I have attempted to install for at least an hour with no results. Apparently it is getting hung up on the authorization page and will not allow me to sign in to dropbox. I can very easily sign in to dropbox going to their direct webpage so I know it's not a problem with dropbox. This is a great idea, if it would only work

very bad addon with no practical advantage. It uploads the big file to a cloud service AND attaches the big file additionally to the eMail. So the sent EMail will be as big as not using this service, it only produces additional network traffic without any advantage.

Sehr schlechtes Addon, welches keinen praktischen Nutzen hat. Das anzuhängende große File wird ZUSÄTZLICH zu einem Filehoster hochgeladen, aber dennoch der EMail hinzugefügt. Die EMail ist somit genau so groß wie in dem Fall, dass man das Addon nicht benutzt. Es wird aber zusätzlicher Datenverkehr erzeugt, da das File zweimal hochgeladen wird (1x zum EMailserver und 1x zum Filehoster [Dropbox o.ä.]). Somit kein praktischer Nutzen, sondern nur Probleme. Mir erschließt sich kein Vorteil dieses Addons, ich sehe nur Nachteile.

FileLink for Dropbox works very nicely for new files, but has a flaw when an existing filename is used.

If 'file.dat' exists in Dropbox, the new attached file is named 'file(1).dat'. The message in the email still links to the old 'file.dat'.

(I don't know where I should write bug-reports otherwise.)

Finally got it to work with TB 38.6.0 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Took 5 tries, including removing and reactivating it, then establishing it within TB as a Filelink drive. (Many tries.)

One thing to note: do not delete the attachment from the message. Doing so removes the file from Dropbox.

I made this mistake. Thought the problem was Dropbox for Filelink. Just don't delete the files from the attachment pane. The files will show "as if attached" including their original file size. When the message is sent, the files will continue to show as attachments but with 0-bytes file size.

Plugin is from 2012 for TB up to version 24. Still installs on version 38, but does not hook into attachment preferences dialog. I.e. completely useless.

Al final funciona, pero tiene unos pequeños problemas para conseguir que funcione. Os comento como he conseguido hacerlo funcionar.

Como alguna otra valoración indica, Thunderbird se queda esperando eternamente a que responda dropbox. Hay que cancelar y reiniciar thunderbird para que aparezca instalado y funcione. Pero, aparece sin el nombre de dropbox a la hora de seleccionar el servidor de archivos. Hay que añadir una clave en Thunderbird para que aparezca dicho nombre:
Editar -> Preferencias -> Avanzado -> Editor de configuración -> Tendré cuidado...
sobre cualquier nombre del listado, pulsar botón derecho, Nuevo -> Cadena
en el nombre de la cadena pegar:
y en el valor de la cadena escribir:
Reiniciar Thunderbird y ya aparecerá correctamente el nombre de dropbox para seleccionar.
(si ya hubiera definido otro servidor de archivos, ya existirá la cadena:
en ese caso, cambiar account2 por el número que le haya correspondido a dropbox. Para ello escribir dropbox en la ventana superior de búsqueda de forma que aparecerán las variables que tengan dropbox, y sabremos dicho número).
A mi no me ha funcionado la recomendación de timn 2015 05 22 indicando:
open the config editor (Settings, advanced) and set network.cookie.cookieBehavior to 3. Siguió quedándose colgado y sin aparecer el nombre a pesar de haber cambiado dicho valor y reiniciado Thunderbird

Nach der Installation klicke ich auf Filelink und Dropbox verwenden. An keiner Stelle kann ich mich einloggen oder irgendwie sinnvoll die Dropbox verwenden.

I had small issue with authorization though, yet I am not sure what's the culprit, so just the - after I successfully approved TB's access to my Dropbox it looked it all hanged after that - just "busy" icon in filelink window for far far too long. once i killed and restarted TB it appeared authenticated and working fine.

Works nicely, but took a while to setup. You need to make Thunderbird accept cookies to setup a new account (otherwise after entering credentials nothing happens and you get an account with no name in the list of services).

To do so, open the config editor (Settings, advanced) and set network.cookie.cookieBehavior to 3.

This is very useful addon which enables sharing large size files in email attachments by uploading files in drop box and creates download links.

So far I like the way this is *supposed* to work but there's a problem and I don't think it's your add-on, dropbox (and box) are reporting that the file I tried to send as a test is too large. (~500M) the actual error if anyone wants to know is "exceeds the maximum size for Dropbox." (which is the same for Box.)

I only am using 2 of my 10G available and the file I'm testing with is ~500M so we're not actually running out of space.

I am continuing to try and figure out what's wrong here. (I will say that I'm disapointed that there's no logging for the problem. My attempts at adding a filelink doesn't show up in the "Activity" monitor nor the "Error console." when it really should.)

Seems I'm not the first one with this problem either: (Bugzilla issue closed 2012)

I can't use this add-on at all. After installation, at the point where I authorize DropBox with my password, I always get a red error message: "There was a problem completing this request." But the email address and password are perfect and valid for all other DropBox accesses, including FireFox and multiple Android devices. Neither the error message nor Thunderbird installation instructions provide any help. Very disappointing.

Extension is good, and kind of make sense if you attach a file that is not already in your drop box folder.

However, when I attach a file from my drop box folder, it create a Thunderbird folder in my dropbox (great, one more folder ...), and upload the file to it (so now i have 2 copies, even better ...). What is the point? I would expect the extension to simply create a dropbox link to the existing file.

I really hope this developer or another would implement this.
