My Reviews

Statutory

works fine, needs a little TLC :) Rated 4 out of 5 stars

the option "stop all notifications" is misleading - this is understood to mean that the blocked notices are disabled when this option is selected, which is the opposite of what it actually does - better to re-label as "Show notifications for blocked sites" with default of checked

since there are not many sites using WebRTC at this point, i'm not sure about the toast prompts - i think it would be better to show a more standard yellow warning bar at the top of the page like other notifications - also, if you miss the toast, you have to reload the page which is maybe not so ideal

also it needs to expose the whitelist - i can't find where it stores this

Web of Trust - WOT

SPYWARE - DO NOT INSTALL BEFORE READING THEIR "PRIVACY" POLICY Rated 1 out of 5 stars

this extension tracks your web usage

WebFilter Pro - The web content filtering addon!

DO NOT INSTALL BEFORE READING THE "PRIVACY" POLICY Rated 1 out of 5 stars

this add-on collects certain data from its users

if you want a really content blocker, search for uBlock

Menu Editor II

THIS EXTENSION IS OBSOLETE Rated 1 out of 5 stars

hard to believe it is being listed on the "up and coming" list

search for "menu wizard" instead

µBlock

the best content blocker for Firefox, bar none Rated 5 out of 5 stars

i really like this extension - uBlock is much more powerful and efficient than Adblock Plus/Edge/etc.

@MooTaters - you need to read the wiki to learn how to use uB - you'll find the link on the About tab of the config UI

CS Lite Mod

false sense of privacy preservation Rated 2 out of 5 stars

don't mean to pick on this developer in particular, but cookies are only a part -- a small part -- of overall privacy protection

any extension that deals with cookies should also handle local and session storage and probably LSOs as well

Disable clipboard manipulations

needs a white-list Rated 3 out of 5 stars

even though this functionality is built-in, i would like to set it to false globally, then allow on a per-domain basis - need a white-list to do this though

HTTP UserAgent cleaner

nice, needs work Rated 3 out of 5 stars

this ext has a lot of potential, but it there are currently some glaring problems and shortcomings: 1) you cannot set a custom string for the UA, 2) English documentation needs to be improved, 3) you cannot change settings for a site unless you visit it, which causes a problem if you change a global rule and want to change all domain rules as a result, and especially annoying is 4) most of the settings are sometimes reset back to their defaults without any user action that i am aware of

FireFTP

file-type icons not displaying Rated 4 out of 5 stars

since approx. the time i updated to ff 36, the file type icons are not displayed in either the local or remote view until the files in the lists are moused-over
win 7
ff 36.0.1
fftp 2.0.22

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.22).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Shim Storage

in regard to last comment... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

if the ext. relies on dom.storage.enabled being set to false, then it should probably set this upon install and re-check at every start-up

also, if it breaks Extension Defender, i would wonder if it would break other chrome addresses?

Shim Storage

breaks Extension Defender Rated 4 out of 5 stars

no support site and no support email? hmmm...

setting dom.storage.enabled = false breaks the Extension Defender add-on

Preferences Monitor

not happy about bundled 3rd party ext. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

eCleaner should not be included by default - at the very least it should be an optional install

luckily it looks like a benign extension, otherwise i'd really be po'd :)

liking PM though - good work

FireFTP

console warning Rated 4 out of 5 stars

window._content is deprecated. Please use window.content instead. fireftpOverlay.js:119:0

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.22).

BetterStop

console warning Rated 4 out of 5 stars

mutating the [[Prototype]] of an object will cause your code to run very slowly; instead create the object with the correct initial [[Prototype]] value using Object.create preferences.jsm:467:0

OmniSidebar

excellent! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

since the font size for the add-on panel was increased in 1.5.1b2, i have no issues with this add-on

i've used AiOS for a long time and it is also very good, but i much prefer the sidebar switch in Omni since it does not use any space of the document width

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5).

Abduction! - Webpage Screenshots Screen Capture

ADWARE - read their "privacy" policy Rated 1 out of 5 stars

"We make protecting privacy a priority by being clear about what information we collect and how we will use the information to show relevant ads. ..."

Extension Defender

should also warn when viewing add-on page Rated 4 out of 5 stars

should also warn when viewing add-on page on addons.mozilla.org

Policeman

I LOVE YOU MAN! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

a great alternative to the mostly abandoned Request Policy!

great work!
well thought out
fairly easy to use

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.17.2).

NewsFox

i agree with others - i'm starting to like it less as time goes by Rated 3 out of 5 stars

it slows the FF UI even with only 2 threads set and kills it with anything much more over 2

development seems to have all but ceased

after years, there is STILL no option to hide the feed tool-bar and REMEMBER ITS STATE across sessions!

Newsfox is not available in the FF feed subscribe menu on newer version of FF - what's with that?

This user has other reviews of this add-on.

NewsFox

best feed reader for FF, but it doesn't save settings properly Rated 5 out of 5 stars

hands-down the best news reader for firefox - i like everything about it, except that it does really make the browser unresponsive when refreshing, perhaps even more so with more than 2 threads set

the only little niggle i have with it is that, when changing multiple settings, it appears only the first change is saved, so you have to re-enter the options UI for each change

i noticed this particularly when changing the global and group sort options
