Used to be great- made Gmail behave the way it did before Google messed it up. Unfortunately, now it is not working properly-- I have multiple Gmail accounts, and this add-on prevents logging in to any more than one account, total. I am disabling the add-on, in hopes that the developer might update the code, but not holding my breath.
No longer working properly Noté 2 sur 5 étoiles
I hate to give this a low review, especially after years of supporting and recommending it, but right now it is not working properly. I have waited some six weeks before posting this, hoping that the developer would make adjustments (as I am not the only person to mention the issues), but the developer's website is down, and clearly nothing is being done. This is regrettable, because as another review says, it would be nice to give this back its five-star status!
The current problems, along with others mentioned, include not being able to edit the subject line as well as not being able to add CC or BCC addresses. And, additionally, it is not possible to type in the search box to hunt for e-mail.
Note that this only happens when one "replies" to a message. If you go into the subject line, delete the subject (you cannot type a new one) and save the message, you can then go to your drafts folder, get the message, and you will be able to use BCC, CC and enter a new subject line. The search box also works at this point.
While clumsy, this is a workable "work-around" for now.
It would appear that these issues are somehow related, therefore, to using "reply" only. I tested it with "forward" and everything works properly. There are also no problems with composing a fresh, new message.
I also disabled the Old Compose add-on as a test, and everything works fine. And, I went to (horrors!) I. E. to try G-Mail and it all works properly there. So, this is something to do with a combination of G-Mail Reply and Old Compose.
I would hope this is a fairly small bug to fix, given it seems centred upon the "reply" function only.
Perhaps the developer has in frustration of not finding the source given up and closed his website. If that is the case, and these reviews are being checked, perhaps this posting will direct the developer to where the problem is.

A couple more bits of information:
the home website for this addon, http://oldcompose.com,
is not available at this time,
and this addon seems to be necessary to make ItsAllText work in Gmail+Firefox 38.
Maybe we need a kickstarter campaign to get the developers' attention to fix this useful tool.

Ooops! Take that back. Not it's NOT working. It works in some situations (e.g. composing a new email, or when you pop a reply into a new window), but not in others (e.g. a simple "reply")Cet utilisateur a une revue précédente sur ce module.
Can't type anymore Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
Five stars for restoring sanity to Gmail for years. Sadly now keystrokes are going to /dev/null when the compose window has focus. How about a github repo where we can submit patches?Cet utilisateur a une revue précédente sur ce module.
Sadly does not work anymore Noté 3 sur 5 étoiles
While this has worked perfectly for years, since 2015-05-13 it is broken (keys don't work with reply or reply to tall) and the developers don't answer mails.
More new glitches Noté 3 sur 5 étoiles
This was an excellent add-on, but it seems it is not being kept up to date. I can confirm what the previous commenters have said about Contacts in FF35+, and the glitch I reported last July is still there.
I have also noticed it causing various other wonky behaviors in FF36, and have taken to enabling it only when I need to compose an email (and even at that only when I feel I really need the old compose ).
I hope the developer will work out these bugs and update this add-on, because it really was a great one that deserves to return to 5-star status.
A welcome extension, with one large bug (FF 35) Noté 3 sur 5 étoiles
I like this one a lot, but it won't let me access my Gmail CONTACTS. I have to disable this extension to see them. (Firefox 35.0.1, as of March 2015). Hopefully this will be fixed soon, in which case it would get 5 stars.
Locks up Compose completely - FF 35.01 Noté 1 sur 5 étoiles
This totally locked up my ability to compose anything in gmail. The active link on the compose button was not there after installing this add-on. All was fine after I removed this app. I was looking for "Fix Compose for Gmail" like on Chrome, but they don't provide it for FF. :(
Issue with multiply accounts Noté 2 sur 5 étoiles
Good idea but when I enabled this plugin the button for switching to another opened gmail account was disappeared.
Plugin version - 2.2.8
Browser - Firefox v.35
Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
Great add-on, but it may be on its way out. This morning, I had an error message at the top of my gmail page saying "This version of Firefox is no longer supported. Please upgrade to asupported browser."
Love it, love it, love it, thank you so much to the developers Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
I am happiest with version 0.1 of the plugin - works absolutely fine for me. This plugin ended months of frustration as the awful new Gmail compose had caused me to constantly send emails to myself by mistake when I hit the reply button after receiving emails sent from my webform. Now with OldCompose I can keep in view who I am replying to and which identity I am sending as.
Boomerang Doesn't Appear Noté 2 sur 5 étoiles
I tried this extension some time ago, but it didn't play well with Boomerang, so I deactivated/deleted it. I read an article about how the new version was written from the ground up to play well with other extensions - including Boomerang. So I installed the latest version - 2.2.8 as I write this. After installing and restarting Firefox 28, I opened a new compose window and everything looked/functioned fine, except there's no Boomerang button for sending later. Unless someone has a solution, it looks like I'll be dumping this version too.
Also, when checking to see the version for the extension, I couldn't find it in the list of Extensions in FF's Add-Ons window. Why? Because it's not named "Old Compose"! It's named "Restore Your Gmail Settings" What's up with that?
Old Compose actual version is going badly, but first 0.1 version is OK ! Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
Something is going badly , many months working fine but today things and icons on the composer appear all mixed up. May be a problem with firefox 29.0.1 last update or changes from Gmail UI. Any idea ?
Edited: Thanks to idno0001 , just re-install the very first 0.1 version ! and our beloved old style clean composer is back !
find it here:
Anyway I encourage to Oldcompose to fix the plugging in order to avoid security issues.
Old Compose WAS working, until firstname.lastname@example.org arrived Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
**Note: 5 star rating is given for the original old compose only.
I've no idea how it happened, but gmail's Old Compose has been working fine for several months, then all of a sudden a few hours ago, an email dropped in from 'email@example.com' and instantly, gmail reverted back to the unwanted new style.
I've tried downloading it from Mozilla's site - it goes through the motions of downloading, but gmail is still stuck in the new format. There is also no 'blue icon' in options to click on.
I'd like to know what was in that email that it screwed up the old compose I'd been using without problems for several months? - because I sense something (typically) suspicious where anything Google is concerned.
Help! Where can I download version 0.1?? Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
Thanks for the info about version 0.1. Do you know where I can download that older version? I can't find anything via Goggle other than the current version. Thanks! (Rating is for the previously functional version.)
Edited on 2014-05-16 to add: Thanks, idno0001, for reminding me about the "complete version history" downloads! I re-installed version 0.8 AND turned off automatic updates. Old Compose now works as it should, once again. Whew!
Version 0.1 works Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
I installed version 0.1 and disabled automatic updates, and it seems to be working fine again. (The 5 star rating is for the old version.)
Edit: the older versions are available at the bottom of the add-on page - click "Version Information" and then "See complete version history".
Since today it does not work anymore Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
Google has - as expected - changed something
Oh thank you thank you thank you Noté 5 sur 5 étoiles
I was at my wits end with the awful scrolling when composing messages (especially replies) in gmail. This add-on makes my life so much better!Cette critique est pour une version précédente du module (0.8.1-signed).
Wants access to your Google Account info (First/Last Name/E-mail Address) / Tracks installs via GA / Obfuscated/Minified Source Noté 2 sur 5 étoiles
● Restores Gmail's Old Compose Window!!! :-) 5 Stars for this part!
● Weird "Are you ready to restore your beautiful classic compose settings?!" when visiting Gmail for 1st time after install.
● If you say Yes to that, a window pops up & you are prompted again, by Google, to give the "App" (this Addon)
access to some of your info (Full Name/E-mail). At which point, you should say Cancel.
███ This Addon DOES NOT need that info to do what it does ███
● Tracking on install: bootstrap.js sends a ping to google-analytics.com/collect, to track installs.
● The source code is Obfuscated (or at least "minified"), hindering analysis of "WTF it's doing".
● The Google Chrome version has already been removed from the Chrome Web Store...wonder why?
(I don't use Google Chrome, but did they remove it for these same reasons?)
Looks like version 0.1 was the best version, without all the Tracking & Obfuscated Source (versions less than 0.5, also didn't have tracking). Also, as far as I can tell, this "works" by hijacking the User Agent sent to Gmail, which is the ONLY thing 0.1 did, before all the extra "cruft" was added.
To Addon Dev: I'm sorry for this bad Review, I actually do like the Old Compose & this Addon does bring it back, but could you explain, why your Addon does all this tracking, without mentioning it on this AMO page?...& why do you NEED to OAuth into my Google Account? If you can explain this, I may change my review. I wanted to rate it 5 stars, before I noticed all this "extra" unnecessary stuff.
