Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I love this Addon - AutoSlideshow 0.3.4.
My family uses it all the time to display a folder of images in a nice presentation.
This works just as wonderfully for us in FF3.5.2 as in prior FF versions.

This Review is to offer a TIP, and expand on the excellent suggestions of Laurent B, in the hope others will get the usage/satisfaction we have.
Thank you Developers!

1) Download xpi, the Addon install file. Use another browser, click to Download, Save autoslideshow-0.3.4-fx.XPI File.
2) Extract with a zip decompressor. Some zip programs won't recognize the .xpi file extension. Rename the file autoslideshow-0.3.4-fx.zip. Extract. You'll see 2 files and 3 folders.
3) Open install.rdf with notepad.
4) Change "maxVersion" to "3.*"
5) Save. Close.
6) Compress or "Zip up" all (2 files and 3 folders) including the .rdf just edited.
7) Rename the New autoslideshow-0.3.4-fx.zip TO autoslideshow-0.3.4-fx.xpi.
8) Drag new .xpi file into any Firefox window. The familiar install routine auto-starts.
Done! :-)

CLEAP : Can you explain step by step how to edit the .xpi file for FF3.5 ? Thank you in advance.

Makes photo gallery viewing ridiculously easy and fast. Must have!

Update for new FFox would be great but still works with 3.5 -> just edit the xpi file and install; works great.

Doesn't work with AVG? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This used to be a great extension but it stopped working with FF 3.x, I have not tested but I presume it is due to AVG incompatibility? Fix the problem with AVG and this is a 5 star add-on.

If u r wondering why it doesnt work. this might be the reason Rated 4 out of 5 stars

great add-on. but for those of u who dont know, if u r running AVG anti virus. this wont work. took me weeks to found that out.

Funktioniert auch mit Firefox 3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Tolle Erweiterung!

Works GREAT for me?! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have been happily using this add-on to view our burgeoning collection of family pictures. I simply set a book mark to Z:/MyPictures (on our media server), click to the directory I wish to view, and click the little "AutoSlideShow" icon, bottom right.
I must be using this add-on differently than so many of the posters who reported problems. I see a lot of reviews that report problems, but no details about what the problems are?
This thing works fabulously for my purposes. I'm running it on a WinXP SP4, a Win2000 SP4 and a Win MediaCenter SP4, all with FF3.01.
In case you're wondering, I have absolutely zero connection to the developer of this ad-don. I was in an IRC session and one of the helpful techs suggested this as a solution to a Javascript problem I was having. On that recommendation, I installed and used without reading any of the reviews.
(for the past 3-4 years I had a JScript that would auto-index the contents of a directory and onClick would do that and offer up a nice slideshow with controls. Either I "borked" the code or FF3 didn't like the old coding and I began having problems. I am not a coder, so looked to IRC Firefox discussion for either config or code suggestions, where I got the suggestion to try this.)
This is not to counter the other reviewers, but to suggest that this is a very nice add-on in some cases. I am totally happy with the performance/features and it's easy enough to use that my wife and kids do so all the time. I love it! :-)
I hope this is useful for someone out there looking for the funtionality I've enjoyed via this add-on.

- DO NOT DOWNLOAD - NOT Firefox 3 Compatible Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It's a shame that it has come to this but I must warn others not to download AutoSlideshow. Just because of the fact that the green "Add to Firefox" button is active does not mean that it works in Firefox 3.
It does not work at all with Firefox 3.

The developer has not responded to attempts to contact him just to see if he is going to ever bother updating AutoSlideshow. While I hope that he is well, Firefox users are wasting their time by installing AutoSlideshow, restarting Firefox, trying to figure out how AutoSlideshow works just to give up from frustration.

Add-ons like these should be removed and be sent to a non-Firefox 3 compatible category. There are many perfectly good working add-ons in the "Sanbox" considered as "experimental" just sitting waiting to be reviewed yet this one is allowed to continue to be in the public section and waste end user's time.

The developer lists 2 reviews that I have written on AutoSlideshow on his web site and we had a good rapport. It's a shame to lose such a great and popular add-on.

this used to be a highly useful addition to FF but, since FF3, it's totally useless and a waste of time. i'm puzzled why the author ignores all shouts for help for months solid.

Would really love this to be updated for the latest version of FF. This is exactly the the addon I have been looking for.
