Disconnect Search prevents disabling of search engine suggestions Waardering 4 van 5 sterren
I'm experiencing this on FF 51.0.1 (32-bit) Windows 10; as soon as I untick 'provide suggestions' and click inside the search bar, the suggestions checkbox is toggled back on. Following the steps outlined here I am able to reproduce the problem with just Disconnect and Disconnect Search installed. As soon as I disable the latter, I no longer receive search engine suggestions.
This behaviour does not seem linked to a specific search provider.
Thank you very much for sharing what you're seeing as well as instructions to reproduce it. Our team is going to investigate what is going on to cause this.

Still not working with Google Waardering 1 van 5 sterren
Still not working with google search, despite this page's features saying it does. It's been months now and still no fix. Useless without Google functionality.
Thank you for the feedback, and unfortunately Google results are unavailable through Disconnect Search at this time, as you've seen. Our developers are investigating a solution that will make Disconnect Search better than ever, and we appreciate your and everyone's patience on this.
An issue noted in November continues to render this app unusable. Waardering 2 van 5 sterren
Upon attempting to search through both the address bar and search bar, and with Disconnect Search enabled as the default search engine in Firefox, the following error occurs:
HTTP Status 404 - /searchTerms/search&source=extension&extension=firefox
type Status report
description The requested resource is not available.
I understand that this review began as a bug report, contra the Firefox's review guidelines. Nevertheless, I wanted my review to credibly indicate that the extension does not function and despite months since its first public bug report, the issue has not been resolved.
Disconnect's search page is still excellent, though it does remove some functionality from engines such as Google (my greatest pet peeve being the inaccessibility of caches in the search returns).
I am running 43.0.4 on OS X 10.11.2, with the following add-ons also enabled (I tested Disconnect Search's functionality both with and without all other add-ons disabled):
Adblock Plus 2.7.1
Perapera Chinese 188.8.131.52
Privacy Badger 1.0.5
While the extension does not function for me in its current state, the inconveniences thus posed are simply an extra click followed by two keystrokes to navigate to search.disconnect.me!
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on this bug, and our developers are still looking into what is causing the extension to sometimes return the error you described above. We know it is taking quite a bit of time to get this fixed, and we really appreciate our users' patience with us on this.
Won't show up on FF 43.0 / ubuntu 12.04 LTS Waardering 2 van 5 sterren
In Firefox 43.0 on ubuntu 12.04 LTS it does not show up under search engines, so I can not use it from the location toolbar and still have to load http://search.disconnect.me/ first before I can search the web in privacy.
Thank you for letting us know about this, and our developers are working on ensuring that our add-on is fully optimized for the changes in Firefox 43.
Doesnt work Waardering 1 van 5 sterren
Shows this error all the time:
Thank you for letting us know about this, and that is not normal behavior for the extension.
We'd love to know more details about this issue if you wouldn't mind emailing our support team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Seems okay. Great pro is the time filter with google, unlike duck search.and all the vids and pics of google Waardering 5 van 5 sterren

Does nothing Waardering 1 van 5 sterren
I like disconnect in general but this add-on does nothing except show up in the installed add-on list.
By default, to use the Search extension, you need to search through the extension itself. You can also turn on the options to search directly through a search engine's website or your address bar by clicking on the extension's icon in your Firefox toolbar and checking the appropriate boxes. When you search though us, you will see a D icon on your search results page.

whose nature some seem to fail to understand: you can't both want to be disconnected whenever you're using Google AND connect to your Google account, duh.
Breaks Google. More trouble than its worth. Waardering 1 van 5 sterren
I liked the idea that it does not let Google or other search engines track your searches, and in that respect, it works just fine.
But in doing so, it breaks a lot of google functionalities. Google Bookmarks does not work. Google Play does not work. I needed to disable this add-on whenever I had to use either of those services.
However, since yesterday, I could no longer login to my Google account at all. That was the last straw for me. I am disabling this add-on till it works seamlessly with Google.
I hope they update it soon.
We're sorry to hear about the trouble that you are encountering, and our developers are working hard to get the Google login issue sorted out.

The connection to the "disconnect.me proxy search uses deprecated security settings (SHA-1 signatures)." So it is NOT as Private as they claim. Why hasn't this been resolved YET? I Do NOT Trust this add-on until the developer fixes my reported issue and the issues that other users have reported. Seems to break many things having to do with Google also. PLEASE FIX THIS ADD-ON DEVELOPER!
Breaks several google features Waardering 1 van 5 sterren
I installed Disconnect, and this add-on snuck itself in. Never installed it myself.
I don't actually know what it was supposed to do, all I know is that several Firefox features started acting wonky. Google search wouldn't accept my hitting the return key to start a search, and then I couldn't log onto any of my accounts. I eventually tracked it down to this add-on. I've disabled it, and everything is working well again.
Since I never actually meant to use this, I can't vouch for how secure or private it may be.
When you install our Disconnect app, the app automatically installs the addon to give you as much protection as we can. I you end up not liking it, you can remove it, like you mentioned.
We recently updated the addon to allow you to use the Return/Enter key to search, and we're sorry for the inconvenience that caused.
We are aware of the Google login issue, and our developers are working on this so we can get it sorted out as soon as we can.

This plugin should enhance security, but in fact is doing quite opposite.
Disconnect-search is regularly uploading plugin settings and usage data, along with unique user ID, browser Agent string and IP address not only to the developers website, but to third parties as well (amazon servers of unknown account and adobe stats servers).
Perfect. Combine with "Keyword Search" Waardering 5 van 5 sterren
Has this been open source in the first place? I'm really happy to see it is now! Install "Keyword Search" and choose "Google" there. Install Disconnect Search. Now you can search whichever engine you choose for Disconnect Search in your address bar and independently choose another engine in the search bar on the right.
Please update the icon.

This is a new staple, for me. Searches are slightly slower, but the added privacy is worth the added wait time.
As other reviewers have noted: there is a setting to have all searches routed through the Disconnect VPN using the URL bar. I might suggest removing the search bar from the toolbar, instead, using the URL bar to perform searches.
The only considerable drawback, for me, is not having the immediacy of rich snippets on the search results page.
I wasn't able to permanently remove the icon from the toolbar using the context menu and choosing "Remove from Toolbar"...it kept adding itself back to the toolbar each time I closed and reopened FireFox...Choosing Customize and dragging the icon from the toolbar seems to have worked.

is there a proof of stopping the ISPs from tracking searches? I don't think this is possible without spamming the ISPs with search results ... which means this addon is only a half of the solved problem :)Deze beoordeling betreft een eerdere versie van de add-on (220.127.116.11-signed.1-signed).

Does exactly what it says it will do. Too often with DuckDuckGo I've wanted time-sensitive webpages. For instance, if I heard something about a professional athlete, I often want news about that athlete. With Disconnect Search, I can search Google and get those news results while still preserving my privacy.
-As other reviewer mentioned, it will not be an option in your search bar. I just took out the search bar and the Disconnect icon and set Disconnect to do all my searches from the address bar.
-When searching from the address bar, there is a noticeable lag. It doesn't take too long, but a couple seconds longer than you would think.
Overall, it's a useful tool and I recommend it.
Yuck! Adds Separate Toolbar Icon Waardering 2 van 5 sterren
After install, Disconnect Search adds a separate toolbar icon to the upper left hand side of the browser instead of adding itself to the Firefox search menu like all of the other search engines do.
This is annoying for two reasons:
1) I don't need another icon crowding and cluttering up my toolbar.
2) The icon in that location requires me to mouse over and click it before searching rather than using the keyboard shortcut (cmd + K) that auto jumps to Firefox's search engine bar. As someone who spends a lot of time in the browser (and, as a result, is constantly battling RSI), that's a dealbreaker.
Uninstalled and went back to "Startpage Search".
Thank you for the suggestion of adding our Search to Firefox's search menu. We are looking into adding this feature in the future.
Our latest version of the addon does allow you to select the options to search directly through your address bar or search engine website, allowing to to remove the addon from your toolbar.
