This was a project that I was throwing in my head for a while, to be honest.
See, the reason I started watching demos was because of the technical challenge involved in them, and lately I started noticing a trend that a lot of people prefer video conversions of demos instead of even bothering to watch the real thing, even when their computer would be good enough to run it. I'm not sure how much of that problem was the lack of convenience coming with downloading and unpacking and running a demo, but I figured a plugin like this could help.
I wasn't sure if it was possible to be honest, but after a little Googling on MDN, it turned out that everything I could need is already in the API, so it was just a matter of plugging it together.
This is more of an idea list than a todo, but generally here's some stuff I thought of:
- Progress bar for the unpacking, if possible?
- Better download GUI so that one can decide to unpack and run a release even though it's off for default.
- Maybe hook in some of the emulators for C64 / Amiga / DOS / etc. stuff? (If that's even possible.)
- Handle redirects (like CSDB) better.
