Blur

Epic fail Rated 1 out of 5 stars

As others have said, the change from Do Not Track Me to Blur has been less than smooth. First, there are the constant, annoying popups in data fields that have nothing to do with security. Then there's the issue of options not "sticking". Third is the whole issue of Blur demanding personal information from me (email address etc.). I used DNTM to prevent others from amassing my information. Why would I want to give it to Blur? Last is that Blur did not play well with Adblock Plus. Sorry, Blur. You lost and Adblock Plus won.

What was once a simple and effective addon to Firefox has now become cumbersome, inefficient, bloatware demanding information and logging in, and in general wasting my time. Blur represents several steps in the wrong direction.

Modern Toolbar Icons for Firefox

Great addon! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The foolish Mozilla programmers insist upon going with the latest fad in web design instead of sticking with the tried and true principles of visual perception backed by a hundred years of research. This extension works well to bring back important colored visual cues that people need. And even though the developer is no longer updating the extension, it continues to work great in Pale Moon. Extremely valuable addon.

FoxBleed

Could be great Rated 3 out of 5 stars

For people who have the Add-on bar on display continuously, this is a nice add-on. If you're one of the many people, like me, who never use the Add-on bar, it's worthless because you can't see the icon. Suggestion: Create an icon that can be planted on the Navigation or Menu bars.

GlobalFindBar

Very Nice Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very Nice add-on that restores useful functionality. The only quibble I would have is that the "Next" and "Previous" button positions are reversed.

ImTranslator - Google Translator, Dictionary, TTS

IM Translator broke Firefox Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I wasn't aware that developers could censor the reviews. So here goes again ... When I updated to IM Translator 7.7, it broke Firefox. Tabs disappeared, icons didn't work, bookmarks didn't work. I reverted to version 7.5, and all worked OK again.

Looks like I'm not the only one having such problems. See reviews by Lone Wolf and xafemo.

NewsFox

NewsFox icon problems Rated 4 out of 5 stars

After updating Newsfox the other day, clicking the NF icon produced a message about the icon being deprecated; use new icon. So I substituted the new icon for the old, only to discover that the new icon is twice as wide as the old one and takes up twice as much space on the toolbar. WTF!?

Followup: I'm talking about the NewsFox icon in Firefox, not the buttons within NewsFox.

Update: OK. I figured out the problem. At the time I updated, "none" was already selected as the text option for buttons. As already described, updating resulted in a double-width NewsFox icon (the extra width apparently for displaying the number of unread items). I went in to options, changed the button text option to "unread", then changed it back again, and the double-width icon had changed to its normal size. Still, half the time the icon has a blue background, and half the time it doesn't.

ImTranslator - Google Translator, Dictionary, TTS

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Prior to the most recent version, I would have given this add-on a 5 rating. Now, with the ImTranslator Bubble, I have to downgrade it severely. I can't get the freakin' ImTranslator Bubble to stop popping up every time I highlight or click on something on a web page. I've tried unchecking "Show ImTranslator Bubble" in the options, but that does nothing. It's REALLY irritating to have the bubble pop up all the time.

Edit: In reply to the developer, please read the review before you respond to it. I reiterate: I'VE TRIED UNCHECKING "SHOW IM TRANSLATOR BUBBLE" IN THE OPTIONS, BUT THAT DOES NOTHING.

Brief

Meh Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I've been using the NewsFox add-on, but thought I'd give Brief a try. Compared to NewsFox, Brief is more visually appealing, but it has much less functionality. In Brief, there appears to be no way to organize feeds into folders. Also NewsFox has a 3-pane view, which is far superior to Brief's expand-an-entry view, which in effect hides a feed's list of entries beyond the edge of the screen. NewsFox also has far more options for customizing the presentation of feeds. I found nothing in Brief to convince me to switch.

Nav Bar on Title Bar

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I would LOVE to be able to use this addon, but I can't seem to get it to work with the Firefox 3 Theme. Any suggestions?

Greasemonkey

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great add-on. If you can find a way to navigate the unorganized scripts library at http://userscripts.org/, you can find some pretty amazing scripts that will enhance browser functionality. Greasemonkey does slow down FF startup time a bit, but because I added some scripts to modify the Google search results, it speeds up my searching considerably (and reduces the irritation factor).

Bloody Vikings!

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This addon is a good idea, but it seems like way more trouble than it's worth. It seems easier to me to just sign up for a throwaway hotmail account that you always use for site registration. Easier to use, easier to always remember the password.

NewsFox

Pretty good Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Pretty good implementation. One thing I would really like to see is the ability to hide the toolbars (main toolbar + feed toolbar) on a permanent basis, e.g., via options, rather than having to hide them every time I open up NewsFox. Another option I'd like to see is the ability to place separators between feeds in the feedlist. That would work better for me, and take up less real estate, than using groups. It would also be nice to be able to mark individual entries in a feed as unread, for those times when you want to return to reading them later.

In response to developer's comment below:
Geeky workarounds, especially those listed as "unsupported" on the developer's web page, are not satisfactory solutions.

Feed Sidebar

Needs bolding Rated 4 out of 5 stars

OK add-on that would be much more usable if the unread feeds were bolded. As it is now, the distinction between the ordinary lettering and the grayed-out lettering is w-a-y too subtle.

Boox

Nice conceptualization, poor implementation Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like what Boox intends to do with showing RSS feeds in the sidebar, but I'm exasperated by its quirkiness. I repeatedly find false positives - Boox shows that feeds have NOT been read, when they have. Please fix this.

Boox

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really like this add on. It's simple and gets the job done. I'd like it even better if there were an option for a left click on an item to open in a new tab.

LiveClick

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This would be a really nice addon if it worked on the bookmarks when they appear in the sidebar, instead of just on drop-down bookmarks.

Wizz RSS News Reader

If... Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I suppose this could be a useful reader IF it had a couple of enhancements:
- Provide the option to hide feeds that have been read.
- Show individual feeds hierarchically arranged within their respective categories, instead of in a separate pane.
- Provide a way to get rid of the dang toolbar and just use an icon

Feed Sidebar

Inconsistent Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I've been using this addon satisfactorily for about 2 years, but it no longer works. With the latest version (4.1.1) and FF 3.53, only some of the feeds show up in the sidebar. Unfortunately, I can't determine which ones don't appear. It's not entire websites, just some feeds from various websites. Sure hope this gets fixed, otherwise I'll have to find something else so I don't miss RSS updates I need.

Toolbar Buttons

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I added this to replace FirefoxMenuButtons, which does not work with FF3.5. The only buttons I really needed were for bookmarks. Unfortunately, the only only ones available in this addon are for Favorites. I keep looking at the toolbar and wondering what those stupid stars are for, and then I remember that IE uses them for "favorites." (I've only used IE for updating Windows.) Please create bookmark icons that look like bookmarks!
