Download Manager Tweak

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I really like it, but unfortunately it seems to stop the download icon on the toolbar from showing remaining download time. Instead it just stays as a static arrow.

While I really like the more powerful download manager this addon gives you I've got used to using the icon to see the progress of background downloads at a glance without taking up any screen space.

I can't really use this addon until it doesn't change the behaviour of the download icon, which is a shame. I'll keep it disabled an hope for an update.

If this issue doesn't bother you I highly recommend it.

Hide Caption Titlebar Plus

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Excellent extension.
Means I can fit in all the UI elements and functionality I want without compromising on browsing space when maximised or usability when windowed.

The only issue I have is that when in full screen mode (either via F11 or full screen HTML5 video) the custom ui elements like the Firefox button or the custom close buttons are not hidden (or in the case of the close buttons, exposed even if they are hidden in the settings). Not a major issue, but kinda annoying especially with video.

If you want something that automatically converts text based on criteria to links or something clever like that there are extensions available.

However, if you want something that simply opens the highlighted text (whatever it is and however it is formatted) in a new tab, as if you'd typed it in the navigation bar then this is for you.

I find this more versatile, flexible and reliable than more complicated solutions that try (and often fail) to interpret sometimes deliberately obfuscated urls.

As mentioned in the review below, being able to use this for text in editable text boxes would be the icing on the cake, but it's still excellent as it is.

FavIcon Reloader

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Ideal if you're reloading bookmarks from a backup, which will mean you have no favicons at all.
A tiny little niche extension that makes my bookmarks folder a more colourful and friendly place to be. Thank you for creating it.

Feedly Notifier

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Really neat. Does exactly what I want it to with a minimum of fuss. Just quietly sits next to my email notifier. Makes Feedly usable as a direct replacement for Google Reader for me.

Couple of ideas though:
- It would be good if you could toggle off the "mark all as read" button. I don't use it and I just know I'm going to hit it by accident on of these days :-)
- If an article could be greyed out for a while (or something) when you click rather than disappear, so you could mark it as unread again if when you look at it and it's something you want to read later.

Download Panel

Update? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I like the new Firefox download manager, but I really miss extra the information this extension used to give me. It would be great if an update could mean the best of both worlds.

Even if the information isn't integrated into the new popup, the same download panel but moved from the old download window to the new "Show All Downloads"/"Library" window would be excellent and very much appreciated.

Auto focus URL bar

Tiny and Wonderful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

For everyone saying F6, Ctrl+L or Alt+D does this:

The point is that you just start typing anywhere, and unless an editable element is selected the text is entered in the location bar immediately. Same result, but quicker, smoother and more intuitive. Windows 8 does the same on the start screen.

Ideal for use with Location Bar Enhancer, where the clickable breadcrumb trail makes clicking to enter URLs and tiny bit awkward.
Also, if you use it with InstantFox you can search pretty much any site amazingly quickly by just typing anywhere.
Use with Enter Selects and you can get to pretty much anywhere just by typing and hitting enter.

It even saves your bacon if you start typing and don't notice you've missed the text box you want (am I the only one that does this from time to time? :-). The text gets entered in the Location Bar automatically rather than disappearing into the ether. A quick Ctrl+A, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V and it's back where you want it.

So many improvements to basic functionally in such a small extension.

Very useful. Find it more reliable and minimal than the "fox/chrome to phone" method.
The only issue would be the resizing of the addon bar, which for a tweaker who is slightly obsessed with maximising screen real-estate makes it pretty much unusable. However, I have managed to create a stylish script that, on my system at least, keeps the icon from changing the default height of the addon bar:

@-moz-document url(chrome://browser/content/browser.xul) {
#linkpush-status-bar {
padding: 1px !important;
height: 20px !important;
margin: 2px -4px 0 -2px !important;

If you use Stylish, go to "write new style">"blank style", paste the above, name it what ever, save.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A tiny extension that makes pretty much any element extractable and resizeable. Especially handy for flash content.
Would like the option of a toolbar button as an alternative to right click, but still easily 5 stars without.

British English Dictionary

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Just editing this negative review saying it doesn't work.
I managed to miss this for an embarrassingly long period of time: If you still get US spellings after installing this dictionary right click any in text box, click, select "English / United Kingdom".
Then enjoy typing colour properly to your hearts content.

Personal Titlebar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Awesome. Spent ages looking for something that did this.
Namely make use of the title bar space, while keeping tabs below and keeping the File/Edit/View/Etc menus.

DictionarySearch (Official Version)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As far as I can tell, the only extension that gives you multiple context search engines without a sub-menu. Plus it works on editable text too.
The only extension I have that was worth forcing compatibility force Firefox 4 rather than finding an alternative. Would love an official update though.

Bookmarks Menu Tool Button

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I'm totally in the habit of quickly adding things I need to look at later to my unsorted bookmarks folder, and using this extension to quickly access them. When it stopped working (in FF4), it totally ruined my work flow. Sooo, time to look for a workaround...

I found (with google, not expertise :-) ), that you can create a new bookmark and set the location as:

It might not work straight away, but move it (???) and it will turn into an unsorted bookmarks folder. You can do the same but on the "Bookmarks Toolbar".
Do this with a blank bookmark title and then drag the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" to the "Navigation Toolbar" (or elsewhere) get something approaching a button (if you don't use the "Bookmarks Toolbar").

Generally seems to work fine, however...

I mostly use play.com and amazon.co.uk (often the best prices/section). It seems that it will compare Play prices to Amazon prices, but not vice versa. I prefer to browse on Amazon, so this means I have to manually check Play prices each time, which kinda defies the point.

Also, I would rather it allowed you to switch off automatic checking and let you just check using the status bar button on demand. I find the automatic checking of each page unnecessary most of the time, and that it slightly slows down browsing.

If the above are not problems for you then this seems like a good tool, and it definitely a good idea. Unfortunately, the way it functions at the moment it isn't for me.

Copy Link Text

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Really handy extension.
However, since the most recent update, unless right click access form controls etc. is disabled, it gives a menu box every time I try to copy text from a search box/form. Just this makes the additional features unusable.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4.1).

Back to Google

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Excellent, use it all the time.
Would be even better though if when searching Google images it ignored the frame and went all the way back to the results.

Unsorted Bookmarks Folder Menu

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Useful/necessary, especially if you use the unsorted bookmarks folder to save stuff you want to look at later rather than just so the links are suggested in the awesome bar.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0).

Bookmarks Menu Tool Button

Read It Later Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Just to reiterate: "Unsorted Bookmarks Button!" :-)
Currently using the unsorted bookmarks star thingy and this to mimic the functionality I actually used in the old version of "Read It Later". Works well and is pleasingly minimalist.

iGoogle Tab Remover

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good add-on, but if you don't need any access to the content in the tabs, creating a rule with adblock+/element hiding helper is a more minimalist approach.
( "google.co.uk##TD#col1" )

Enter Selects

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Ideal time saver if you actually think the awesome bar is a good idea, which I do.
