Great addon Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Does exactly what I wanted (places focus on URL bar when creating a new tab)

Just what I need. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks. This add-on is the very thing I've been looking for.
I tried the " about:config" method, .... no go.
CNT solved the problem. Cheers, ... Den.

New version has issue with TabUtilities Rated 5 out of 5 stars

After upgrading to new version I am having serious issues with Tab Utilities, which were working perfectly together. The RELOAD button is not working anymore. Fix needed urgently. Other than that it's perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

When I open a link in new tab (didn't switch to that tab) and click that tab while it is loading the page then the URL bar gets focused after the page is fully loaded. On the other hand, when I click that tab after it is fully loaded, then the URL bar doesn't get focused.
I don't know if it is the intended behaviour, but I think, that URL bar should not get focused, when a loading tab is clicked.
Can you fix this please?

Still Loving Version 1.6.5 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This add-on is a great convenience and time saver. I run Firefox 26 in Bodhi Linux (Ubuntu derivative), on a laptop and on a desktop machine. The upgrade to CNT 1.7.1 broke the functionality for me on both machines. I could not get the cursor focus to be in the Google search box, regardless of what I checked or unchecked. I went back to version 1.6.5, and all is well! Thanks for creating this nifty tool.

One day later ----------
Hmmm --- today I booted up to find that I once again have version 1.7.1, and the cursor focus remains in the Google search box where I want it. I do not know how I got versions 1.7.1 back, or why it works fine now!! In any case, this is a great add-on, especially with the desired focus restored after a month of frustration.

Outstanding work. There is another add-on that allows for a URL to be opened when selecting a new tab. It is "Tab Mix Plus".

I request from the author that once the new tab is opened with the URL, that the URL/location bar be cleared. Or is there a way of doing this already?

Simple

In the preferences for CNT, erase the url (so it's blank), check the box for "place focus in url bar." If you have some URL and check the 'place focus in the url bar' then then URL will be highlighted and you can just start typing to replace what is there. Seems pointless to me to erase the URL for the user.

Works mostly great! The only problem when using focus to address bar on new tab function is that this plugin focuses to address bar even when the new tab is opened to background. (with ctrl + mouse click, etc.). Could you please add a feature to only focus on the address bar if the tab was opened to foreground?

Fixed

I was able to replicate this bug and I fixed it. Thanks for the input! Please comment again if it isn't fixed in version 1.8+

@Ed, please help. Is there a way to improve the extension so that it can *fully* disable the focus in the URL bar? It works fine at Firefox start up, but NOT when:
1. I open a new tab
2. I close the last tab without closing Firefox.
Since I am using Toolbar Autohide 6.3.1 (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fullscreen-toolbar-hover/?src=search) the damned cursor in the URL bar blocks the bar from being hidden as it should be.
Thanks for your attention.

Confused

I'm not sure I understand the nature of this bug. Firstly, you cannot close the last tab in Firefox (i.e. you cannot have Firefox open with 0 tabs).

I can't guarantee that the add-on will work perfectly with all other addons. Have you tried in my add-on unchecking the focus box (so the focus is moved to the content of the new web page). This may solve your problem.

Now I got it - exactly this thing I searched for. To specify a custom URL by opening a new tab. This Add- On does this and therefore thanks a lot to Ed!

Request improvement Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Hi,

when I open a new tab, the URL bar is automatically selected and this is exactly what I want.

However, what I find a bit of annoying is the following:
When I click on a link with CTRL+Mouse to open it in a new tab (to read it later), the URL bar is automatically selected on the current tab. This is really annoying on Ebay, when you have multiple auction links and the cursor keeps jumping from the Ebay search field to the URL bar...

I hope you can improve your add-on in a way, the setting is only applied to a new tab and not to the active tab.

Regards

Bug Fixed

This bug should be fixed in the newest versions (1.8+)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As of July/2013 it works great & now I'm at Google whenever I open a new Tab.

Author should provide clear Instructions on how to make this work. Here is how I did it:

1. With Firefox open, click Tools
2. Click Add-Ons
3. Choose Extensions in left column
4. Choose the Custom Tab addon
5. Click on Options
6. type in URL you want to go to when a new Tab is opened.

Details

If you do not have the "focus placed in URL bar" option checked, then the URL bar will not be selected when a new tab is opened.

I can't replicate that behavior. The add-on should never placed the cursor at the end of the URL (nu-high-lighted). What OS are you using? What new tab URL are you using?

Works perfectly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Blank new tab? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Firefox 22.0
Funnelcake April 2013
mozilla22 -1.0

Custom New Tab 1.7

In Tools/Options/General my home page is set to this image: file:///D:/My%20%20Pictures/screensaver%20landscapes/4211350a.jpg, i.e. path is set as a URL. I checked this in about:config - browser.startup.homepage is set to same image.

Custom New Tab is set to the same image - I checked this in about:config at browser.newtab.url.

However, when I open Firefox a blank new tab appears, not the home page image that I have set. If I then click on home page icon the image will appear on the tab, and also the image will appear on a new tab when I click on the New Tab icon.

Why does Firefox open with a blank new tab instead of the new tab I have set in the extension, and instead of the home page I have set in Options?

Check Your Settings :)

In Tools/Options/General there is a "When Firefox Starts" dropdown. Change it to "show my homepage" instead of "show a blank page"

Basic and reliable. What I like in add-ons. The shame is that it is even needed. If goggle would have simply added this functionality into the browser itself.........

Same issues as ListerUK Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Made an account just to post this reply, hope it helps others.

I was having the same issue as ListerUK with both FF 21 and FF 22. I went to Custom New Tab's options menu, checked "Place focus in URL bar", UNchecked it again, saved the options, and voila, problem solved!

I don't think it was an add-on issue, but something to do with FF reinitializing the existing add-ons when it installed its updates.

Been using CNT for a looonnng time. Cheers, Ed!!
