What is it with Mozilla and this addon, this must be the third or fourth time they've broken it. I hope the developer hasn't given up, I use it all the time. This user has 2 previous reviews of this add-on.
Thanks very much for this addon. The Logitech drivers don't work well for me and all I wanted them for anyway was to program the middle button to go back. The problem has been solved now that they're no longer needed.
There are some changes in the latest version 0.4.1 that forced me back to the previous one. The window is automatically minimizing to the taskbar when the download starts. Is there a way to prevent that? Also, pressing the stop button on the right of the download closed the window, even though that new option wasn't checked. I prefer it to stop the download and nothing more. Hopefully these become options only for those who prefer that behavior.
Update: 0.4.2 has fixed everything. Kudos to the developer for the quick response.
Perfect replacement for the lost download window though it's getting annoying that we have to keep installing more and more addons to get these long-used functions back.
Just a note: I see some posters would rather that the window stays open when the download is complete but count me as one who prefers that it closes. I had it set that way in about:config. Hopefully in any future updates the developer adds the ability to configure it to each person's preferences. An option for the window to automatically clear itself or not when the download is complete for example would be nice.
Just discovered Permit Cookies 2. I had the original installed but this has the better icon. Thanks for the update to this very useful addon.
Thanks to the developer for saving the day. I've got just about everything restored back to normal with this addon but when using square classic tabs is it possible to remove the arrows on the Tabbar and just show the tabs?
Update: you were correct, I've been avoiding the tab scrollers with the Custom Tab Width addon and by tweaking its settings the scrollers are gone when using square tabs.
Now that Mozilla has done away with the separate download window in the latest nightlies this addon has become even more of a must. Not to mention it's an accelerator that greatly speeds up the downloads. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.16).
Still one of the best video downloaders available but unfortunately it doesn't integrate well with the DownloadThemAll addon despite the option. It keeps wanting to go back to the built-in DM and that makes it difficult now that Mozilla has done away with the traditional separate download window in the latest nightlies.
Update: a workaround that I found is to paste any youtube url into the address bar and get to the site that way, then DTA usually works with this addon. The problem appears to be when going to youtube by way of a bookmark. Not sure which addon has the bug.
Also, if you want the video to have the full name instead of just "videoplayback" with no extension then change the DTA Renaming Mask to read *name* *text*.*ext*
The developer of this addon deserves a medal, it is that good simply by the fact that it has made youtube usable once again. Two settings have saved the day for now: small video quality and ensure that videos are buffered even if they are paused. If I want higher resolution they can be downloaded otherwise there's no need for them. That default setting and the new buffering is making it impossible to enjoy the videos despite having high speed internet. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.977).
This addon is still going strong in FF 26. Been using it for quite a while and I agree with the previous poster, it remains the easiest and most straightforward way to manage whether sites accept cookies or not.
Installed dwhelper-4.9.18a3 beta but still this video won't download. I tried every possible one:
Still works in the latest nightly changes except it's only good for the first tab, any additional tabs and it's broke. Otherwise excellent addon for the latest release with a lot of useful tweaks.
Update: the new version works good with the latest nightlies.
Broken in the latest Aurora and nightlies. Hope it's still being updated.
Edit: thanks to the developer for making this compatible again with the latest release. In addition to being an extra address bar I use it quite often as a text box for editing links and search phrases. As a result it's become a must have addon.
These are the kind of themes I like, just plain, old-style readable gray.
Hope it gets updated soon for Australis.
Any chance you'll be updating with the dreaded Australis? It's already broke in the latest UX and probably will be when it lands in the next nightly. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (184.108.40.206).
Had to update to 5.0.0 because in the latest nightlies a Titlebar was showing in Full Screen with no way to turn it off. The latest version fixes that but now the minimize/close button has been moved from the Titlebar to the Tabbar in desktop mode. That cuts into other buttons and foxclocks and makes it unusable. Is there an option to put that button back onto the Titlebar otherwise I'll have to disable the Toolbar addon?
Update: the beta restored the button to the Titlebar. Also nice job on adding the new tweak for how far the cursor can go below the toolbar before re-hiding.
This is very useful for zombie mode. Why not override Firefox settings for full screen and allow the autohide of the Menu bar, Addon bar, and Windows Taskbar? That would make an awesome replacement for the Autohide extension that the other developer apparently gave up on.
Update: Yvard is absolutely right, this addon works wonderfully with Autohide by restoring the floating toolbars in full screen that were broken in Firefox 18. It additionally adds zombie mode while maximized without having to change any settings in Autohide so we get the best of both worlds at the same time. I just had to make sure "browser.fullscreen.autohide" in about:config was set to true. Well done.
This one actually works in the latest nightlies, the only one I could find so far. I also like the way it lets you know how much you're downloading based on the various file formats. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.24).
It's broken again in the latest Aurora and nightlies, even after 4.9.12. In fact no video downloaders work right that I can find.
Don't know what the firefox developers are doing except discouraging use of the newer versions.
Edit: after creating a temporary new profile your latest version does appear to work with the new download manager in UX nightly. But with "browser.download.useToolkitUI" set to true it doesn't, the box just pops up briefly then closes. Hope that helps.
Thanks for keeping this wonderful addon going.
One minor problem is that the .3GP files are actually 360p .FLV. I couldn't get them to work in Winamp using FFDShow codecs until the file extension was changed to .flv. The VLC player recognizes the error and fixes it on its own.
