typo in install.rdf Rated 5 out of 5 stars
The xpi file published in http://ftp.oops.org/pub/Windog/Firefox/Extension/rightencoding/rightencoding-0.2.5.xpi doesn't support Thunderbirtd8 because the maxVersion in install.rdf is 8.0.x, which should be of 8.0.*, so thunderbird 8 doesn't recognize itThis review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2.5.1-signed).
Make it work in Firefox 3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Since the original developer no longer develops this plugin, here is the manual method to make it work in firefox 3.
First, download the plugin to local harddisk. Then unzip the xpi file to a new directory (e.g. right_encoding-0.2.2-fx+tb). (Yes, the xpi file is just a renamed a zip file.)
In the unzipped files, there is a file named install.rdf. Open it in a text editor. Find the section under , and change maxVersion to 3.0.0.* . Similar procedure can be applied to thunderbird too.
After editing install.rdf and save it, rezip the right_encoding-0.2.2-fx+tb folder (be careful, don't zip with right_encoding-0.2.2-fx+tb directory, zip all the file just under that directory.
After zipping it, just use Firefox "File->Open File" menu to load the edited plugin. Firefox would install it.
I believe this plugin would work in future versions, unless there will be native support or the encoding menu changes drastically.
