Before accidentally finding it, I didn’t know how much I need this add-on! Great idea!

Overrides GMail and other site keyboard shortcuts. Should not.

Tiny and Wonderful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

For everyone saying F6, Ctrl+L or Alt+D does this:

The point is that you just start typing anywhere, and unless an editable element is selected the text is entered in the location bar immediately. Same result, but quicker, smoother and more intuitive. Windows 8 does the same on the start screen.

Ideal for use with Location Bar Enhancer, where the clickable breadcrumb trail makes clicking to enter URLs and tiny bit awkward.
Also, if you use it with InstantFox you can search pretty much any site amazingly quickly by just typing anywhere.
Use with Enter Selects and you can get to pretty much anywhere just by typing and hitting enter.

It even saves your bacon if you start typing and don't notice you've missed the text box you want (am I the only one that does this from time to time? :-). The text gets entered in the Location Bar automatically rather than disappearing into the ether. A quick Ctrl+A, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V and it's back where you want it.

So many improvements to basic functionally in such a small extension.

Better than Simplify Awesome Bar addon in that it doesn't block Fx search links only shortcut (').

@William Roeder, Moonchild:
Ctrl+L doesn't work if you have LessChromeHD installed.

DropDown Menu's Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It "steals" focus from dropdown menu's,
I don't know If it can be fixed without changing the whole add-on code, but it would be nice if you tried.

CTRL+L Rated 1 out of 5 stars

agree with William Roeder
use CTRL+L instead of this add-on.
there's no need for this.

Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great add-on. Just start typing a URL and press enter. No need to remember or perform any kind of key shortcut. Entering a URL can't get any easier than this.

I wish this was Firefox's default behavior.

There is another add-on which performs essentially the same function, but I've noticed that one seems to quit working from time to time requiring me to restart Firefox, this one just works.

the key name is "extensions.AutoFocusUrlbar.excludeChar", and the key value is "[^a-zA-Z0-9]".
