Why was Flagfox created?

The Internet is a complex place and Flagfox lets you know where you're actually connecting to. I created a system of Flagfox actions to make it easier to find out even more about a site. A virus check, whois record, or dot on a map is now only a click or two away. You can read a brief history of how Flagfox came to be here. You can read more information on the developer of Flagfox and the developer of Geotool here.

What's next for Flagfox

Flagfox is a single programmer project. It's not a company; it's just me, sitting here on my couch with an old laptop. Every line of code inside Flagfox is my work, which I usually say I do "in my spare time", though it tends to consume large swaths of it. I hope to continue to be able to release monthly IP location database updates and occasional major feature updates as I have done so for the past six years.

You can check up on the current state of Flagfox development on my blog or by following me on Twitter:

I have just recently started accepting contributions towards the development of Flagfox for the first time in the 6 years I've been doing this. I do not receive any revenue from ads on the external actions included in Flagfox, in fact I generally recommend users consider using Adblock Plus. (though adding an exception for Geotool might be worth considering) You can support the continued development of Flagfox by making a small contribution using PayPal via the "Contribute" button near the top of this page, or you can directly donate equipment via Amazon. Some users have requested that I work on a version of Flagfox for Mobile Firefox, and using Amazon's wish list system allows for the possibly of directly sponsoring the equipment I would need rather than only requesting abstract donations of cash.

Flagfox is and will always be free, however my hope is that a generous portion of its user-base is willing to contribute to supporting its continued development into the future.
