My Reviews

Web of Trust - WOT

WoT a misleading waste of time Rated 1 out of 5 stars

WoT is used to "blackball" many political, special interest, cultural, and religious websites with false accusations of malware distribution, spamming, child porn, etc. in the service of opposing religious and political beliefs. Some of the "dangerous" websites are U.S. Government websites tagged by people who hate President Obama, religious websites that are "unchristian", far left or far right websites (Socialist Party, stormfront.org, etc), the "Tea Party", etc. Child porn on political websites? Malware distributed by political fundraising websites? It's just childish.

Even worse, spammers, scammers, and criminals can simply send WoT a payment for a "WoT seal of approval" and regardless how bad they are or how many complaints WoT will still give them a favourable rating!!!

Between the use as a censorship tool, a tool for unethical businesses to attack their competition, and a means to attack the beliefs of others WoT is worse than what it claims to defend against. Since the rating is for sale, it is worthless.

WoT is a total sham and a complete waste of time. I used it for almost a year. The folks at WoT are oblivious to the problems and so conceited they not only refuse to acknowledge and correct the problems, they reply to legitimate concerns with name calling, derision, excuses, attempts at justification ("those political beliefs ARE dangerous" - yeah, one of their moderators said that in their forum!!!) and OFTEN GIVE COMPLAINANT’S WEBSITES BAD RATINGS!!!

This is an extension that you can do without. My rating is ZERO stars, but a rating is required in that field. Why is Zero Stars disallowed? WoT, due to their unresponsiveness, inaccuracy, and conflicts of interest (anyone can BUY a good rating, regardless) deserves Zero Stars, and zero users.

Orbit 3+1

Great for old programmers Rated 5 out of 5 stars

For those of us who helped create the Internet, Seamonkey, Open Source software, etc. who gave our all, our EYES, to the effort in thousands of late night hours this is one of the easiest to read, best laid out, and best thought out themes ever. In over ten years of using it there have only been a handful of new themes to match Orbit's intuitive simplicity and minimalistic good looks. Kudos to the writers, and mainly to the folks who are now keeping it current and working right. Your efforts are really appreciated!
