Great and Simple!
it would be a perfect Choice for Web-Developers if it would offer some JS-APIs like Save-Feedback, Filename etc.

Works as advertised. My only wish is that it would use the textarea's id or name attribute as the default file name to Save As.

Good add-on, but i think Autoload .txt file feature will make it better! Hope it will incl in the new version!

Replacement for Lazarus :-) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is just what I need! A lightweight add-on that saves my day on forms and webmails! Now I just accustom myself to create a textfile with Save Text Area before I actually start to write and then just use CTRL+S shortcut regularly. This is absolutely enough for my needs. No bloated Lazarus anymore (239 kb) which pumped up a 50 MB database in my profile folder. 11 kb and tiny text files – perfect!

Check out Lazarus instead...automatic...works without doing anything, until you need it.

(I have no connection other than using this...and I like it best)

Also, check out CopyPaste and CopyPaste Pro. It will change the way you work. It has for me.

I was looking for autosave after couple of big edit losses on a Wiki.

Autosave feature in this extension needs some work. Each text area has to be saved, and autosave turned on after that. I need it to be turned on by default.

For now, I opted for Textarea Backup user script.

Oh, and I'm not sure what "Once you set the options the first time" was referring to. Preferences seem to be unavailable.

I've dumped this extension for "Paste Email Plus" bc it's much more powerful and lets you save more custom text items and easily access them through the context menu.

Perfect! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Does exactly what it says it does. Only one problem. Once you set the options the first time, the option button is disabled, and you can't change anything. That really needs to be fixed! Would have been five stars, but we really ought to be able to change the options to suit practical and changing needs.

Other than that one problem, it's already saved me a ton of lost work, and I've only had it for an hour!

Options? What Options?

Thanks!

About the options button - SaveTextArea does not have an options dialog. That's why the button is disabled. You can get to the few configuration settings that are available via about:config (filter by savetextare), and in most cases you wouldn't need to change any of them anyway

This is a perfect example of what all extensions should be, but so many are not. The developer has identified a need and filled it elegantly. The options to save text or import text appear politely only when a text input area is right-clicked. If you want to save the text you've entered, you don't even need to select it. Just right click anywhere in the text, select the "Save As" option, and the extension automatically creates a Notepad file and asks you where you would like it to be saved. This whole thing really could not have been done any better. I hope that we will be hearing more from this developer.

I have used Save Text Area since switching to Linux over 2 years ago, as I could no longer use the Windows application I previously used. It does what I need it to do. I love it. Thanks. :)

Why does it.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I type in a text area, like normal. Writing paragraphs, so I have to press the Enter key. When I save a file with \"Save Text Area,\" then open the .txt file in Notepad, I get little empty square icons where I pressed Enter.\r\n\r\nHow can I get it to stop doing that?

unix-style line endings

The file is saved with unix-style line endings. Use wordpad or notepad2 and you'll see that the .txt file is fine.
