visit. The add-on only fully activates when you visit an academic website with a known academic URL such as www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed or because academic metadata (such as a DOI or PMID) are present on the page. Otherwise the add-on is dormant and does not interact at all with your browsing.
When visiting relevant academic websites, the add-on will modify the webpage you’re viewing. This is done to enable EndNote Click add-on-specific workflows, such as inserting EndNote Click-on buttons (or buttons) for one-click access to PDFs in relevant, helpful locations. We do not otherwise modify the pages you view.
Other than click.endnote.com and other websites with specific integrations to facilitate integrated functionality (such as Web of Science), the EndNote Click add-on does not make it apparent to websites you visit that the add-on is installed. This is to ensure your privacy when using the add-on, and to ensure that you have the expected experience when visiting different platforms.
Clarivate aims to always make it apparent when the add-on is active. You will either notice the ‘overlay’ appear in the bottom left corner of your browser, or you will see buttons appearing in the content of your webpage.
For the full-length "legal language" version, please have a look at our Privacy Policy. If you have questions, ideas, or concerns, please send them to help@kopernio.com.
