Why was Web Search Pro created?

The very first release of this extension was called "Movies and Music search", and that was simply all it could do. It had 2 context menu items with which you could search on IMDb or allmusic, a lot has changed since then. First more search engines where added (Yahoo! and MSN), quickly followed by the option to add 1 custom 'free search engine". After that it all evolved quite fast actually, I created where you can select and suggest Search Engines, it currently holds well over 6000! search engines, and new and innovative features like Drag & DropZones and Quick Type Searching where introduced. My most important goal for Web Search Pro was and still is that every feature it has must always be as customizable as possible and a user must always be able to disable each feature completely.

What's next for Web Search Pro

There are currently no real plans for huge new features, just a LOT of small tweaks and fixes. Things like semi-automatic assigning of new search engines to dropzones and I still need to figure out a way to allow users to edit non-private search engines. The complete ToDo list can be viewed on my forum,

Who is Captain Caveman?

So, my real name is Martijn Kooij but I was labeled Captain Caveman about 15 years ago by one of my mates. I started developing Mozilla Add-ons in early 2005, fell in love with it instantly, and have since then produced 10 official extensions. For a living I work at a relatively small software company "Tangram", where I am a software architect.

Follow me on Twitter
