Good while it lasted, NO MORE Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It no longer works.
It has been abandoned with no notice.
Shame, was good when it worked.

No longer working properly Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Exports to GMail, but contact is hidden, not on list of Contacts. No answer on Forum, and to Bug Report. Thought I fixed it, but did not. Now, must periodically delete Gmail AB and reimport.

Not working anymore Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Not working anymore sice last Google Updates, so this is some kind of abandonware... What a pity.

Another Abandonware Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Did not work very well anyway, now abandoned
We appreciate the work of the author and understand that sometimes this happens. Author should remove projects (at least 10 that appear abandoned).
Now very happy with gContactSync !!

Google Contacts in a tab Rated 4 out of 5 stars

For those who want to open Gogle Contacts in a tab: install Google Calendar Tab. Then go to TB menu and open Tools/Extensions and click on GCT preferences. You'll find a dialog box. Click on "Google Apps for your Domain". Then edit it into "". You'll have Google Contacts opened in a new tab. Remark: I have gContactSync installed, I did not verify if that works without gCS.

Worked wonderfully, but no more Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It worked flawlessly for many years, but due to Google APIs change, it doesn't work anymore :-(

No longer working or supported Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The author of this addon has vanished and it no longer works due to recent changes in google auth. Do not install.

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The author has disappeared, and the plugin does not work with current Google auth. This was reported with 7.13b1 in 2014 and there are 15 support tickets on it with no response.

Doesn't work Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This addon hasn't worked in quite a while because of Google's API changes, and should not be distributed anymore.

Any chance for a version compatible with 38.1.0 and Google new security policies anytime soon?

Hi everyone... This add-on seems abandoned; try using gContactsSync instead.

Abandoned? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This was an amazing plugin. I wish the author would get behind it and fix it. I am giving it 5 stars for what it was in hopes that the author picks this back up and fixes its google integration again.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It was a good application while it lasted. But as others have commented, this addon doesn't work with the latest thunderbird. Keeps prompting to enter the password, with no luck. As it is, I notice the pugin has not been updated since 2013, almost 2 years now.

Doesn't work with recent TB anymore and I couldn't find any decent alternative(s) :(

Dead [as on 11-Jul-15] Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Google contacts 0.7.12 is no longer compatible with TB 38.0.1. Switching to gContactSync.

After so many years, time to say goodbye to this great plug-in.

Ne fonctionne plus ! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Dommage que cette extension ne fonctionne plus, elle était très bonne. Passez à gContactSync

Instead of this Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Wish this still worked! But for those of you SEARCHING for a way to add Google Contacts as a tab AND Google Calendar as a tab - I found a way. I added the following Addon Google Calendar Tab. Then opened that tab (Tools/Google Calendar - at bottom of menu). Once Google Calendar is opened and you are all logged in. Go to the GOOGLE black tool bar. Select Gmail. It will open a tab for Gmail. Verify you are logged into the correct gmail account that has your contact - duh LOL. THEN simply dropped down "Mail" upper left under "Gmail" and select Contacts. Viola. now ya got both of what you need in your Thunderbird. Use gContactSync and you can then send email as Thunderbirds contact list will sync with Google contact. Took me days to work this out! So I really hope it helps some one else.

Sadly this is history, but gContactSync works well.
gContactSync is being kept up to date and uses the now required OAuth2 - a more secure method of authentication that does not require application-specific passwords for accounts using 2-step authentication.

(Below TB means Thunderbird).

If you have this old Google Contacts installed, then 1st Uninstall it (via TB Tools menu/Add-ons and then select the old Google Contacts add-on and click Remove). Then open the TB Address book and rename the old Google address book to "old-something" or better yet, just delete it.

Then download and save the gContactSync xpi file from

[Note, if you block cookies in Firefox, then read the following link (If you do not understand what this means, then skip this step as the normal default Firefox settings work fine).see ]

Now install gContactsync as follows...

In TB, get to the Tools menu (Don't see it? try Alt-T) Open Add-ons from the Tools menu.
Near the top right of the screen, find the Options button (which is the gear shaped icon next to the "search all add-ons" field).
Click this Options (gear shaped) button and select "Install Add-on From File..." and locate the just downloaded gcontactSync add-on xpi file and select it. etc.
Let it install.
Restart TB.
It will ask how to set up - pick your Google email address from the drop down list (if not there then enter it). Take the default and create an address book named the same as your gmail address. This should be a new address book - if it is not, then change the name so it is new.

I told it to sync all groups and contacts, and told it to sink one way only - from Google to here. But the other options should work find. (I have seen suggestions to only sync the My Contacts group and not the group lists, but I find the group lists convenient.)

Now open TB's Address book - it may ask to login to Google. Do it. Give the complete Google email address. (It does not save the password).

It will now quickly set up a new TB address book for your Google contacts and sync it. You are all ready to go.
