Liked the older version better Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Like the older versions better. This new version has an annoying habit of loading any video, any size, it has detected, into the download queue which I don't like. Even on websites that don't have videos to view. If there is a way to disable it I haven't found it yet. Also don't like the new look. It doesn't seem as user friendly as before. Uninstalled.

Has been better before Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The new version causes about 10% CPU load. Don't like the new user interface, too big list entries. The download of 1080p videos requires a video transcoder that costs extra. I have used Mp4box so far to mux full-hd video and audio streams from youtube. It's totally free and doesn't require a complete recode with loss of quality. better they would use something like that.

And in the trash it goes Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The new version is buggin you to buy converter every chance it gets. Terrible interface. Uninstalled...

A bit disappointed by the interface, but I noticed I can now download chaptered streaming, leading to more entries in the menu than before, and thus requiring dynamically resizable and bigger pannels as there are more chapters.

Please, make the toolbar button a bit smaller, as the height of the toolbar gets a 4 pixel increase when the button is dragged in.

no longer great, or good but usable Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It used to be able to download images linked to thumbnails, now it cant. Even worse it will download the thumbnails but only one by one. It's one of the greatest downgrades of all the history of software. I hope that it will improve with time and become at least the shadow of what it used to be

The new version 5.0 comes with terrible interface and eats cpu usage. Only one star and removing from FF.

It WAS a great program Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It was a great program... but now.. not so much.
And a horrible interface it got in return.
I used it now and then and even did a tribute a while ago.
And now i think about removing this tool from my Firefox.

Right-click is gone and it got a horrible interface in return.
I loved the old interface.
The new interface is reason for me to remove it from my system. Looks like it is made for tablets, not for desktops.

Terrible, no longer works with DTa. Shocking interface, removed in an instant!

Ich verwende das AddOn seit Jahren. Vor wenigen Tagen öffnete sich in firefox ein neuer Tab mit der ungefähren Meldung "Glückwunsch, Sie haben aktualisiert".
So weit so gut.

A couple of days ago I noticed this AddOn experienced some kind of "update". Since then the Windows 7- System Process "System / NT Kernel & System" is constantly consuming a whopping 40 to 70% of my systems CPU resources. Needless to say this limits the applications benefits significantly.

Surprised and cried Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Why did you kill your extension? This so-called "user interface" is terrible! Where's my old context menu? Why is disabling smart names not working? Sorry, this is something not neccessary. Guess we have to fork from an old version ... (and, btw, wtf are you using a Google forum where we have to register an Google account? Data privacy anywhere?)

POURQUOI PAS un Groupe VDH Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I understand that the code had to be rewritten but... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Edited:
1- Apparently we can download legacy interface. So we can can't argue with that.

2-Some review was saying that videos are being pre-downloaded. I can't deal with that cause 15gb/month bandwidth limit. The response from OP says otherwise.

I guess it's a communication problem..?

#1: so you should be happy with 5.1.0. You can install dev version (english only) from https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/video-downloadhelper-5
#2 "auto-pre-download" ??? we don't have such a thing

New version is great Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I just cannot understand, why most comments are so negative. The handling has been made so much easier, even my girl friend is using it now. She could not handle the previous version. A license has always been needed if you want to convert, so this is nothing new. Somebody must pay the programmer after all. I find it very generous that the old license key can be used with the new version. Not all programms do allow that.

What I would like to see is an easy switch between download modes. I want some videos to be downloaded as mp4, others as mp3 (audio only). It is quite painfull (and hidden!) to change that.

Very good program Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I find this an excellent program, one of 3 that I always install after a fresh firefox install. NoScript and downloadthemall being the other 2.

I read another comment about a user unable to download from vimeo, I just tried it and it worked. I think there are some trolls in the review section, probably from a competing addon.

Its just been updated and its easy to use and powerful.

Doesn't work for me either. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Does VD5 work on any other website than Youtube ? Vimeo and blip for instance are no longer supported.

Flash Video Downloader however does the job.

Response to the dev : I'm not trying to place an ad. Just showing to the other users having troubles that there is a problem which affects several people, just as the others who complained here showed it to me. Is every complainer here a secret advertiser ?

I loved VDH for a long time, and I know and accept that a new version can bring some problems that can't be solved in a few days. But your attitude is annoying.

I tried to use VDH without any other add-on activated, but it didn't help. Now it could come from the way I customized Firefox ; it's hard to say. And I'm not saying satisfied users are lying. But at the end of the day, it's better for me to use another add-on, especially if you decided to do nothing about what I'm complaining of because you assumed I'm a troll.

Well, Vimeo and Blip work for everyone else on VDH5.

Feel free to come to the support forum https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a and share one video page URL on vimeo and/or blip that does not work with VDH5.

Or was it just to place your ad ? That kind of behavior may not help your project. Remember, things written on the Web stay for a while.
