I wish you would update this to work with the current version if Thunderbird. The other Growl add-ons for Thunderbird are next to useless and the early version of this is all that is needed.

This really needs to be updated Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I saw the Growl NTP addon for Firefox, but I would prefer to use an official addon by the Growl team. Please update this, you'd have the thanks of many faithful and long time Growl and Firefox users!

I seem to recall the previous version (can't remember the version number) used to display which folder the incoming e-mail is going into. I don't see this with the current 1.2 version. Is there a way to modify the contents of the display so that it shows the folder that an e-mail is going into? (P.S. I have a large number of filters, so this would help me a lot.)

Will this support Thunderbird 3? The new TB notifies the user "1 new message from ____" but doesn't have the option to add a preview of the message or at least the subject line... I guess this is a feature request, but it would be really great to see the subject line.

Great idea, but as others said, the functionality is only VERY basic: it has no filtering, so shows a notification for every message in my Junk Mail folder. Also, clicking on the notification does not take you to the displayed e-mail.

This made me wonder if the source code is public -- the website points to growl.info, but I could not find it there.

3 stars because it needs improvement.

Double notifications continue Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I have followed the disable add-on, quit Thunderbird, start TB, enable add-on, quit TB and start TB and it works to stop the double notifications - for a short time. Maybe an hour or so after I've followed the above steps the double notifications are back. Still, this is a decent tool for a feature that really should be built directly into TB for the Mac.

If I have received a lot of email messages while my computer was asleep, when I wake it, this extension *FILLS MY SCREEN* with Growl notifications about the email. There should be a user-definable threshold above which the extension will simply say "You've received 42 new mail messages."

Also, the older extension "Growl New Message Notification" ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/3448 ) looks better because it also lets the user choose the format of the Growl notification.

To stop double notifications, disable the extension, restart Thunderbird; enable the extension, restart Thunderbird. Apparently you need to disable/enable the extension once post installation. But it does reduce the growl notifications to only one per message when you do so. I do like the basic functionality of the extension, but it is a shame that the developers don't seem to have enough interest in the extension to fix that basic problem, or to address some of the suggestions to improve it.

This seems like a really basic beta version, it works fine but it seems to have only the simplest of functionality.

I'm going to echo the sentiments of others here - don't show screen-full after screen-full of notifications on log on - you can't do anything else on your computer until they've all gone. The most recent mails and a summary, maybe for each account, would be best or allow it to be configurable.

Also, why not integrate the notification directly to the folder that the mail was delivered to. I have a lot of filters sorting my mails for multiple accounts but when I click on a notification only Thunderbird is focussed. Why can't it switch to the account and folder and highlight the mail itself? Other apps integrate much better - Adium for instance will switch to the correct tab for the conversation that the notification pertains to.

I like this, but 1) for some reason in TB I get two notifications for each new message and 2) if I haven't opened TB in a while I get 50,000 notifications... would be nice to only get the last X emails, or last Y days.

I really like the functionality, but the fact that it Growls on ham AND spam means that I'm almost to the point of uninstalling it! Please please please could we get a bug fix for this?

Further feature requests would be setting an arbitrary limit (probably 10 or 15?), and if there are more new emails than that, it just tells you "XXX new emails". When I connect in the morning, I get two screenfulls of Growl notifications (both because of so much spam, and because of so much email in general).

I created a Mozilla account just so I can chime in on the junk mail thing.

As honkerdown says, this extension really shouldn't display notifications when there are junk messages. It makes me question why I installed it in the first place.

I give it a 5/5 because I believe this functionality, as raw as it is, does belong in Thunderbird by default. Thanks for working on it!

Great tool + RFE Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is a great tool, announcing incoming messages in Thunderbird.

As a Request for Enhancement or possibly a defect, a Growl message should not be displayed if a message is marked as junk.

Terrific add-on! I'm jonesing for it now that I've made the transition to Firefox 3 (in fact, I very nearly refrained from upgrading until this add-on supported Firefox 3).

Hope an upgrade arrives soon. Thanks to the developers for a terrific product.
