Why was FoxClocks created?

A few winters ago I drove into Namibia from South Africa. No-one at the border mentioned that we might want to change our clocks, so during the next few days we were unaware that we were waking, driving, eating and sleeping an hour before everybody else.

We finally gained that hour, huddled in the car one chilly morning at 4am – though our watches said five – at the locked gates of Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. On the up-side, when the gates opened an hour later, we were the first into the dunes.

Never again! I built FoxClocks partly because knowing the right time isn't always easy (!), and partly because the time zone applications I'd used were clunky and obtrusive. I was, of course, scratching my own itch, and Mozilla provided a great platform on which to do that.

What's next for FoxClocks

I continue to update FoxClocks' time zone database as regions change their time zone legislation (something that happens surprisingly often). Hopefully the user interface is reasonably stable, but I hope to make some changes to the inner workings to handle unusual time zone changes more gracefully. And one day I might re-hash the slightly dated documentation!
