Unfortunately it no longer works in FF 41. Unable to override the newly introduced Firefox tiles. Always used the Home page as my new tab but even the about:config setting is blocked.

Works OK but also does annoying things Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Works, but often brings up an URL on a tab when you don't want it to. I think this add-on should only insert a URL when the new tab is blank.

In current behaviour, say you have it set to bring up your homepage on new tabs, it will go to your homepage when restoring a closed tab from history, and when restarting Firefox it will put your homepage over one of your tabs in one of your windows.

It's easy enough to hit "back" to get back to the proper page, but there's a risk you'll mistake it for an unused tab and just close it, losing whatever you were doing.

Does not work. Does not redirect tab to new specified address.

And yes I followed the instructions to the letter (several attempts) to modify the about:config settings for newtab entries, as per appended instructions here

Waste of time

A Fix for when NewTabUrl Does not work upon installation Rated 4 out of 5 stars

If NewTabURL does not work upon installation and its button does not appear on any tool bar or in the customize pane, try this fix. Make sure you note all original values before changing them in case the fix does not work for you.

1) Disable newtaburl from tools>add-ons

2) Type about:config in address bar and click on the "I promise to be careful" button.

3) In the search bar, find "browser.newtab.url" (without the quotes) and right-click in the value field to modify it to blank

4) In the search bar, find "browser.newtabpage.enabled" (without the quotes) and right-click in the value field to modify it to true (if not already true)

5) Re-enable newtaburl from tools>add-ons
6) restart Firefox

I added this add-on with Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 34. I had Firefox set to restore previous session. When I would start Firefox I kept getting one of my tabs overwritten with the Mozilla home page.
For this computer I had to remove NewTabURL. However, for all my other computers it is working fine. You may need to go into about:config, search for browser.newtab.url and change the value to about:home. And actually after removing NewTabURL my new tabs still worked ok, so perhaps this add-on is no longer relevant.

Trouble with Firefox 26 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 26, a lot of my add-ons disappeared. I reinstalled NewTabURL, but it's not functioning properly. I want it to load new tabs with Google, but new tabs load a Top Sites kind of page instead. Frustrating.

Howto: Fixing NewTabURL
by GGITech on September 23, 2012

Remove NewTabURL
If you have done any of the about:config / browser.newtaburl changes, then undo them.
browser.newtab.url - should be blank
browser.newtabpage.enabled - should be true
Add NewTabURL.
Now the Add-On works as expected, including the "URL from Clipboard"

Nálam semmit nem csinál. Beállítottam, újraindítottam, de az új lapnál nincs semmi.

You think this should have been a built in function of FF.

It works on Firefox 17 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Newtaburl did not work any more in Firefox 17. I followed the procedure given by GGITech and that works now.

It DOES work in FF15 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Thanks to GGITech's post "How to Get it Working" I undid all the changes that had already been made to about:config by me or other add-ons/options, and now NewTabURL is working beautifully again for me.

MANY thanks, GGITech!

Be good if the add-on author could update it to do the required tweaks for you though.

NewTabURL doesn't work in FF14. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Judging from the reviews, NewTabURL has been broken for awhile.

So I will try a different addon called: New Tab Homepage

Hasn't worked for a few versions now and author clearly has no intention of fixing. 1 star.

NewTabUrl + Firefox 13.x Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Für die deutschsprachigen User:
GGITech hat weiter unten beschrieben wie das Addon mit FF13.x wieder funktioniert (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/newtaburl/reviews/356558/):

1. Das Addon NewTabURL entfernen
2. Änderungen in about:config entfernen:
Den Wert von "browser.newtab.url" leer lassen
"browser.newtabpage.enabled" auf True setzen
3. NewTabUrl erneut von addons.mozilla.org installieren

Funktioniert wunderbar - Kudos GGITech ! :-)

THANK YOU GGITech!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The new Firefox 13 does stupid things when you open a new tab. I slimmed down how to fix it for those like me who don't like fussing around...

Go to about:config (Write it in the address bar.)
Paste browser.newtab.url in to the blank bar on that screen that allows you to filter through.
Click Modify and then delete out the value.
Now close it.

Yeah!! No more stupid weirdness just a blank page when you click new tab.
