Good for heavy duty Firefox users Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Sometime Firefox RAM is just way to high and you need to restart before it crashes. I have several dozen add-ons active in Firefox, so Firefox is bound to get memory leaks from unexpected interactions of your add-ons. Even if you don't use many add-ons just try scrolling through Facebook.com, tumblr.com, or Google image search will chew up RAM into the Gigabytes and most likely crash before you get to the end of a huge timeline. These "infinite" pages cause more and more RAM to get locked up in Firefox, so Firefox and other apps performance tends to suffer especially on machines with 2GB RAM or lower. I find that if I let it get anywhere nears 1.5GB Firefox will crash. I think it is probably when Virtual Memory size goes over 2GB that seem to be the problem. This add on lets you see how big (approximately) your "in memory usage" (RAM) has reached. If you see it getting closer to the point of crashing (may vary but you will figure it out what your threshold value is) you can just click the memory usage value (Ticker in bottom right corner of add-on bar) and do a restart. I also have set "Don't load tabs until selected" (found in tab mix plus) so restart will take me back to around 300MB RAM use.
Some reviews indicate that restart is occurring unexpectedly, so just to clarify the "Memory Restart Preferences", I set "Firefox memory threshold" to "1500". That setting is when the color changes, and when a auto-restart will occur. When you first install don't use the auto restart just get familiar with how much RAM Firefox is sucking up and tune the threshold for yourself. When you figure out what value you want to use, find a site that makes an alert - http://i.imgur.com/WUJwDqU.png (e.g. Mibbit.com has a "Confirm navigate away" option or most posting/web mail editors will do this) when you close your browser. Keep that page open and use Firefox for a few days, so you can see when an auto restart is triggered as http://i.imgur.com/WUJwDqU.png will pop up when Firefox tries to shutdown. This can be useful if your in them middle of writing something long and you have not saved it and need to abort the restart for a few minutes to cleanup.
If you use Firefox heavily and you notice it using huge amount of RAM and want to do restarts before it crashes this is a useful add-on to help you.
ps. Noticed "[13:56:16.969] TypeError: strings.getString is not a function @ chrome://memoryrestart/content/memoryrestart.js:128" occurring 2 per minute on console log - reported it to developer.
Please add check for firefox IDLE before restarting Rated 4 out of 5 stars
This addon is extremely useful for automatically restarting firefox for me when the ram gets out of hand. The only problem I've encountered is that sometimes firefox restarts while I'm using it! This can be easily avoided by checking that it has been idle for at least a few minutes before initiating a restart.
Otherwise, this is really great software. Thanks so much.
Refresh not working correctly Rated 2 out of 5 stars
Memory usage refresh not working correctly in FF34. The button stop updating memory usage after some time. I have a green button with 877Mb usage in one FF window. I have a red button with 1129Mb memory usage in new window when I opening it. Two windows, two different values, one firefox...
This is a bug.
Refresh interval = 60 sec.
Best Firefox add on ever! Rated 5 out of 5 stars
My computers only have two to three GB of RAM. This is the perfect solution to Firefox RAM buildup when multiple windows are left open and you don't have a late model computer with six or eight GB of RAM! I wish this one came with initial Firefox installs!

The mechanism ought to be a built in function of Firefox!!
It is nice memory-management, which can be crucial for all applications running on your desktop when one does a lot with the pc and when there is cumulative leaking of memory. Must have..! Very important.
Wonderfull! Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Extremely useful if your a multi-tasker with 10 + tabs going. or more. (I research a lot of things and read the pages one by one.) so having this addon auto restart after FF uses up so many mega bites is great, no more browser lock ups :)
Update: If your multitasking with 10 tabs or more might want to shut of the auto restart option as it will be closing your FF every few mins lol.

Simple and great Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Its simple and it works! Firefox for me gets slower and slower .. this addon reveals when memory usage is getting excessive. A simple click of the red button and memory usage returns to sane leves. User browsing experience reverts from suicidal to pleasant. This addon makes the world of Forefox a tolerable place. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.17).

Great addon, recent updates though it has stopped working. Will turn red once it reaches threshold but does not restart the browser anymore. Any ideas??This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.16).
Does not monitor Virtual Memory? Rated 3 out of 5 stars
I have just started using this, so I cannot really give a fully informed review, but I did notice that it does not monitor virtual memory. I am running on Win7 32-bit with 4G of RAM. RAM usage is not a problem, but if Firefox tries to use more that 2G of virtual space it crashes. Adding virtual memory use would be a big plus. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.16).

hmmm...something's not right... Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Dunno if it's an extension conflict or what...but while playing a lumosity game, it would completely stop the game for countable seconds at a time. I thought, at first, maybe it was a problem with my hardware...but nothing corresponded to what I was seeing in the event log. So I opened up a new profile with no extensions added and was able to play the same game without any pauses, stutterings or halts. Came back to the original profile, turned this off, and I am a happy camper again. Take from this what you will. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.15).
Hi angier. We'll investigate. Thanks for letting us know.

Suggestion Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I think it would be nice to have possibility to control not Firefox-consumed memory but free memory of system...This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.14).
Reports incorrect settings Rated 1 out of 5 stars
The CPU issue appears to be fixed but now the reported memory consumption is completely wrong.
I have 2 FF windows open, one shows 707MB, the other 706MB. about:memory reports 1277MB private. Process explorer shows 1319.
