v1.6.19 broken by firefox 18.0(.1) enhanced HTTPS security fix Rated 4 out of 5 stars

if you upgrade to Firefox 18.0.1 and enable the optional HTTPS security enhancements mentioned in the 18.0.1 release notes, then FireGestures will not recognize ANY GESTURE at all and the options in the advanced configuration window will be blank.

The only way to get your gestures back is to disable the enhanced security (reset the two preferences below to the current, potentially insecure defaults = "false"), and then restart the browser.

item from the release notes: Disable insecure content loading on HTTPS pages (bugzilla #62178) (btw, that's a 12-year old bug ticket, recently fixed)

in about:config,
security.mixed_content.block_active_content (default FALSE) -> TRUE
security.mixed_content.block_display_content (default FALSE) -> TRUE

setting these to the new recommended secure value, TRUE, will break FireGestures at the next browser (re)start.

Currently for FF 18.0.1 the default value for those prefs is still "FALSE" but from what i read on the ticket, the plan is that in a future firefox version the defaults for these will be "TRUE".

Easy YouTube Video Downloader

Misleading short description! (by omission) Rated 1 out of 5 stars

MISLEADING description in the "About this add-on" box: you ONLY get 128kbps mp3 files IF you install the ADWARE binary .EXE component from their site, a component that can NOT be controlled by the Mozilla quality audit process since they can change the binary file being served at any second.

the add-on loads a page starting with
hxxp:// (and some Unique ID tag here)
immediately after the install...

clicking on the option that can do 128kbps mp3s redirects to:
which in turn downloads
from hxxp://
(changed all http to hxxp to avoid links being active)

If you don't want to use their adware-sponsored version you can only get 64kbps MP3s and the service is not as fast (on their page they advertise the 128kbps service with adware as being 30x faster).
I found about the adware only after installing the add-on, i was prompted to install that additional ".exe" plugin downloaded from their site as a condition to having full functionality.

They currently DO NOT disclose the adware component it in the short summary (the "about this add-on" box does not say anything about it), they only mention it in passing in their so-called "privacy" policy, but that's so full of legalese BS most people just skip over it.

This is what their "privacy" policy says now about this:

Delicious Bookmarks

v2.0.95 and browser freezes Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I usually love this extension, but today they did something stupid to the API or on their site that causes the browser to freeze (using FF301 on WinXP here).

I had to DELETE my entire profile folder just to be sure, and then i installed the extensions one by one, browsing for 10..15 minutes in between each one.

After installing this and syncing the bookmarks, the browser starts to freeze after about 5...15 minutes of use (varies widely.. i think it happens when i switch tabs fast, between sites i've bookmarked on delicious and those i didn't)

The browser becomes non-responsive, starts sucking up 99% CPU and i have to kill its process.
When restarting after such a kill it has a habit of freezing during the first minute.

I restarted FF in safe mode, disabled the delicious extension and the freezes are gone.

and btw, it's not a memory problem, i ran memtest86+ v2.0.1 for an entire night this week, and not a single problem appeared during the 9-hour long memory test. I have a habit of doing this every 3...4 months or so, just in case.
