Fantastic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I am so pleased with this add-on I can hardly put it into words. My News Feed and Timeline load so much faster it's amazing. Being able to block all the recommendation crap and ads makes using Facebook actually enjoyable, as before the add-on there was so much stuff to endure just to be able to keep up with friends and interests I would often get impatient and just close the browser. I can't speak for Macs or other browsers, but if you want to rid your Facebook experience of 95% of the clutter, then get this add-on for your Firefox. You won't regret it.

Almost Great Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It does everything it says it does, and works fantastic! However, it tacks on a tacky "F.B. Purity hid: apps, extra" notification under the status update, and also throws its "F.B. Purity News" page at the top of my "pages" on the left side bar, and makes it irremovable. Haven't found a way to disable either of these. I'm fine with the silly "FBP" logo beside the search bar, that isn't too bad, it's tiny, and provides access to the app (my ideal preference would be to add the logo somewhere near the end of the top FB bar, in the top right corner, out of the way of everything else, but still easily accessible - that would be perfect). But the rest of it is so unnecessary. They may just be small additions that I could ignore, but that's exactly what I installed this app to get rid of: small additions! If FB Purity made itself nearly invisible like AdBlock, I would be in love with it. But now I have to choose between one type of annoyance (Facebook's stupid trending articles) or another (FB Purity's stupid, though admittedly small, additions) - both of which I'd rather do without. 4/5 stars because it works exactly like it says.

Good, but needs a fix Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like this add-on. However I use Ccleaner after each browsing session, and noticed that video some video stories on Facebook...not all...will still autoplay despite having the disable autoplay option checked. If I don't use Ccleaner after browsing with Firefox then it's all good. This one bug needs to be addressed.

If Facebook weren't so darn handy as a social tool, I would have ditched them long ago. I hate the bastards for their invasive snooping and gorilla marketing tactics. Not to mention the fact that they are tightly interlaced with Government spying and corporate control strategies (not that there's ever any real escape from any of that). Anything or anybody who can put a dent in their maniacal and "anti-social" personality type behaviors is a King in my book. Onward brave soldiers and thank you!!

Nice but!!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

A very nice addon BUT it block and make the sync options of Firefox malfunction.
You need to uninstal the addons, to make the sync working!!

The Sync issue is fixed in the latest version of FBP

Good news! The Sync issue is fixed in the latest version of FBP (v9.7.0) which is currently only available from the FB Purity website:

Please update your review, thanks.

The features are just amazing. My only issue is I updated and check-marked the box to disable videos from auto-playing but only that part is not working. Everything else is great!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (9.2.1).

this isnt the ideal place to be reporting bugs

hi, ive received multiple reports that the disable autoplay videos function *is* working, if its still not working for you, can you please contact me via the contact page on the website, so i can get further debugging information from you. or if it is working, please update your review, thanks.

BTW the latest version of FB Purity is now v9.6.0, which is currently only available from the FB Purity website at and the Disable Autoplay functionality is much improved in that version.

Fantastic add-on, essential for FB users. Author updates it frequently on his website and is quick to respond to issues (which are mostly caused by Facebook's constant, annoying changes). Thumbs up and donation-worthy.

Love what it does, but on a Mac it causes the following problem: If you click a link in an e-mail while Firefox is not already running, Firefox opens but only goes to the home page. You have to click the link again to open it. I have disabled FB Purity until this is fixed.** Thanks for the quick reply. I did as you suggested and it seems to work just fine this way.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (8.8.2).

The way to fix this issue currently is to use the Greasemonkey script version of FBP. As it doesn't have that problem. The problem is actually caused by the compiler i use to compile the GM script into the Firefox extension, i cant fix this issue until the person that wrote the compiler updates it to fix the issue.

You can get the Greasmonkey script version of FB Purity at

BTW it is mentioned in the Troubleshooting Guide on the FAQ page at the FBP website: that if you are having problems with the extension, to use the GM Script Please follow the troubleshooting guide when you have any problems with FBP.

Glad you resolved the issue, Please could you update your review score to reflect the fact you have resolved the issue?

Purity does seem to remove the stupid recommendations thing, which has annoyed the hell out of me for a while. I don't care what my friends "like."

My only beef with it is that it is a little intrusive itself. Like I just got a notification from it that someone I just deleted as a friend either deleted me, lost her account, or had maybe been deleted by me. The whole point to installing this was to minimize irritating interruptions, so I wish the "Purity" software team would actually keep things pure and not just try and do the work of Facebook. It's FB's little "features" like that that make us need the addons to start with. There have been a few other Purity interruptions as well. I guess on the whole it removes more noise than it creates, but I do wish they would reconsider adding noise. It kind of defeats the purpose of installing it somewhat.

the deleted friends alerts are optional

You can turn the "Deleted Friends Alerts" off if you dont like them, look for the "Deleted Friend Alerts" option on the FBP options screen. You can customise all FBPs options, unlike Facebook's own options, please update your review, thanks.

Cleans up FB, but strange error Rated 5 out of 5 stars

When the add-on bar is enabled and you are using a persona, having FB Purity enabled means that the add-on bar never actually shows the persona on the add-on bar when the browser is newly opened... for Delight Abstract, anyways, which is the persona I've used for years. It's a shame because I really liked using this add-on, as it minimized FB junk and allowed for clean customization. Unfortunately that error was driving me up the wall and so I have to try and find something else. It seems to work with the other personas I tried, so I really have no clue what's going on. It's only been happening for a month or so, I'm assuming there's a conflicting line of code SOMEWHERE that occurred during an update to this add-on. Anyways, I guess if you aren't using that persona you should be fine.

EDIT: Thank you steeev for the information. Installing the GreaseMonkey script did indeed fix the issue. Restoring from 4/5 to 5/5 stars for this excellent add-on.

great, but wierd bug Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is great, I just found a bug with it though. I tested every extension that I have, I thought it was firefox itself at first, but I can now confirm it does this ONLY when I have f.b. purity enabled. When I close some tabs really fast one after the other, sometimes it'll bug out firefox and cause one or two tabs to stay behind permanently even though I pressed, cmd-w... this is on osx snow leopard by the way, not sure if the same thing happens in windows. But it's weird. Also, I'm curious as to why mozilla wants you to re-write a chuck of code to upload the latest version? What's wrong with that code? Thanks.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (8.2.2).

I cant test on a Mac, as i dont have access to one, but ive not heard any other reports of that behaviour as of yet, it could be caused by a clash with another extension or extensions, so not necessarily an FBP issue per se.As to why mozilla want me to rewrite the extension, its because the extension uses "DOM Mutation Events" to detect when things change on the Facebook page. This method works absolutely fine, but they have decided to "Deprecate" this API. And even though they have no plans to drop it completely as of now, they are still forcing developers to rewrite their code to use the new "DOM MutationObserver" API otherwise they wont allow their extensions on the mozilla addons site.

**Update** BTW i recently found that the Greasemonkey Script compiler that i used to create this add-on can cause side effect issues with other extensions. You should try installing the Greasemonkey script version of FBP instead, and see if this issue goes away for you. I think that should fix it. The GM script version is functionally identical to the add-on version.

FB Purity Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Love this app. Firefox let me know After updating that FB Purity would no longer work on FB. I have installed FB Purity on Safari.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (8.2.2).

There is a version that is compatible with Firefox 22+

Lenah1, there is a working version of FB Purity for Firefox v22+, you just need to install it from the FB Purity website, I cant upload it here, as mozilla say I can't, so you can get the extension from its home on the web, since 2009 instead.
