gContactSync 2.0.12 Requires Restart
by Josh Geenen
Synchronizes contacts & groups between Thunderbird or SeaMonkey and Google Contacts. Imports Facebook friends, contacts you follow on Twitter, and more.
About this Add-on
gContactSync can also import your friends on Facebook (including their profile picture) and people you follow on Twitter.
NOTE: Mailing lists are buggy, but gContactSync tries to work around these bugs whenever possible. The fake e-mail addresses nobody...@nowhere.invalid are necessary to prevent bugs in mailing lists and are only stored in Thunderbird (they'll never make it to Google). It is best to drag contacts into the main address book and add them to groups from Google's interface.
If you choose to synchronize all contacts and groups don't try to delete or rename "My Contacts", "Coworkers", "Family", or "Friends" or you may have to 'reset' that address book. Google requires these groups for every account, including Google Apps accounts where you can't see them online.
Tutorial/Demo (work in progress): http://www.pirules.org/addons/gcontactsync/tutorial/intro.php
It makes several modifications and improvements to the Address Book including more fields and types for several fields to more closely match what Google has.
- Thunderbird 2 and up (including 3.x through 49.0)
- Seamonkey 2 and up
- Icedove (Debian-branded Thunderbird)
- Postbox 3.0
You may synchronize one account with several address books, synchronizing an address book with only one group of your choice, and can import contacts from Facebook and Twitter.
If you find a bug or have a question, please let me know about it. See the support information for the details.
Note: Mailing Lists in Thunderbird in Seamonkey are still somewhat buggy, especially when contacts are dragged and dropped into them. They don't work with contacts that don't have e-mail addresses, so gContactSync will add e-mail addresses like email@example.com.
