When I highlight the text on website like
it does NOT create a CR/LF at the end of each paragraph. So when I highlight a few paragraph, this auto copy merges all the paragraph in 1 big paragragh. Totally defeat the purpose of auto copy on more than 1 paragraph
Developer: Is this spyware? Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Developer needs to confirm immediately if this addon is sending out ANY info.

I don't see how this is spying.... but safety first.
I like the idea and the functionality. If this is malicious then the developer should make a fix anytime soon

I pointed out that it spied on users and my review vanished. Typical!
Careful - This addon was spyware at some point Rated 1 out of 5 stars
I had been using this addon for many years as it was very useful. It hadn't been updated in a long time, but it still worked. At some point, it was taken over from the original author and modified to send back the urls of websites I had visited (spyware). Firefox automatically updated my copy to this new version, and I never noticed for months. I came upon a few negative reviews here by accident and decided to look at the code to investigate. It was there unfortunately, and I found a url it had saved as well. I promptly uninstalled it from both Firefox and Thunderbird. Who knows what they did with that data? There are newer versions now which may have 'fixed' this, but I don't want to try them - why bother when trust is gone?
I googled around, and it seems like this is a thing, where a company takes over old or abandoned extensions and adds spyware. The update happened silently, months ago, so I had no chance to review it. Apparently it passed the Mozilla review process as well. I checked every other extension I have installed (time-consuming) and turned off auto-updates for them except the ones I absolutely trust. Now I don't trust anything on this site 100% by default.
All I can suggest is this. Try to review all of your installed extensions (eg, check user reviews here) regularly. Consider turning off auto-update for them and update them manually when you need to (after checking them out). Watch in particular extensions that haven't been updated in a long time by the original author (say over a year), since they might be taken over in the future.
Also: Check out this article. I won't include the url, but google for this: "How companies take advantage of Mozilla’s Addon repository" by Martin Brinkmann, at ghacks.net. It talks about Autocopy specifically.
Works great in Palemoon too Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I'm using it in Palemoon 24.1.2. Works like a charm. Many thanks to the developer. However, I'm a bit concerned after reading some comments about ti being a spyware. Is this suspicion justified?
CNET: "The best Firefox extension: Michael Lidman's AutoCopy" Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I've used this add-on for over five years. It is one of my essential add-ons that I MUST have. It's simple and elegant. I have never had a single problem or concern with it. To quote CNET's reviewer Seth Rosenblatt, "The best Firefox extension: AutoCopy". I know he's talking about this version of Autocopy because I tried installing it from the link in his review and it installed this Autocopy, by Michael Lidman, v.1.0.8. A previous reviewer claims that it's spyware, but Rosenblatt says in his article that this version of Autocopy was developed by MOZILLA! I seriously doubt if Mozilla would develop an extension that was spyware. I think that other reviewer must have ulterior motives. I spoke too soon. Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Since my last comment about this addon, I found out that it's spyware. I feel duped, and I don't like it. I have already removed this addon; I will not be fooled---not if I can prevent it.
RATING OF THIS ADDON: -5 (that is, "five negative marks").
Great, but... Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I don't know what happened but in the latest version it only copies as plain text when copying scripts from autohotkey.com.

How can I set the autocopy context menu to the default firefox context menu? Can this addon save more clipboards?

This add-on is very useful, but...
A question for developer: you say that I can turn off stas from opion panel... but I don't see this opition. Any direction, please?
A question for users: I have vers. 1.0.2 yet and I don't install new version. Do you think that this version too has spyware stats?
Why even have an option to send anonymous info? Rated 1 out of 5 stars
You realize that providing a program that auto-copies text and having an option that allegedly sends anonymous statistics somewhere makes people worried right?
This is no doubt a useful extension but the privacy issues are troubling. I think it would make all of us feel better if you got rid of this statistics gathering option.
About New Version Rated 3 out of 5 stars
thanks for the update, looks like a new group of developers are working on this add-on now. you guys are doing a good job and hope you can keep this add-on updated. I have a problem - how to change the "Search For" option from using Google? How do i use Yahoo search or another search engine.? I have changed my browser default search engine from Google to another search engine. But AutoCopy still uses Google. Please let us know how to make this change.thanks.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.2). This user has a previous review of this add-on.
thank you for noticing that we are working on it :-)
Yes it is true, we want to make this add-on as good as possible.
We are currently uploading few bug fixes but in the next version there should be some variety of default search providers.
We have launched recently a new Add-on called Search it which will allow you to search highlighted texts on the context menu on various providers and you can even add a provider.
It has not been reviewed yet but it will be soon.
One of my favorites Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I love this add-on because it makes copying so much faster, and I do a lot of that. Will be contacting, though, because I have the same problem another reviewer had, in that after the last update, I lose formatting when I just highlight to copy. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.2). This user has a previous review of this add-on.
Excelent Time Saver Rated 5 out of 5 stars
have been using this addon for a long time, very useful, simple and to the point; does what it promises.
my firefox addon was updated (I don't know how) to version 1.0.4, which has a bug: it does not copy the formatting of the text.
I downloaded again version 1.0.2 and it is working fine again!
I don't use Chrome because it does not have this addon!
keep up the good work.

Add send-link in the pop menu Rated 4 out of 5 stars
The add on is excellent. Use everyday. It can be better too if add a "send-link" call in the pop menu. This is very useful for firefox user sending the copied contents to friends. :>This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.2).
