I installed it and liked the idea, but uninstalled it after wasting quite a few hours troubleshooting.

I use a paid proxy service. It does things that Googlesharing does not.
I set up SSH tunnels between my machine and the proxy servers.

A simple tool to check the tunnel configuration and operation of the
proxy server can be found at
www.cotse.com/proxycheck2

Imagine my surprise when I found that my proxy settings in Firefox no longer worked, and that my IP address was being revealed with every click!

After quite a bit of troubleshooting and research, I discovered that the culprit was Googleshare.

Googlshare bypassed the proxy settings in Firefox not just for Google searches, but for ALL web searching. I lost the protection of the proxy because of Googleshare. As soon as I uninstalled it, my proxy started working
again.

I understand that Googleshare provides protection that a simple proxy
does not. Googleshare may be exposing many people who think
they have proxy protection but had it eliminated, without notice, by installing
Googleshare.

I think this is a very serious issue. I can't tell if it is a bug or intentional; in any case I think all Googleshare users should be notified and this behavior at least disclosed, if not modified.

Another issue Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really like this plugin to the point that I've actually set up the GoogleSharing proxy on one of my servers and am using that.

I have found another issue tho, the Google Alerts setup, which uses the url www.google.com, requires authentication but is passed through my GoogleSharing plugin and therefore won't let me login. I can obviously disable the plugin, bit it would be nice to have this handled implicitly

Great tool! only minor issues Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I'm unable to log into google alerts while this plugin is enabled. I believe this is due to the Google alerts being located at a www.google.com address.

Beyond this, I really like the plugin and have setup my own GoogleSharing proxy server to connect to

We need an option to easily disable it. I find it very useful but sometimes when i go to some Google sites i goes in a kind of infinite loop and cant login anymore (like trying to acces my Google Bookmarks), the Greasemonkey was better in this way, that you can disable it in 1 click just like adblock for example.

Thank you for this extension

Fantastic Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This addon works exactly as advertised. User interface to configure proxies is intuitive. Furthermore the addon provides a service which isn't presently covered by any other addon. I highly recommend Mozilla move this addon out of the sandbox and into regular distribution post haste. All said another terrific development job by Moxie.

This works good. Does not break TORButton (That was Apple with a "security update" - update your TOR to the latest experimental.) If you don't like the googlesharing proxy, then set up your own (you can do that with this.)

This should come out of the sandbox. It's aggravating to have to manually look for an update instead of being able to use the automatic update searcher.

I love it, I've put up another proxy on: singe.za.net ports 8080 & 8443

Some bugs in the add-on in Firefox 3.5.7 on OSX 10.6:
* You can't add a new proxy, information can be entered but clicking 'OK' does nothing.
* The OK/Cancel buttons on the add/edit dialog aren't displayed, the window needs to be resised to see them.
* By default firefox won't let you go to the site as the cert is untrusted. It won't even let you accept the risk. You need to either go to https://proxy.googlesharing.net/ and accept the cert there, or view it and export it to add as an authority. The second seems more risky but I'm not sure why the first method works just yet. Some solid advice on this would be useful.

I can confirm bug with Google Translate. This extension would probably be better for somebody who uses Google for few things like search and maps. With gazillion online services Google has, it will be near impossible to provide workable extension that does not break one service or another.

There seems to be a bug in google translate. Apart from that its a pretty good effort. Hope it grows!

Community ? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This add-on is very simple to install and use, and from what I can tell it works.

Why is there no community around GoogleSharing, such as a mailing list ? It would make it easier to report bugs, discuss about the source code, share tips, etc.

Also, ironically, could someone please port this add-on to Chrome?

Works, but for a little nit - cookie-based settings, like e.g. the SafeSearch level on image search, aren't passed on.

Still, that's better than having the Chocolate Factory track all your whereabouts :).

Thanks!

Can anybody confirm that what they are telling is true? And please add extension for 3.6 and more proxy servers.
