Kudos! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Version 1.72.1-signed fixed the problem introduced in version 1.71. I think everyone can update now to the latest version. There is no need to prevent automatic updates unless you are more paranoid than I ;) I keep a top score for this very useful extension. I hope people who gave it a low score for the snafu with v 1.71 will now upgrade their rating, I always though this add-on deserves a good score.

Version 1.70 works great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Couldn't get version 1.71 to work. Read the comments, uninstalled 1.71 and installed version 1.70 and all is good.

1.71 is defective Rated 1 out of 5 stars

1.71 doesn't detect mp4 and other video files. 1.70 worked fine. A step back to 1.70, as another reviewer suggested, restored capabilities.

Good, solid addon (excepting Ver. 1.71) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have been using this addon for well over a year and it is mostly reliable, detecting videos from more sites than any other addon I know of. . However, I found as a previous user found - that version 1.71 doesn't detect videos any more (excepting perhaps youtube). So I also rolled back to Version 1.70*.

There are old bugbears with Version 1.70, such as the failure of downloads to show up in Firefox's Downloads list, so you can't check progress and just have to see when the file size "looks right" in whatever location you've saved it. But it does get there, and at a reasonable pace too.

The other annoyance is that you must remember to type out the right file extension when saving the video (.mp4, .flv, etc): the addon does not do this automatically. Again, also a very small quibble.

Overall, a very useful and worthwhile tool.

Great add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

First of all, i want to congratulate you for this great add-on. It works great with most sites (few exceptions were it detects nothing). There is one thing, when downloading to of the same file, the extension changes for the second file, do to the fact that the "(1)" formula is taken at the end of the extension name, witch changes it into a unknown type file (you can delete the "(1)" and it is fixed (as long as it's not the same name as the first one)).

Invaluable Add-on, Downloads & works with DownThemAll Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is the only vid downloader, that I've found, which also integrates with DownThemAll download manager, instead of the default firefox download manager. This allows me to restrict download speeds so it doesn't interrupt Netflix streaming for other members of my house. Note that I sometimes have to go to this addon's preferences and uncheck, then recheck the field about using DownThemAll as the download manager...it's some kind of glitch which ignores the checkmark in that field, but easy to overcome. I'm using version 1.7 of the extension, on Firefox 37.0.2, running on Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.1 64bit. I'm baffled by some of the poor reviews below, because this addon saves me some serious time and aggravation.

Addon removed Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Every time I started up Firefox, this addon annoyingly opened a new tab to its homepage. There was no setting to disable this so I uninstalled it. Furthermore, it keeps reinstalling itself and I cannot find a way to stop it. I guess the only way would be a complete re-installation of Firefox. Also it also does not download embedded video even though they were flash.

Does what it says but.... Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Does what it says but also caused my browser to hang every time I tried to type. This issue was getting super annoying. I tried all normal fixes like disabling Hardware Acceleration and such. Eventually I remembered that the hanging started around the time I installed this add-on. So I disabled it, and bam....no more hanging. Uninstalled now.

Does not support downloading embedded videos.

Flash must be enabled for it to detect on most websites.

Problem: it puts numbers in the file extension! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Thank you for this!

It works well, but when you download more than one video that have the same title, DFV adds a (1), (2), etc. to the file EXTENSION!!! [like "Example.mp4 (1)", "Example.mp4 (2)"].

So I have to remove those numbers in order to be able to open the videos.

It should be "Example (1).mp4", "Example (2).mp4"
