Sticking to google s3 translator Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Tried 3 pages and and email and didn't work. Google s3 worked for them instead. Deleting.

Great when it works, but usually it doesn't Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I love this app when it works, but most of the time it doesn't work. When I originally installed it, I was really happy with it, but in the last several months I'm continually met with nothing but a box that opens with the original text and an unresponsive button to translate that text to English.

I do not have the time or geek-skill to spend "engaging the developer" and hunting for answers on github. Either an app works or it doesn't. Those that work well for me and make my tasks go more smoothly I am happy to pay for, but those that frequently bog me down searching for answers and alternatives do not warrant payment or even remaining on the average person's devices. Our time and efforts matter too. Hence, disappointing as it is to still not have an alternative to Google's translation (and I was so pleased at first when I thought I'd found one as good or better than Google's so I could dump one more Google feature!), this app is just too frustrating to keep dealing with so it is coming off my machine today.

To many actions to translate a bit of text.. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

How this could be missed? After selecting a text, I have to click TRICE and still wait for text to be translated. Will you explain me WHY after selecting original text, I have to open a pop-up where the SAME original text displayed, and then I have to click AGAIN else to get this part translated, waiting it to be done... USELESS, because of SINGLE extra click. I like to see this plugin opening instantly a TRANSLATED text to my chosen default language.

Google Translate and China...don't go together Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As I suspected. It doesn't work in China without a vpn (including selected text translation). As soon as I loaded my vpn, it works fast.
I like the voice feature also.

Github & Google? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I can't give 'now' a good score to your product, because your not really honest about it in your head-description. After searching all translate add-ons I came to your add-on and found links about Github & the Babbelzilla project and nowhere the name of Google. So my my first impression was positive without using the add-on.

But I became curious when I read the comments and specifically that from of @cegasdg. Of course I became disappointed when I read your obscure answer... because is your add-on not working without the help of Google translation (?), than is your add-on the same as the other Translate add-ons.... And IMO if I choose for it, it's better to take the original Google Translator than your add-on.
The Google company have taken over almost the whole 'open source' industry on the web, after their voluntary cooperation with the US-intelligences.
Not only China (proxy-scandal) but in the whole world is since November 2013 a 'silence' boycott started against all (social) companies/organisations and their products, who became hot news via Edward Snowden publicities.
I don't tell you this to follow the same tactics as others, but in the Firefox browser it becomes 'with the day' more difficult not to work with Google products or not to get Google cookies in the computer. Per example: almost every Firefox add-on developer have a 'free' Google website with the possibility to collect advertising, e.s.o., e.s.o. In Europe the Google company have almost 95% of the market and it's really suffocating.
I work with Firefox almost since the start and it was like in 'heaven' to work in a free 'open source' browser than the software in the same tight vein.
Google is changing the software of his competition and their users, they get no chance to survive under their sneaky behaviour and most computer/software users/developers sleeping further.... without knowing.
This is no personal attack to your product, but it's a pity that there is no difference with other 'translate' add-ons and for me it's no base to search that difference.

For sure I would love working with your add-on if it can work without the interference of Google Translation (API) and for sure your add-on should get an high ranking if it would well-known by other users. Financial support shall be better.
The text in this message is translated by my own dictionaries, I did my best for it to get it readable; sorry if there are too many faults, but please read between the lines if you don't understand what I want to tell with this message.

Submit a pull request then.

As I mentioned earlier, the TEXT translation functionality does not use Google's translation API in anyway - I developed my own translation API which is what the text translation functionality uses, however I cannot use that for the webpage translation because it cannot handle the scale of words and pages translated. I host that service for free, if I wanted to be able to support the scale of translations required for entire webpages to be translated I would need to page thousands every month to support this free service, which I cannot afford to do, nor do I wish to.

All Google's translation service is used for in this addon is the webpage translation (which to me is not the primary function, the text translation is), and it all it does is open a new window pointing to (its very simple)

So given that this is an open-source project, how about you change it? submit a pull request removing the functionality that relies on Google and replace with a new service that you deem trustworthy, and I'll review it and see if it is worth merging, or you could fork the project and do whatever you want.

Instead of complaining, change it.

You should have mentioned it works with google translator Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Thank you for writing this application. But could you please mention it only works with google translator? I cannot access google in China, but I would like to translate Chinese websites and sentences!

Only the webpage translation uses Google translate - the text translation should work just fine.

This is an AMAZING add-on to firefox! Every time I see a website in a different language (which happens pretty often), I use the translator and every thing is better! It works well!

Change the engine, folks! :-) Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Superb interface, best amongst other addons.

And quite a dumb translation engine, which becomes numb very often.

In response to Ava Odoemena's review of the Translator Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The add on is pretty self explanatory. There is a box on your toolbar and you just click it and it will auto detect the language. If you go to your Firefox add on's it has an options tab to adjust it to auto detect and prompt you automatically to translate, or you can click on the link for the developer right in that same column and there is how to info. I am not berating you in any way, just explaining how easy it can be for you.

answer to this comment: " How does it work? If at all... " Rated 5 out of 5 stars

You are probably a naturally impatient person. Rating a free plugin that has been taken days to create should done with some respect. Did you pay for this? I find this add-on very intelligent done. So the user should show a bit intelligence too.

How does it work? If at all... Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have a time limit for AddOns, I give the AddOn 5 Minutes, if in this time I can't figure out how it works, how I get it to do what I want, it is deleted. I didn't find any reference anywhere how text is actually translated, I looked on the AddOn page, I looked on the commentaries, I looked on the code-page. Nothing... Clearly, this coder doesn't want us to use his work..

Great – with a very minor problem Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great extension, and with current version of browser and extension, I like the fact it respects fairly well the presentation of the original page.

I am using it on Windows 7 French with Firefox 27 French, typically asking for translations to English (Google usually does a better job than if I ask for translations to French). I see a very minor problem with the dialog box that appears. It says (all in French):

Traduire la page
Du : auto-détection
En : anglais

( ) Le faire

Annuler Traduire.

The top is OK, although I would prefer to replace "En" by "Vers" (litterally "toward" or "to"). But the problem comes with the checkmark and its description "Le faire automatiquement" (do it automatically). That description takes two lines and is double-spaced, with the result that the lower third of the buttons are chopped off by the dialog box.

Would it be possible to either:
– widen the translation box so "Le faire automatiquement (do it automatically)" would appear on one line, or
– increase the height of the translation box so buttons are not cut.

Большое спасибо автору! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Не смотря на небольшое число пользователей решил опробовать. Теперь оно осталось в браузере. Не встречал пока чего-либо не переводимого. Если нельзя перевести страницу, переведёт нужный текст. Для правильной работы поройтесь в настройках. Из недостатков: непривычно закрывать всплывающее окно клавишей esc, нельзя изменить его местоположение. Но всё это дело привычки. Считаю лучшим дополнением в своём классе!

One-click translation option doesn't work. I enabled it, but when I click to translate, the popup doesn't automatically translate.

One-click translation

One-click translation is working as expected, the problem is that One-click translations is a feature intended for web-page translations only (not text translations!). I've changed the name of that setting (as of 2.0.2) to make this more clear.

Also, I wish people would post things like this on the bug tracker rather than dropping the addon's rating without engaging the developer.

Appeals to my lazy nature Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If I see a phrase online that I want to translate, this addon saves me the step of having to go to google translate. I'm all about avoiding unnecessary steps.
