How to install on Firefox 3.0+ (newer)

This add-on is very useful but unfortunately the developer stopped updating it. There for we have to manually update and install it. I have changed the max version compatibility of this add-on in order to install it on Firefox 3.0+.

(I have read the review guideline. Since 2009 people have requested for update but the developer seems to not respond. So we have to do something. The following file is safe and clean.)

How to use this add-on in Firefox 3.0+:

1) Download the following updated add-on file

2) Install it by following this guide

(Firefox 4.0: Add-ons (manager) -> Get Add-ons -> Gear icon (near search bar) -> Install Add-on From File ... (drop down) -> Choose the download add-on file)

3) Restart Firefox.

Most of the add-on features should work.

Tip: For comfortable reading, use gray background color with dark blue text color.

Just installed it this addon. Had to update the max. version in the install RDF file. Seems to work well. Zoom controls work but the buttons for font size don't, but I would think zoom would be all a person would need. Not sure about the other controls. I am using it to change background colors. To up the max version in the RDF file you will need to open this page with Internet Explorer and download Accessibar to your computer. Use a free zip file program like jZip to open the XPI archive, then right-click on the Install.rdf file and open it with notepad. Scroll down to where it says "Firefox" and look for this line: <em:maxVersion>3.0</em:maxVersion>. Change 3.0 to 4.0 and then close Notepad and click yes to save changes. Then jZip will ask you if you want to save archive. Click "Yes". Now go to "Addons" under the Tools menu in Firefox and click where it says "Extensions". Over at the top, right side of the screen there is a gear icon. Click on that and then click on "Install Addon From File". Navigate to wherever you saved the XPI file, install it, restart Firefox and you should be good to go. Hope this was helpful. This addon seems to change the background of every page you go to globally unlike a bookmarklet which only changes the page you are on. I don't exactly like this behavior and I don't see any way to make Accessibar use a webpages original specifed colors (I now see the restore button at the very end of the toolbar). More options for global or page by page changes would be very helpful. Or a way to pause accessibar from making changes. I think the color pallet is too limited. More colors for backgrounds like beige, almond, antique white, and anti-flash white for example would be nice.

Can anyone please tell alternatives to this addon? The quickest solution is to go to VIEW / PAGE STYLE / NO STYLE, but then the page may be even less readable.

I have liked this add-on so much that I have put off upgrading to Firefox 3.5+. I like having control over basic website presence, and like getting away from the bright white themes of so many websites. I can't say much about whether 'read aloud' component works. It didn't seem to on my Vista X64 OS. However, I have the TextAloud plugin (with NeoSpeech Paul 16K voice), and it already does a marvelous job. I must also admit that I didn't see the "restore page" button on the far right immediately. So would recommend this to people who haven't yet updated to 3.5, and I would hope that software writers would update this.

Defective add-on:
I installed this toolbar to force differentiation of color of "visited links" in forum where the default would not. Generally helpful, though more capability than needed. The options for this tool bar stopped working second boot after installation and only remedy was to uninstall.

Careful with this one Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I installed this and it wouldn't change the background color, what I wanted it for. After un-installing it, every web pages was stuck on the Accessibar's altered structure that was somehow left behind, making every web page I used to go to completely different. I was able to do a FEBE restore of Themes (I think that was the one I restored) to get back to normal. I don't recommend this add on. You may not be able to view your usual web pages as you have been accustomed to seeing them after installing.

handy access to the page stile, whit a view simple buttons.

But I have discovered that toggle document colors does the same thing, and even better. I recommend toggle document colors, for changing the site colours, if you need it for avoid the vivid whit screen.

This addon can not use Windows built In speeches nor add on speeches, This is not companionable with NeoSpeech packages or AT&T TrueVoice packages.

When I installed it and tried to turn the reader on it told me that freeTTS was not installed. Rather not use anything else besides my NeoSpeech packages.

Wiki for TTS is 404 and not working Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I downloaded the InstallAccessibarReader_0_1_0.jar file for TTS, but the wiki instructions are 404, so I assumed I needed FreeTTS files when install complained, so I downloaded and installed them. Now install is missing AccessibarReader.jar. What gives? Please restore your wiki on TTS and post where to obtain AccessibarReader.jar. Looking forward to a good TTS experience for reading news to me in the AM while I get ready for the day.
