My only criticism with this addon is the name is not very marketable; it is very difficult to remember. I want this addon to do well as I think it is an excellent lightweight alternative to the Tab Mix Plus bloat, but in order to grow it needs a name that is easy to remember and type in so that it gets more hits from search results.
At least change it to 'Duplicate Tab in Context Menu'!!! - it's so much easier to say!
Simple Duplicate Tab
Quick Duplicate Tab
One-Click Duplicate Tab
Fast Duplicate Tab
Duplicate This Tab
Right-Click Duplicate Tab
Easy Duplicate Tab
Anything that's less of a mouthful will be much easier to remember.
Thank you so much for helping me avoid having to install the bloatware that is Tab Mix Plus purely for duplicating tabs.
Other than this addon, I use Tab Control to open new tabs next to current, with tabs opened in quick succession opened in a left-to-right group (avoids them ending up in reverse order).
(NB: if this addon duplicates the tab at the end of the tab list and you want it next to current, type 'about:config' in the address bar, search for 'browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent' and set it to true. Developer: could you please add this to this addon's options menu - it took me a while to work this out. Thanks!)
(To Paolo P: while this is true, it is not standard behaviour for controlling a single tab - the standard behaviour is to right click to select tab options. It is thus very unintuitive to use Ctrl imo.)
I use this and Tab Control as a way to avoid the bloatware that is Tab Mix Plus.
However, I would much prefer if this addon had the option of just adding a single button to duplicate tab to the context menu, like in every other browser. This would save needing two clicks - I'm sure if you monitored usage people just duplicate the tab 99% of the time, and you are making this twice as complicated as it needs to be for GUI users by requiring two clicks to duplicate a tab. At least make this an option in the settings to simplify this addon for those who only need duplication of tab functionality.
The problem with 'Chroming' the settings menu is that when you get that perfect colour, and then want to compare it to another, you can lose that perfect colour. Please add a back/cancel button to go back to the state before you made the most recent set of changes. This would encourage me to experiment with the interface a lot more, rather than being scared of losing that perfect look you found previously.
EDIT: Thanks! Changed the review score as a result of the developer's reply.
Please maintain support for this addon. It is featured; it must have sufficient visibility to be maintained.
Brilliant idea, excellent execution and an essential addon. Greatly improves the browsing experience.
I do however *still* get an issue where the search bar 'hangs' on Google search (like without this extension installed, but without the ability to click in the box to input text), and I have to right click on the toolbar and select 'Customise...' to get it to spring back to the set of icons.
EDIT: No, it's set for 0ms/instantaneous. Thanks for the reply. I've had this problem for many months. I recently disabled all but my most essential addons and it still happened, right after I re-enabled Adblock Plus, although I think that was just coincidence. It only happens on occasion, maybe once a day, and it is not obvious/easy to isolate the cause, especially since it only happens infrequently and I often only realise it has happened when I do the next search. The only search addon apart from this that I have used previously is 'Add to Search Bar'. I only install that addon when I want to add another search engine, and have not had it installed or disabled for months.
The video picker returns to the left, but it doesn't start playing again (despite the pause symbol being the one displayed). This user has a previous review of this add-on.
I like the 'Force' setting. I would probably spend a few hours a week grappling with excessive tabs if it were not for this addon. Priceless. This user has 4 previous reviews of this add-on.
See 'Quicksaver''s review below and install 'FindBar Tweak' instead. This user has a previous review of this add-on.
Click below for my previous review. Another word of warning: The extension will wreak havok from the moment you install it. There is no setup/enable post install. You just install it and then dice with death as to whether it will work flawlessly or instantaneously mess up all your bookmarks (not to mention immediately on any other device you happen to have connected as well). Since it both syncs both ways and merges both ways, and does so immediately, duplicates are inevitable. The more devices, the worse the problem. Accidentally delete an entire bookmark folder? Apple will automatically sync (and hence delete) this bookmark set immediately from all your devices, with no way to stop it or go back. Doesn't even work well with only one device - still manages to mess things up with reordering folders etc.. The underlying flaw with this addon is that it assumes that the bookmark set in the cloud is the flawless one - which is illogical since the user manages all BUT this set directly. The addon has no customisation menu whatsoever, no options and no user controls. It is horrifically bad. I have installed over 300 addons over the course of 9 years of Firefox use, and this is far and away the worst addon I have ever experienced. Does Apple even have a quality control/testing team for their Windows products???This user has a previous review of this add-on.
This is my first ever one-star review. I was naive enough to think that because it was made by Apple, it couldn't be as broken as people said it was. This addon is a mess. It syncs all devices both ways, duplicating bookmarks (and reduplicating if you disable then enable again), seems to randomly delete and rearrange even legacy bookmarks, and it has no customisation controls. If the bookmarks stored on iCloud get messed up with duplicates etc., there is no way to delete that. If you sort out the bookmarks locally, it will re-push the mess back to your device. In the desire for simplicity, Apple has created an extension that is like black magic. For some it will work like magic - for now. But if something goes wrong or not as you desire, there is no way to correct it. Apple needs to understand that simplicity is great, but you need to hide away some advanced options such as replacing cloud bookmarks with the local set, so that people have a way to manage the bookmark set in the cloud directly. You have been warned. Use at your own risk. I strongly recommend backing up your bookmarks first if you choose to use this addon. Fortunately I did, otherwise this review would have been incredibly and abyssally scathing.
Flawless. Please update for FF26.
Great, but I'm having trouble getting it to work sometimes, e.g. on this video:
ht tp: // ww w. yout ube. com /wat ch? v= 3rZ uB Ae5 NI0
It just plays through once and ends, and goes back to the beginning, but doesn't start again.
Perfectly fine for me. I just wanted a simple, no-hassle addon that does all the proxy stuff for me, and this is it. Sometimes you have to click on the button a few times to find a working server but for the convenience and for free I think it is perfectly fine. Obviously if you have more specific requirements then you have to do all this proxy stuff yourself - this is for people who just want to access stuff unavailable in your country! This user has a previous review of this add-on.
No longer automatically expands the bookmark dialogue in FF v23. I have always found this addon a little slow at loading the bookmark dialogue, and ctrl d does not always work (requiring use of 'add bookmark' from the bookmark menu instead). I have a lot of bookmarks, though, but it is so much faster to load the (small) bookmark dialogue now that this addon is currently not working properly in FF v23.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (17.0.20121128).
At the moment I keep all my backups, but obviously that is not wise long-term. I am reluctant to go for the option that deletes the oldest backups. Sometimes a problem can occur way in the past and only recently become a major issue (for example a localised cororuption that a later update turns into a widespread problem). Therefore it is nice to keep older backups. I was wondering whether an algorithm could be devised that keeps the most recent backups, and also the oldest, but selectively deletes so that the further back in time, the less backups are stored. And then choosing the number of directories to store in total, as there already is the option for. Great extension overall. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (7.1.0).
I'm also only getting the white box on startup. Right click > Quick Search Bar options > OK solves the problem. White box comes back when you restart your computer.
I'm not the right person to help fix the problem though; I use so many addons my Firefox is a veritable glitch-fest!
I also have a weird issue where the search bar icons are squished widthways (ratio 3.5mm tall by 2.5mm wide), but this does not bother me sufficiently to try to fix it and glitches are inevitable when you use dozens of addons.
Overall, still a genius idea for an addon. Brilliant.
I tend to constantly change the tab limit depending on the current situation. A toolbar icon would be a useful shortcut so I do not have to access the addons page and then scroll down and click on options every time in order to change the tab limit.
Otherwise, this addon is essential at helping you to keep your tab count under control. I like the 'Force' option.
It should say like '19 of 34 matches' when you are on the 19th of the 34 matches etc.. It is certainly very useful in its current form, but it would be far more useful if it gave you the number of the results found that is currently highlit.
Exactly what I wanted. Mozilla used to let people undo changes when they upgrade; their recent forced 'improvements' concern me. I also wish they would stop copying Chrome; what is the point if the two browsers are identical!
