LastPass Password Manager

Disaster Strikes in the Form of LastPass Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It's a disaster. I wrote down the password for lastpass and stored it in a safe place. Unfortunately, we had a fire. The password reminder doesn't help, because the reminder was the location where I had stored the password!

The recovery is based on something stored on the computer in a particular browser, so that's of no use (Remember the fire?)

So, now, Lastpass says that I have to start over with a NEW account. This is insane.

All of my 50 or so passwords are unique, because I take security seriously, but the impossibility of recovering the password in the event of a disaster makes Lastpass useless.

Please note: I had everything sufficiently backed up that the ONLY THING I LOST was access to lastpass. What a disaster. After the fire, I immediately got a new computer, loaded it up and then couldn't access LastPass, so I had no access to bank accounts, insurance policies, and all kinds of other things exactly when I needed them the most.

Sorry, folks, you flubbed the design on this one.

IE View Lite

Great Add-On - Only one feature missing Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This plugin does EXACTLY what I want and does it beautifully, but there's one feature missing:

IE View Lite has the ability to set a website to always open in IE, but this option should be available in the menu rather than having to open the IE View Lite options and paste the url into the "Always open in IE" list.

With that one tweak, this add-on would be perfection.

VERY MINOR additional features that would be nice (in order from most to least important):

1. Buttons for "Open in IE" and "Always Open in IE" in the Add-On Bar.
2. If IE is already open, open in new IE tab instead of new window.
3. Buttons for "Open in IE" and "Always Open in IE" in the Navigation Bar.
4. Add "Open in IE" and "Always Open in IE" to the Tab's context menu.

P. S. I did some testing on my Windows 7 x64 system and it is more efficient than IE View.

Open in IE

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works beautifully for me.

I prefer going to IE rather than using the IE engine within Firefox, so this is great.

I miss one important feature: I'd like for Open in IE to have an option to remember sites I want to always open in IE. Some of the "fancier" IE plug-ins have this option, I don't need or want a bunch of options - Just the ability to remember which sites I always want to open in IE

For now, I'd rather use this plug-in than to install one of the more bloated ones just to get this one feature.

KeeFox

Gave up due to "corrupt download" issue Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I was not able to get past the download corruption problem that is well documented at the KeeFox support forum. I gave KeeFox a rating of 4 simply because I didn't want to penalize it for something that could be my problem.

I'm a technical professional and had no problem following the directions to correct the download corruption problem and also tried a few tricks of my own to no avail. This took a significant amount of time which I didn't have to waste.

I apologize if you think it unfair that I did not submit a support request at the forum, but I decided that since this problem has been going on for a long time (as demonstrated by the posts in the support forum), that I did not want to use a tool that is so fragile and which could again have this problem at any time. Password managers must be secure and reliable above all else.

I doubt that the problem is one that cannot be solved so that users do not have the issue, so I wrote this review in the hope it might spur the developer to fix the problem so that those desiring to use this otherwise excellently rated tool do not give up in frustration as I have done.

Loading Bar

Great & me too Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great add-on. Please add option to change the background color - or, once loaded, simply revert back to white.

Minimize On Start and Close

Great minimize add-on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I am using Windows 7 and yes, this add-on does better than the other minimize add-ons because it works more like Windows 7.

The big thing for me is that most programs with a minimize option allow clicking the X to minimize, as does this add-on. The other Thunderbird minimize icon disables the X - which is annoying because that's different from most other applications on Windows.

New Tab Tools

Perfect: A tool to manage the FIREFPOX NEW TAB PAGE feature Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I really didn't want something heavy duty like Tab King.

This add-on takes advantage of the new New Tab Page feature of Firefox which contains thumbnails of frequently visited sites. PERFECT!

PLEASE don't gunk it up with a lot of features. If you want a lot of features, use one of the other feature-rich tab page add-ons!

I really like the ability to change the number of page thumbnails that appear.

I would like 3 really simple features:

1. An easy way to add an open tab to the tab page WITHOUT having to add it to the bookmarks.

2. A refresh to regenerate the thumbnails. I seem to end up with titles, but no thumbnail quite often for many websites. NOTE: this is a problem with with the Firefox feature and is NOT a bug in the New Tab Tools add-in - which works perfectly!!!

3. A distant third would be a list of the recently displayed sites displayed on the page so that I can add them back -- especially those that I have unpinned by mistake.

Thank you, Geoff, for doing this simple and straight-forward add-in. As I said, please don't try and turn it into one of the heavy duty tab page add-ons. There's a need for something simple with a few well-chosen features.

Custom thumbnail images, search bar stuff, etc. is already provided by the heavier tab page add-ons and are not needed here.

Show My Password

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Every time I change computers or reload, I don't think about being able to see my passwords, but it doesn't take long before I have stored passwords and want to see them.

So, even though I don't think about this plug-in as essential in the beginning, it's the only add-on that I consistently come back to because I can't get along without it.

In other words: this little gem is far more useful than you realize if you've never used it.

Password Reuse Visualizer

Works as advertised, but would like to see all urls & passwords at once Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It looks great in my browser and works perfectly, spacing things out nicely. I'm used to this type of display from the Visual Thesaurus.

I don't care about master password security since no one has access to the computer I use.

However, there are two things that would help tremendously:

1. An option to display all of the urls without having to mouse over them.

2. An option to display all of the passwords, as well.

The reason for this is that in order to truly understand what is going on, I need to see the urls & passwords displayed so that I can see the relationships of the passwords & urls and determine how closely I am actually following my own password regime:

I use a set of unique, reasonably complex, & not guessable by someone who knows me that I reuse based on category: 1 password or variation thereof for blogs, message boards, etc. for which I am strictly a user - This review website.

Logins for websites over which I have management control. (more unique & less reuse)

Logins for websites involving money. (even more unique & even less or no reuse)

SpeedFox

What does SpeedFox do to speedup firefox? Does it have any OPTINS? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I installed speedfox to see what it might do to speed up browsing. The install went fine, but I see no options for speedfox and I have found no documentation about what it actually does or even if it has any options.

I'm interested in speedfox, but for the moment I am uninstalling it until I see information on the techniques it uses to speed up firefox, available options, and how to access them.

I am running Firefox 12 on a Windows 7 s-64 AMD machine if that makes any difference.

I gave SpeedFox a 4 because I didn't want to trash or praise this add-on without understanding more information.

FireTray

Great Tool, Except... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

FireTray is a handy tool. It does what it says it will do and does it well.

Unfortunately, I had to uninstall it because it changed all of the Firefox 3.0.9 window titles on the Windows XP Pro Task Bar to 1 character titles. So, on the task bar "Reviews for FireTray" became "R".

I wondering if this is due to a a conflict with another add-on. I'm mentioning this here because I don't know if it is a bug in FireTray, a conflict with another Add-On, or a bug in another Add-On.

If anyone has seen this, I'd like to know about it.

By the way, I don't see a support section anywhere. The support link goes to a sign-up for a beta testing program.

CrawlerBar

If I could figure out how to use it! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I am interested in what this add-on is supposed to do, but I see no way to use it.

I have uninstalled it because it prevents Firefox from exiting completely and when I restart Firefox, I get an empty button with a Firefox icon and no text in the Windows Task Bar. All context menu items are disabled (minimize, maximize, restore, etc.). Since the close menu item is also disabled, you cannot exit.

Launchy

RE: Fix for the oversize Launchy button in Fx3 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Notes on "Fix for the oversize Launchy button in Fx3"

Not being familiar with Launchy or Stylish - but wanting to use Launchy - it took me a few moments to figure this out:

In David McRitchie's very helpful, "RE: Fix for the oversize Launchy button in Fx3," the "launchy.xml" file HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FIXING THE LAUNCHY ICON. You simply install Stylish and then the style in David's instructions.

Even though the launchy.xml file has nothing to do with fixing the launchy icon, tt turned out to be quite handy since I use HTML-Kit and the launch.xml file has the XML for HTML-Kit!

DNSStuff Toolbar

What other services? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Some here have mentioned other DNS services, but not stated what they are. We'd like to know what you have found to replace DNSStuff.

The toolbar is one of the reasons we subscribed to DNSStuff paid service.

What is your relationship to DNSStuff? I ask because we are looking for another DNS information service because we can no longer use the toolbar.

If you guys wrote this add-in to be nice, thank you. If you are part of DNSStuff, get on the stick and get a Firefox 3 version out.

JSView

My Favorite!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I use this all the time! -- Certainly more than any other developer tool.

Saves the time of searching source for links to css, etc.
