Does exactly what it claims to do and gets me around a recurring annoyance!

Well done sir...

Valuable add-on keeps one from sending those embarrassing e-mails from the wrong account, when replying, forwarding, or creating a new message! Forces user to choose the sender from a list of all defined accounts, whenever any of the above actions are invoked either by mouse or by keyboard shortcut. Options allow user to select which actions and which accounts will prompt for a sender.

Developer is very responsive to support requests. This user had problems which the developer spent time and worked hard to identify--and the problem turned out to be a conflict with another extension due to circumstances that most other users will never see.

Developer also willing to add a feature requested by this user to make available the same capability when "Edit as New" is invoked. When that is complete, my rating will be five stars.

Edit for version 1.6.5 beta on 2012-07-21: As promised, I am increasing my rating to five stars, now that the developer has added the ability to have IC triggered by the Edit As New command! This has been the missing feature/weak-link for me!

great addon, was searching since a while for a solution to choose the identity _prior_ to opening the mail editor and finally found it with this one. Version 1.6 had a little issue which was perfectly solved in 1.6.1. Really quick support! Thank you, Janek!! (ich war mal so frei, meine Bewertung auch für Nicht-Teutonen lesbar zu halten ;)

I absolutley understand frustration when sending e-mail from wrong account. Been there. This add-on is a saver. I like colouring feature so I can see visually which kind of account is used. And developer is very kind to help with issues within a minutes. Superb service!

Identity Chooser - a great choice Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is an excellent add-on! You can choose from all of your identities when you compose, reply, and/or forward. It also will check to make sure you want to use the current id when you send. Setting different colors for each makes your identities easily distinguishable from each other so you are less likely to make errors. Also, I contacted the developer with a small bug and he worked with me to get it fixed in a few days. It doesn't get better than this! --SLS

A must have add-on for the busy office!
My daily work involves sending emails from numerous identities, and forgetting to select the appropriate email was big pain in the b.tt until I found this add-on. With the color coded accounts mistaken identities are thing from the past.
Mozilla should include this add-on in the standard package.
The developer is responsive and open to the users. I contacted him with a small bug, and it was fixed in days.
I strongly recommend this add-on!

Excellent!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very nice and fits the bill perfectly. I have several email accounts, one of which is my home email that I monitor while at work. Thunderbird just does not have enough "defaults" to handle things nicely and I cannot tell you how many email chains I have going to my home email now that are work related. This product does the job in a clean and easy way. If you click on the Send, Reply, Reply/all, or Forward button, you get an instantaneous drop down menu that forces you to pick the correct "from" address to use. You must pick it before you can type any further. It is also color coded which is the icing on the cake. Thanks again. Kevin

I didn't know what it was like.
Now I used is for a little while, I must say, I haven't sent a mail with a wrong address.
Very good.
Just before making a new mail, you are ask from which e-mail account you want to sent.
Very easy to use.

Very usefull Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very simple thing, but often the simple things are the best. I very much like the colour feature, that the frame's colour is determined by the choosen adress. Thanks a lot!

Great Add-On. I have tried many things, but this one works perfect. I have many E-Mail accounts and now I have it 100% under control and do not send mail from the wrong acount anymore. The developer gave extremely good support - even helped me fixing a bug in somebody elses add-on.

I have tried other ways to make sure that the correct identity is used for my emails, but still had problems.
This extension is a fool-proof way to select the correct identity.
Plus, the extension's author is very responsive to email reports.

An excellent and useful addition -
a) slims down reply account choices to those that are relevant
b) enables sorting response identities into a 'sensible' order
and c) prompts selection of the correct one for any reply.
. . . And support from Janek is second to none.

Interesting add-on, but what I'm actually looking for is some clever mechanism/add-on whereby the reminder would only kick in for certain addresses that could be stored in a dedicated list (and otherwise use my default address without reminder).
Any offers?

Very valuable extension! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension is one of the most valuable I ever have seen, especially for professional users.

Besides being embarrasing, sending email using the wrong sender identity can really get you into deep hassle, or even worse, into conflict with law.

For example, when sending email to people using the wrong identity, people will add this wrong identity to their address books and write back to the wrong identity forever when replying your email or even when sending a new one to you.

Regarding law: Here in Germany, we have a bunch of laws which dictate what (company) data must be given in professional written communication, including emails. Breaking this dictate can result in reminder and can get very expensive. Now imagine you are writing a private email, of course without your company's data, but by accident use the company's identity for doing so.

This extension is a real life-saver, and I will use it forever (at least until Thunderbird incorporates the same functionality from stock).

Furthermore, the developer is extremely responsive and friendly, thereby speaking mutiple languages. He had a small problem when using the extension along with Enigmail (the problem did not occur on every system; for example, I did not suffer from it although using both extensions), and we tried to solve together. It has turned out that the problem is at the Enigmail side, and the Enigmail developers have promised to fix it soon.

Thank you very much, Janek!

Wow.

That's pretty much all I can say about this add-on.

As well as two personal emails, I also manage a Scout group email address. Also, I run a home-based business which requires me to do some serious order management and communicate with both my factory and my customers. I use this plugin in conjunction with ThunderBrowse, along with a customer management site/app I wrote.

The fact that I had an issue with the plugin not passing subject lines to the email was a major problem for me. I dropped the developer an email asking if they knew about it, and if they would be able to fix it. He did, and passed me the latest greatest version to make sure it did what I needed it to.

The way I'm set up, this add-on is worth WAY more that $1.99 'Suggested Contribution' to me. I could only spare $10, but I wish it could have been $20, or more. Functional, efficient, clean, and well supported.

Why isn't EVERYTHING on the Internet like this?

The extension works as expected and the author is actively developing it at the time of this review. (speedy and friendly contact by e-mail) Fixes and enhancements are carried out fast. (e.g. Seamonkey is now officially supported, yay! \o/)

The colored representation of the identities when composing a message is really helpful after one one gets used to it and intuitively knows which color should be there at the moment of writing the email. There's some "automechanism" in your brain telling you "There is something wrong", when the borders of the compose window are red instead of green etc. because you chose the wrong identity.
This system of course has it's limits, because you won't be able to differentiate like more than a dozen colors without explicitely thinking about it, but most users won't have that many identities anyway...
(sidenote: the default colors seem to repeat themselves after every 4 identities, but this is no issue as they are freely configurable in the settings)

Most things can be configured the way you like (the colors, which buttons to change, if email-links should be handled too, etc.).
I'm only missing one thing with this extension: an option to get the original split-button-behaviour back so that it integrates into the drop-down-menu of the reply button etc. only and not disabling it's split-behaviour, if desired.

That would make a 4.5 rating from me. I'm deciding for 5 stars after getting a little bit frustrated with abandoned extensions and experiencing this very enthusiastic developer here.
